Haha, yea it's amazing what a couple hours of North/south travel will do. It was cold though. We had 40-50 mph gusts on opener. Sunday calmed down but still cold. Finally. I was tired of the November summer weather. And thanks, he wasn't a mature deer but had to make a quick decision as he was running from a neighboring property drive. I'm happy.

My sons first year Gun hunting this year but he has been bow hunting with me the last few years with Bow in hand. we started opener off this year at the deer camp at our family cabin on Elbow Lake and we saw a few deer and passed on them seen we did not see any real nice bucks and we hunted the 2nd weekend at home and my son shot this button buck Saturday night at 90 yards and then Sunday morning he shot this nice 8 pointer cruising between wood lots. I am so proud of him he shot the 8 pointer at 226 yards and made a perfect shot with the 30-30 through both lungs and both bucks dropped in their tracks. best deer hunt i have ever had been with my son watching him shoot both deer i am so happy :-) :-)

My oldest and I got a couple around 4pm opening Saturday. Opposite sides of the 40 but shot within minutes of each other. 

 

Also cool to see the before/after rut changes in the buck. Trail cam photo from September courtesy of my neighbor.

Got him done for son in law. 156 gross. 143 net.  Cool rack with the points below the brows.

No. Just wiped a little blood off the in a couple spots.

Mine from this year was a lot lighter in color. Older buck heading down hill we figured. Biggest body I have ever taken.

not sure if the picture does it or not but I've seen a few racks that seem darker then normal!!!!!!!

probably didn’t suntan much. I have some the same tone. One darker. And some lighter in my collection.

Age,Genetics, and what they rub on play  huge factors in horn color. But habitat plays a big role also.Canada has always been known to throw dark racks because they live in the big timber and aren't out in open much at all. Basically to some extent like Eyeguy said there horns don't see as much direct sunlight.

Out checking lake landings for some ice fishing and found a new Bow spot for next fall!  7 of them all in a line coming down a dirt road. And 3 more eating on a bare hill side.

monday nigth i was driving back from St CLOUD at dusk, right by Rockville there were 6-7 deer walking 2 abreast down the grant in aid snowmobile that runs in the ditch!!!!! looked pretty cool. bet there plain tired of the deep snow!!!!!!

Found my first ever Buck kill rack.

 

Thinking back now, the word "legal" might not have been the best choice of wording?

It could have given up my massive poaching ring!
