Congrats to Elwood Monster Catfish!

So often we as internet users see big fish pics and hear stories about a rare catch. No doubt we’ve all been victims of the emails of The Rainy Lake Monster Pike, The Lake of the Woods Monster Sturgeon, catfish eats beach ball, muskie eats little girl, etc, etc.

Well, it’s not very often that you get to share in a big fish story by one of our own staff here at HSO.

Elwood boated a monster Catfish yesterday that is right up there with the biggest I’ve seen or heard of since I’ve been involved with this addiction called Flathead Catfishing. While it may not be the biggest ever, or even this year, it’s one of those once in a lifetime fish that takes thousands and thousands of hours to appreciate. Anyone can go out one day and happen upon a beast (just take a look at the record books), but he has no doubt put in his time for this one

A conservative measurement of 50”x31.5” and an estimated weight of 60lbs, give or take a couple (my opinion is on the high side). The record is 70lbs, so for all you walleye guys and gals, this would be like catching a 15-16lb fish.

And what’s better yet? Another staff member (Shack) got the pleasure of being there to witness it!

Congrats Gordie and you have fueled my fire once again in that quest for a 70 pounder!! Like I needed that anyways. grin

Congrates Elwood! It was a fish that needed to find its way to you. wink

Biggest Flathead I have seen with my own eyes. Magazine quality fish. grin

Good times! smile

I do honestly think the real hero of yesterday was me though. grin

No mention of "my"---- 3 fingered (my right thumb, index, middle) end of the handle grip, tippy toed, Frabill BIG GAME sized net, rushing/raging water, right at the surface (the most nervous time), hook barely in the fish, dive and save, heroic, brave & extreme landing job I threw down. winkgrin

Awesome fish Gordie!

Gordie gave you a lot of credit Shack for your Extreme Netmen Skills when I talked to him.

Thanks everyone and the credit does go out to my extreme netman Shack I couldnt of picked a better partner for the day, heck he even helped pick out the spot.I do remember something you said on the way to the river that gets me laughing when I think about it thou, you said its funny how when you say you are going to leave a spot for another it puts a hex on that spot and no more fish but it happened that LFC caught a fish after you said you should find a new spot and I caught this one right after you said we should check out a new spot... and the clicker started screaming.. great time, great laughs and it was a great fish and its one memory that will last the rest of my fishing career.

Thanks again guys

PS superduty I think your onto something laugh
