Does DNR know what they are doing ?

Recommended Posts

i have lost just about all faith in the system, there are DNR officers doing great things but the department as a whole has lost all of my trust and respect in the last two years, between lies and bad decisions they have made.

I hope they can pull there heads out of there a** we need them and we need them to start making better decisions.

Yes, they just have an impossible job trying to keep everyone happy. Then you have the getting constantly undermined by lawmakers that believe they know better than the biologists that makes their job beyond impossible.

yes and I like

Yes they know what they are doing. The poloticians constantly undermine them. There should be zero influence from elected officials. Most elected officials could screw up a wet dream much less manage a resource other than thier ego.

I believe they do what they feel is the best for the majority of the sportsmen and women.

One can easily look at any discussion in these forums and see that any subject is divided on what everyone wants for regs.

I do not know if it would be possible to keep all happy.

Everyone wants a law to fit how they hunt or fish or what they want and no person or group can satisfy all.

Can't happen.

One only has to look at slot limits and deer seasons and see that it would be impossible to have any rules to keep all happy.

Many want to see more CO's in the field to make sure the laws are not being broken or abused but as soon as they need an increase in funding, many are against it. How are they to do this without increased funding?

Very easy for all of us to sit and pick apart what the DNR does and I at times am guilty of that but they have a very tough job to say the least to try to satisfy everyone.

I lost about all respect for officers in my hunting area. They themselves dont even understand all the rules/regulation in the handbooks yet want us to be able to. Overall I think most officers are doing the best they possibly can with what they have to work with.

Yes and no. It’s very regional and different divisions act in different ways. If you live in an area with a town say the size of Bemidji (10,000) or larger it works, but if you live in a rural area or try to make a living in a rural area look out.

Now wildlife and fisheries I think they have their head screwed on straight for the most part and do have a tough job. Right now I have to go to bear guide school, CPR and jump through a few hoops to get a guide license this year; it does make sense as to why. Do I like it no, but do I understand, yes. Do I like having to fill out 60 pages of permits and pay a grand or more to go harvest minnows, no but I know they have to do it to manage the resource. So yes they are doing the best they can with what they got.

Now Parks and Recreation along with some Forestry in the northern regions I think needs to be completely re-staffed with a more diverse background of people. At least have a good wake up call to shake the stuck on asphalt from the soles of their shoes before they walk down the gravel. From road closures to taking away municipal swimming beaches and trails MN DNR Parks and Recreation has ZERO respect for small communities, their inhabitant or their way of life. It’s a constant display of confusion and poor staffing structure as those that should be in charge are chastised and held back because they had the thought process to work with the communitties. A blatant display or show of force that it’s their DNR sandbox and nobody is going to play in it. A statement was made once at a DNR meeting with townspeople “The DNR has declared war on rural enterprise”, I could not agree more. Northern Minnesota has been dealing with this for a few years now and little has changed, BUT a glimmer of hope is we have a new Regional Manager and she gets it. Hopefully she can start shaking it down from the top but from what I see she has a room full kids that have been able to get away with whatever they want for too long.

Now thats a job I wouldn't want, no matter how much it paid. Luckily we ended up with a good warden in this area. Knows his stuff and is down to earth.
