2011 Deer Harvest Results Available

Recommended Posts

6 weeks after the seasons ended, and the data is finally posted. That's just sad that it takes that long, when it should be almost entirely automated. Computer generated report, licenses and registration are all computerized, there should hardly be a single human interaction in the thing other than to double check the data entered and post the sheet on the HSOforum.

Guess that's why the DNR is broke though, lack of efficiency.

Hate to say it, but I agree 110%

Alot of good info, but for me it's missing the most important data in the buck harvest, and that is how many yearlings are harvested annually. At least this year they have the buck fawns data where previous years it was only antlerless harvest data, where does, doe fawns and buck fawns were counted together.

What do you mean non teep?

When you register deer, its been fawn buck, fawn doe, adult buck, adult doe.

Been that way for many years....

The data the MN DNR has online goes back to 2003 and clearly shows fawn buck harvest....

good luck getting yearling harvest data.... how many people out there call a fawn a "yearling"????

Unless you have DNR people inspecting all the deer for age data, the numbers will be an absolute mess if you require people to give their opinion of it being a fawn buck or a yearling buck......

And is it really that big of a deal that its 6 weeks after the season ended and results are coming out?

Are any of you sitting there pining away waiting for the data so you can use it for next seasons hunting plans?

Good grief. If the DNR put the data out on Jan 1 with computer generated data, then had to pull it offline a couple weeks later because of data integrity issues, you guys would be the same ones whining because they should have validated the data instead of rushing to get the information out.....

Kinda sad.... I have friends in the DNR and I honestly think its one of the most thankless jobs out there to have.... bich bich bich bich....

Agree with hockey. Complained that it took them 6 weeks to get the info out. If it came out in 5 weeks they would complained that it didn't come out if 4. If they think it's so easy then they should go do it themselves instead of whining about it. No matter what the DNR does someone is always whining.

You're right, I would still complain if it didn't come out within the first week. We've got 500,000 hunters paying license fees to fund this division, and it takes a month and a half? If I had a report that was funded by $13million, you can bet I'd be fired in a heartbeat if it took me 6 weeks to do after all the data was in.

There certainly shouldn't be any "data integrity issues", the entire system is electronic! That means if I register 3 deer, it's in the system that 3 deer were registered in my area during my season. There's no screwing that up (except at the registration stations, and that's not reviewable anyway).

There's absolutely no reason the harvest report should take 6 weeks. Hopefully with our new big-game coordinator, he'll be a little more on the ball. That's assuming they actually hired someone rather than just wasting more of our money on interview processes on candidates that weren't worth hiring.

Guess someone has never had a computer problem before laugh But really who cares its out 6 weeks later did it really affect anyone's lives on here cause they weren't out one day after the season ended?

We fund a whole lot more than this division, deer season is a cash cow for the DNR.

I am really surprised at the outrage of it taking six weeks to get a report out. I am confident when I say this, I doubt the DNR has this as a top priority. What exactly have you been waiting to see in the deer harvest report? Was your life altered at all in the past 6 weeks because you hadn't seen this report yet, and if it was altered, please explain.

How long does it take the Turkey Hunting reports to come out?

The only thing that makes some people happy is complaining.

This.

....

And even after 6 weeks or however long I find it hard to believe no one shot a deer with a firearm in area 299. winkcrazy Data integrity... confusedconfused

....

If the person who did compile the report is reading this thank-you. Sure you got paid for it, it is your job, but I'm thinking you probably did it better than you had to. Thanks.

I think that a lot of these complaints are ridiculous. That said I think the basic premise of this original complaint is also incorrect where it says it's a 100% electronic. I believe there are still manual registration stations, not sure if they call it in or mail it or what, but I'm pretty sure there's one like that 14 miles West of my house.

I also agree how does it matter if the last fall deer harvest statistics don't come out until Valentine's Day? The new regs don't come out until about August 1st anyway.

WOW, thats funny we got ticketed for supposedly hunting a supposedly close area for archery yet on the results it shows deer were registered in this area during archery season.By the way our case is still on-going, and will have a huge report once its over with and I can talk more.

Some of my notes from my first observations of the results:

Not many deer are harvested out of 117, BWCA. Duluthians harvest a lot of deer by bow. Must be an error on table 19 area 299 has 0 firearms harvest. A lot of deer are shot in 346. In lotto/HC areas archers shoot more bucks than does, opposite is true in M and I. (Likely same for gunners, I haven't checked, yet.) Archers harvested deer in 287 where no arching is allowed. Muzzy hunters harvested deer in 224 where no muzzy hunting is allowed.
