I've been thinking since week 1 that the vikes should pick their spots to play Ponder. Tonight was a good example and a good time to get him some experience. You don't need to throw him into the fire right way and all at once.

I'd probably start McNabb again next week and see how it goes. If its similar results then let Ponder play the entire second half. Maybe after the bye week you could look to start him. That way you could have him work for 2 weeks with the first team offense in practice, something he probably hasn't had a lot of time to do being the backup.

As long as we are able to play Ponder enough to get a read on his future potential I am happy. The main goal for this year now that we are 1-5 is to find out if Ponder is our future or if we need to look for something in the next draft.

I also think Don will get the nod up until it's clear the front line cannot maintain a pocket (As if we haven't seen enough already). I don't blame McNabb for the problems.....there's more issues on this team than just him. The passing in the dirt doesn't help. It's clear that anything with man coverage or worse, he doesn't have the confidence in his receivers to fight for the reception.

McNabb is killing us...he won't throw the ball downfield...and the tape shows it. Enter 8-9 guys in the box all game long. AP doesn't have a chance. Blitz packages are endless with 8-9 at the line and then Mcnabb (and our line) doesn't have a chance. The combination of the two is a death sentence to any offense. It's football 101.

The season is OVER...we are 6 games in and 5 games back. For those of you not wanting to start Ponder you need to be mentally evaluated...seriously.

Ponder threw the ball deep more times in limited action tonight than McNabb has all year long. Doesn't matter if he "hit" on any...the threat was there.

McNabb needs to be released...Ponder needs to start...and the Vikes front office better get ready to draft some O-Lineman in this off-season.

after a long day in the woods i fell asleep during the 2nd quarter. actualy got diss-interested in the game during the 1st quarter. the vikes looked uninspired with the exception of a few players. i was surprised to see Berrian still in the line-up. woke up in the 4th quarter and seen Ponder in there. thought i was dreaming. hopefully they keep him in there the rest of the way. cut McNabb and Berrian. good luck.

I see no reason why we would start McNabb another game this season.

I do realize that the Vikes have more issues than just at the QB position.

The guy takes a safety before he could be hit and may have had a chance to get a ft out of the end zone.

Why does a player call a fair catch on the 5 yard line when it would more than likely go into the end zone 99 times out of 100 and start at the 5 if he catches it when we could let it go and start at the 20?

Yes, recievers have dropped a few passes.

Both lines also stink.

With all that said, since the season is done, why not try to give Ponder and or Webb more time to play? Mc Nabb is nothing more than a old QB that simple does not have the arm is at a minimum.

Let's take out lumps and work on next season. There is no reason to start McNabb again. Not 1.

Only makes sense to me

It's Monday morning. Let the armchair quarterbacking/coaching proceed! grin

Someone needs to as the coaches seem to not make the needed changes. Nothing wrong with making a few suggestions since the coaches cannot.

If feet could catch a thrown ball, McNabb would double his throwing percentage.

Vikings play the Packers 2 times in the next 3 games so it is guaranteed that either McNabb will get injured and they will be forced to play Ponder or They will be down by 30 points in the second half of at least one of those games if not both and that would be another good spot to throw him in since the Packers would then start sitting a few starters.

I think that McNabb will get "injured" soon and give the coaching staff and McNabb the excuses they need to make Ponder the starter.

McNabb is so bad at this point of his career. Can he see past 10 yards down the field? He doesn't make any plays. A quarterback should have a dream season when they stack the defense against the run.

Leslie is way too conservative. I don't think he can coach at this level. Bad hire by the Vikings.

I was really encouraged by what Ponder brought on the field last night. He did well for coming into a nationally televised game, down by 30 points, offensive line in pieces and a pretty good defense on the other side of the ball. He didn't have half of what McNabb did and outplayed McNabb hands down. I am also sure he was nervous as a hooker in church. Give him reps, practice and a little time to shake the nerves and he will be only better.

Cut McNabb, and as he is riding his horse out of town, hook a wagon up to it and put Sullivan in it. Without a doubt, the hands down WORST center in the league. Should have never let Birk go.

I'll agree that McNabb doesn't look like he's trying to be the difference maker. Maybe he didn't put his nose in the playbook like he should have, or just isn't interested in playing at a high level, but it shows on the field.

However, the question at hand is who will start against the Packers. I think that Frazier will start McNabb.

I don't like sticking Ponder in at the end like was done last night. The Bears knew that the Vikings were done throwing the ball. They sent the pass rush and dropped into coverage so that Ponder had to scramble because receivers were blanketed. That's not how you find out what Ponder has to offer. He needs to operate from the beginning of a game, when he can fully utilize the balance of his running game.

If I were the Vikings coach, I would likely give Joe Webb the start because he would be my #2 QB. I see that Ponder is listed as the #2 QB so I think that you'd have to start Ponder against the Packers for that reason (i.e. you've already made the decision).

I say start McNabb, if we are out of the game early, put in Ponder, then after the game, list Ponder as your starter, and have him practice with the 1st squad players for the 2 weeks prior to our next game. That should give him some good opportunities to get on stride with our receivers, and get the feel for handing the ball off to Peterson. This bye week will give Ponder the much needed reps with the starters.

I have to agree with MN Nice. With our O-line whoever is behind center against the Pack is going to take a beating, and it might as well be McNabb. Start Ponder the following week against the Panthers - with the bye week after that to build on any success he has and learn from whatever mistakes he makes. He'll need an extra week of practice and film study before heading into to Green Bay.

McNabb is certainly not the answer and Ponder is the only thing that might keep fan interest the rest of the season. But don't send your new car into a demolition derby.

I don't see it happening, but they should start Ponder the rest of the season. He gives them a better chance of winning (not that it matters at this point). He can actually see down the field, and throw it there. The Bears had 9 guys in the box the whole entire game. They should've been able to complete deep crosses over the middle all game long. Yet Mcnabb didn't thrown one down the field, as he hasn't all season. It's also on the play calling. Everybody who has watched a vikings game know they were gonna start that game run run incompletion. With that said when Ponder came into the game he lead them down the field into field goal range twice throwing the ball down the field, with absolutely no time to throw what so ever. I hope Sullivan is hurt so he can't play next week. He is god awful and too small. Heck the whole line is god awful including Hutch. Yea he was good back in the day, but he is old and slow now. I hope they give Ponder the start and open up the down field passing game. That will open it up for AP too, who hasn't been able to go full speed through a whole all year long.

i think we will know by wendsday according to Frazier. i didn't give his normal blessing to McNabb today as usual. i say it's Ponder on Sunday. i cant see how one week both lines look great and this week both lines sucked big time. frazier blamed the defensive line this week because they were not aggressive and physical enough and also said the same about the offensive line but to a lesser degree. Harvin should be used more. that guy puts out 100% out there. frazier has to be more diciplined and sit down veterans who are not putting out 100%. they get paid well to do their best. good luck.

Those who think Joe Webb should be starting are nuts. The guy is not a quarterback. A good athlete yes, a qb no. His mechanics are no good, and accuracy is terrible. Has a hard time throwing a spiral too.

HMM sounds like Mcnabb. But at least Webb is a YOUNG athlete. I've lobbied for him since the first week. The answer to a winning season? Not a chance. But he'd bring the entertainment factor up a notch or two.

BUT now that they let Ponder in, they might as well start him. Go all in. Quit fartin around. Webb can be 2nd, and Mcnabb can go home, wherever that is.

So then, who should start? Ponder.

Who will start? Mcnabb. Frazier is way too nice a guy to cut him down just yet. Two more starts, then the Mcnabb debacle is done.
