never heard so much hipe over a guy scoring a run after being hit by a pitch. shocked

Not much hype at all!

It was tongue in cheek! Just a little needed humor in here after listening to all the poor sport BABY'S ad-naseum.

Cuddys having a good year so just relax and deal with it!

He also caught the Game Winning out in the 9th inning!... grin

got to swing at anything close on strike 2.

Just watch mauer

I don't recall anyone comparing him to Mauer.

But on a side note in reference to your point that was the first time I have ever seen Mauer swing at 3 straight ball four pitches. I think the inconsistent strike zone the umpire had tonight may have swayed him to swing at 3 pitches that were not close. I thought it was strange considering he has thee best eye in Baseball!

There is NO SUCH THING as a meaningless homerun. It puts a run (or more)on the board with one swing, bothers the pitcher, and usually swings momentum to that team. Now if a pitcher is use to giving up a lot of them (like Blyleven, or Ron Davis), it doesn't bother them quite so much shocked

Great move by Gardy to put Cuddy after Morneau, against lefties. Kubel isn't near as dangerous against lefties.

Just pulled up some stats:

Cuddy: 92 hr career

1 walk-off

20 tying

27 go-ahead

Morneau: 159 hr career

4 walk-off

8 tying

60 go-ahead

Obviously NOT meaningless............

good stats to put up. I wonder what his stats are in late game situations where they are behind or tied. I don't know what they are but it sure seems like he gets his big extra base hits early in the game and late game pressure situations he doesn't do so well (other than that game last week when he got the extra base hit that was big for them). Are there stats out there that compare batting avgs., slugging %, rbi's etc. in the 7, 8, 9, and extra innings as opposed to the first six innings of a game? Are many of those 20 tying and 27 go ahead hr's early or late in the game? (I'm not saying that they are all early and I could be all wet in thinking that the late inning stats aren't real good but just don't know.) (I'm also not saying that early game stats are not important but would be curious to know the comparisions of him and all players on the team for that matter because it seems like there have been many failures up and down the lineup late in the games this year.)

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/al/twins/lateinning.htm

I took some time and found some stats. Not surprisingly, these late inning pressure situation stats aren't very good for the team as compared to their opponents and his stats are mostly poor other than being able to get some walks to have a respectable obp %.

He's still having a nice season overall; much better than I thought he was capable. But the next time some spouts that cuddy's just had another clutch hit, keep in mind that "another" in this situation doesn't mean that he's been doing it regularly this season.

It truly would be a special season for him if he could start getting some more extra base hits and rbi's late in the game in pressure situations in addition to how well he has been hitting early in the game in less pressure filled situations. Of course he isn't the only one who could stand to better in these situations.

Not to jump to another horse, but Morny has 72 homers out of 159 that were tying, go ahead, or walk off. Wow. Double wow. I think that is impressive, but is it? I wonder how that compares to the Manny/Ortiz/A-rod/Pujols/Fielder/Texiera/etc?

Ahhhhh Greebs those are just facts, who uses those when analyzing a baseball player?? wink

The facts are Michael Cuddyer is 9th in the league in EXTRA BASE hits.

cuddy.jpg

The Facts are a select few of you guys who will remain nameless are and were wrong about Cuddy!

The facts are you will continue to amuse us with your 5th grade spoiled brat mentality. smile

In all seriousness you'll feel a lot better if you admit you are wrong about Cuddy. smile

I'm thinking HOME RUN TONIGHT!

Those are the FACTS JACKS!

o.k....here goes:

Morny: 72 out of 159 total=45%

K Puckett: 99 out of 207=48%

Thome: 219 out of 558=39%

Manny: 219 out of 538= 41%

Ortiz: 145 out of 302= 48%

A.Rod: 248 out of 572= 43%

Pujols: 176 out of 353= 50%

P.Fielder: 56 out of 138= 41%

Texiera: 95 out of 228= 42%

Griffey jr: 282 out of 621= 45%

Konerko: 121 out of 318= 38%

Crede: 62 out of 139= 45%

Beltre= 125 out of 247= 51%

So he is better than some ....worse than some.....These are ALL dangerous hitters. I tried to compare some HOFers, but stats weren't complete ...before computers... laugh

OH..........just in case anyone is wondering......

CUDDY: 48 out of 92= 52%..... wink

So were 101 games in, the season stats are done? So as soon as Cuddy goes to the Dl or goes into a midseason slide then what will you say. Aw, thats Cuddy just being Cuddy?

Ifs and buts were cherries and nuts, we'd all have a wonderful Christmas. Got hit in the arm last night, stayed in the game. If that were Crede he would have gone on the DL today.

I hope he doesn't go on the dl or a late season slide. He's one of the main guys on the team and bats typically in an important slot in the lineup so the team needs his production and health. He's had a good year for extra base hits no doubt about it. Same with rbi's. But the team really needs him to step up more in those crucial late inning at bats in close games and accumulate many more than the three extra base hits that he's accumulated so far this year and up that .174 batting avg. during those same pressure at bats. He's not the only one who has struggled in those situations however.

what's funny to me about this thread and others is that everyone wants to complain about how this guy makes this much money, but only hits for this average and hits this many homeruns.

Yet, most of these same complainers are complaining about how the Twins should spend more money and get some free agents and trade away prospects for one or two players that make much more than Cuddyer. How many more of these threads would we see if the Twins did every deal just to make a deal and signed every free agent just because it felt like a good idea at the time?

Look at the Mets, the Cubs, the Yankees, the Red Sox. They spend millions and millions on players that don't help their team one bit. The Mets are terrible. We all know about the Cubs. The Yankees are good, but should be unbeatable. The Red Sox wasted millions on Dice-K. The list goes on and on around the league.

not wasted money if your teams make the playoffs

So......as long as the Twins make the playoffs, Cuddy's contract isn't wasted money????

The bottom line is some people don't like Cuddy and never will. Some guys are underpaid, some guys are overpaid....very few are paid exactly what they are worth. I have no problem with Cuddy..... do we really want Delmon playing the field everyday?
