Couldn't have happened to a better guy. Glad the powers that be overlooked the fact that he doesn't play for one of the "Big Market" teams...yet.

That'll look good on his resume' huh?

It would be nice if the Twins could keep him but if they do pay Mauer the big bucks, they will never be able to put any other decent players with him in the future. There will be no money left over to put together a competitive team.

Yeah it quickly becomes almost like a Garnett issue. We all want the guy here but his salary might hurt the franchises future.

We could trade Nathan to free up some (although I still am behind Nathan) Anyways I don't want to change the subject. Mauer was very well deserving of the award and he recieved all but one first place vote.

IT WASN'T EVEN CLOSE.... No reason for the CRY-ankees fans to be wining about it! Mauer put up insane numbers and still missed a month of the season. It was one of the best seasons for a catcher in MLB history!

Mauer also gets a cool $100,000 for being named MVP.

Oddly Magglio Ordonez got $200,000 for finishing 4th with one vote. Musta paid some writer off to pick that up!

How is it that mauer got a $100,000 bonus for winning the MVP, but miguel cabrera got $200,000 for finishing 4th?

Stipulations in their contracts? Remember, Crede had a stipulation in his contract regarding number of games he played this past season, most players don't.

To me it seems like getting the most money is not his top priority. I think what the Twins do to put players around him, meaning being somewhat aggressive in free agency, is more important to him in trying to win a WS. I hope Smith/Pohlads realize this. I think he can double his current contract and then some if Twins sign him to an extension before free agency. We have too many key players that are in their prime, we just need to solidify some positions(I think we all our opinions what those are). And I think that is what Joe is looking for. Twins needs to show him what they will do with the team and I hope that'll be enough for him to sign an extension. I really think he would rather stay here.
