How many lures do you have?

Recommended Posts

This should be an interesting forum. Most of the guys on this site have been addicted a lot longer than I have being that I started my collection last year.

In line spinners- 22

Spinnerbaits- 10

Jerkbaits- 10

Glidebaits- 10

Walk the dog- 6

Prop- 10

Crankbaits- 15

Jigs w/shad- 8

Spoons- 3

I know that my collection is about to be blown out of the water. But I am still proud of it none the less.

John

I embarrassed to say this but.....somewhere between 300-400 total baits. Yes, I have a problem. In no way am I saying you would EVER need that many baits....a lot of them have not even hit the water yet. I will probably throw the same dozen or so lures all season. I have no excuses. My wife buys shoes.....I cant resist new lures. Oh, by the way, she has no idea about how many lures I own....and I suspect I have no idea how many shoes she owns.....its an even trade in my book. wink.gif

About 150, the majority are spinnerbaits and inline, and the lures that get used alot I have 2 of. I hate having a favorite bait get shredded or bent up and not having a replacement .

I have at least a dozen fishing component containers - tackle boxes, buckets, tupperware, the boat, etc. I have never counted how many lures (artificial baits) are in those containers. My muskie lure container has 40 vertical compartments - maybe 60 baits.

I know this is kinda sad since im only 13 but i got around 115 baits and the funny thing is ive gotten alot at muskies inc meetings for just being a kd and they want to get them into the sport and stuff.Thats also where i got my figrig rod last year

I have 21.

Yeh, bubbas, 21. That's all. Not through preference, exactly. But, well, they cost a lot of money these days. I think the price of musky lures in the last 10 years has gone up a lot faster than the cost of living wage increases I've gotten. blush.gif

I have my bucktails and spinnerbaits, and jerk baits and trolling cranks and surface lures. Five basic categories, four baits or so per category. So I concentrate more on what I do with them than whether they're exactly the right color or style. What else can I do short of refinancing my house?

I would have to join the fella that is around the four hundred mark.I know i have 200 or so inlines, 150 spinner baits, and all told probably 100 plus other baits. Actually when i think about it 400 is probably an extremely conservative estimate. I know there are guys out there that have alot more of them than that also.Fess up boys! I probably use 50 of them. It is truly a disease. Aint it great??

I have about 100 or so. I use 10-15 of them about 95% of the time. I've given my nephews about 20 lures in the last couple years. I'll likely be giving them 20 (or 40) more in the next couple years.

It is a sickness and I'm looking to treat it. I'll probably dump a bunch of what I have and make better use of a smaller collection.

c'mon man dont make me count!!! something about trying to count all of them that makes one start thinking about just how much $$$ has been spent. like some of the others on here i use, on a regular basis, a small percentage of what i own.

then again when i spend $20 on a muskie bait i feel like i am getting something more substantial for my $$ than paying $5 or $6 for a shad rap or something.

Oh man... I don't know, and I don't think I wanna know. I KNOW I don't want my wife to know...

I sorta started counting the ones on the ceiling in my office (I have a lot of them hung between the floor joists). Started counting 10" Jakes and 10" Believers. Hit 75 and quit. It's a sick deal. Some in boxes here and there too. A few in some cabinets. A big pile I found when I moved that I have to sort through - didn't get to it this winter. I have no clue what all is in there.

What's funny though is I don't have that many different KINDS of baits, I just have lots of the ones I know I use (like 10" Jakes and 10" Believers.) I have lifetime supplies of some of my favorites for sure.

A guess? 600+ maybe? Could be more. It's a sad deal.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

There are people that can help......like me!! Offload all you want!! grin.gif

I look in the garage and say I have more than enough, but once on the water the need (name/model/color) for a lure for every situation is added to the shopping list!

I learned the hard way last week that's it's critical to remove the sticker from the lure that has the price on it. I think the whole neighborhood heard the shreak of "$27.49 for a stupid lure?" grin.gif I tried to explain there is no such thing as a "stupid lure".....to no avail!

Best part is..........4 days and those lures are getting WET!

I heard that before, when I plopped down $25 for a weagle my wife made sure she let everyone know,(I hate when she comes to Thornes with me) of course I also tease her about the manicure/pedicure/shopping sprees.

How many lures? If we're only talking pike/musky, then I'd say somewhere around 30 pike lures and 15 musky lures. I'm mostly an 'eye guy, so these lures aren't at the top of my shopping list for the most part. smirk.gif If I include cranks, plastics and other lures I use for 'eyes, the occassional bass fishing, etc., then I've probably got close to 100.

I too got the "it costs $25 for that lure?" thing from my wife when I was shopping earlier this spring. Actually, since I hardly ever fish for musky and haven't bought a musky lure in years, I was asking MYSELF the same question! confused.gifcrazy.gifgrin.gif

Hiya -

Yeah, the BOSS can complicate the lure collecting. I'm fortunate though. A.) My wife's into muskie fishing too (she's got a couple 30 pounders to her credit already, and she hasn't been at it for more than a couple years) so she gets it B.) She has a thing for black shoes. smile.gif

I love these posts!!!!!!I've sold a bunch this winter, so I'm down a bit, but have been "collecting" for about 30 years.Like RK, I have lots of the same baits.I counted Suicks the other night and came up with 53 (9")and 42 (10") in various configurations.Spinnerbaits are a weakness too(for me and the fish)with 250 or so.Heard a joke the other day.....How does a Muskie fisherman become a Millionaire????He starts with 2 million. There is a cure for the disease.....TIME ON THE WATER. Jeepers Creepers... How do your boats stay afloat with all the bighooks you have with that many baits! grin.gif

I have maybe 20-25 baits. I usually only get out for skis a time or two a year though.
