DTro
I just might have to raise a drink and shed a tear for good ol Phil tonight.

bobbymalone
i saw a clip from the show on the leno or something last night.... i dunno. something about jamming a camera in the face of a dying man apologizing to his son about being a bad father and telling him he loves him leaves a bad taste in mouth. one could make the argument that they chose to have cameras up in their grills or that they could have had them leave or asked them not air it. either way it's tasteless carp... fame and fortune do weird things to people.i won't be watching.just my 2 cents. carry on. DTro
I'm sure the family will be getting a nice chunk of change. I'm sure Phil trusted that it would be done in good taste. Will Discovery benefit from his death? Of course, but they can still have a little class while doing it. From everything I've seen so far it's been handled pretty darn good.I just fired up a little "Tuesdays Gone" in preparation.....
rushing
Discovery channel did a great job with that ep! Pretty touching.
DTro
yeah, that was pretty hard to watch. But they did a really good job.
Supercrew
The wife and I plan our tuesday nights around this show, tonight I had to walk away.
cribbageboy
I think The Discovery channel did a really good job of handling it. Definitely tough to watch though. Can't help but to think of what I'm gonna do when my father passes. Hopefully that's not for a long time though.
Ryan_V
Yeah that was tough. Good to see Jake is going to treatment. Not sure how his dads death will affect that. From watching the "after the catch" special, it looked to me like both Jake and Josh were tugging on those "e-cigs"??? Anyone else catch that?? I didn't know Phil lived in that trailer. I knew he had it, but thought it was his getaway. Next weeks is the 2 hour special.
solbes
So next week is a two hour special. They advertised on the radio that it was last night, which was the normal show plus A.T.C. I thought the episode was done pretty well, it's not something that has been done very often (if ever). Phil liked the cameras and always trusted the show, so that's why the boys wanted the footage aired. After the catch was okay. I don't usually watch them and only watched the first 1/2 hour of it last night. A little too jovial for me as there was really no transition from the first hour to the second. But it does sound like they are doing some good things to mermorialize his life and help out others.
mrklean
yeah that was a tough one to watch but they were very tasteful in how they did it
McGurk
I thought the most interesting part of After the Catch (which I'm not to fond of BTW) was when they brought the cameraman/producer Todd that was with Phil for the last few seasons to the table. Pretty cool that after the stroke and while he was in the hospital, Phil made it clear that he wanted all of this documented. It did make me wonder if he knew how large of a TV event it would be, and the impact it would have on the continuing operation of the CM. jwhjr
I thought that they handled it well. I do remember reading shortly after he passed that he did ask that they keep filming.
SFC
The last half hour of A.T.C that u missed showed how phil told the producer of the show, who is also a cameraman on his boat and good friend that he wanted them to complete the story and keep filming. Josh waved the camera off a couple times and they respected his wishes. Show handled it very well like said above. Hopefully the boys step up to the plate and dont let fame & fortune ruin their lives!
Wanderer
I hope for the best for Josh and Jake with whatever road they choose. They're pretty young yet to have lost their father and cornerstone of their lives. It seems like everyone is pushing for them to fill Phil's shoes in some way - and soon. I just don't think either are ready to take control of a boat yet. Heck, neither of them were deck boss yet on their own crew. The C/M is owned by someone else and they'll be the one to decide who skippers the C/M in the future. Maybe they'll look to the Harris boys to show some initiative toward taking it over but I would be surprised if happened within the next few years. Just my take on it.If the crew can stay together and weather this out, someone will be a lucky skipper to step on a boat with a crew as tight as theirs.Rest in peace Phil. Double D
From what I have read Phil Harris was part owner of the boat with Cornelia M. Devlin, so they might inherit some say on who the new captain is. We'll find out next year probably.DD
JBMasterAngler
There's no way I'd want to be the replacement captain on the cornelia marie! That'd be like taking over the coaching job of penn state after paterno retires!

Ryan_V
Watched the tribute show last night and finally got to watch the episode tonite. It was tough to watch, Phil was an excellent guy!! To bad he had to go so soon. His "urn" was pretty sweet, never seen a gas tank used for that purpose before!!Anyone know the significance of 8 rings of the bell when the Wizard did the tribute to him when they rang the bell 8 times and let a pot of crab go over the side??You could tell all those guys are close. they all took his passing very tough. Ryan_V
kind of an uneventful season finale. Glad to see Josh back on the Cornelia and Jake in treatment. Hope he makes the program. Don't think Sig is happy with Edgar wanting off the boat, and he's regretting how he treated him years ago! Wonder who will be running the Time Bandit next year. I like Mike, hope they give him a chance.
Ralph Wiggum
Yeah, kind of a dull finale. I missed the first 10 or so minutes because the storm knocked out DirecTV for a bit, but I don't think I missed much. Next year will be interesting--lots of changes ahead for the fleet. B.R.O.
Dont think treatment did much good for Jake... Current news was he skipped a court date he had for a hit and run while drunk driving.
