My season has ended before it even started

Friday, I was on my up north sturgeon fishing. I ended up getting stranded in the snow storm and spent the night in my truck. I decided to go back home and give up on the trip. I couldn't get my truck and boat in my drive way because of the snow. I parked on the side of the street. I got into my house sat down on the couch and fell asleep as soon as I sat down. When I woke up I decided I better dig out and move my truck and boat. Only to find they both had been side swipped by a snow plow. Now my fishing season is over. Everytime I try to go hunting or fishing this kinda stuff happens. I'm about ready to give up on it all and sell all my gear. I cant afford this bad luck any longer.

Could one go after the city for something like this? If not, if you have full coverage, would it cover the boat also since it was hoked up? If not, did you have insurance on the boat it self?

I would get threw it and chalk it up to "paying" your dues for fishing. We all have been close to this point, but a true fisherman comes out in the end.

Good luck dude.

Liability only on the boat. I've got full coverage on the Truck. I cant afford another boat or at least wont be able to afford one for many months to come. There is a chance that the counties insurance will cover it but I have to wait and see what the police report says. It was a hit and run and I found a witness who reported it when it happened. I'm sure i'll go out some this summer but this definatley puts a damper on my summer. I've had a string of bad luck and everytime I plan a trip I get farther in the hole.

I can feel your pain. I had the same kind of luck about 15 years ago. I had bought a new Lund Rebel. About a week after the walleye opener I was heading home after an evening of fishing on a local lake. I was just about dark and as I came around a curve in the road there was a moose standing on the roadway. I tried to swerve to avoid it, but it stepped out in front of my vehicle. I ended up with a totaled vehicle and a new boat mangled on the roadway. I took a couple of weeks to get the insurance company to settle up and get a new Rebel.

A week later I went to Lac Suel with a bunch of my friends. I was following a friends boat out onto the lake and got sidetracked looking a my depth finder. Next thing I know I rear-ended his boat. My boat slid up over the left rear corner of his boat slicing a hole in the hull about 2 feet long below the water line. Another boat totaled and trip ended. Each boat cost me a $500 deductible to replace.

I was just about ready to quit after that. But, I got another boat and have operated incident free since then. So keep the faith There are more fish that need catching.

I thought I was the only one with bad luck....My son-in-law lost a motor that was borrowed because he forgot to use the tie-down for the outboard, and then one time going up for the opener, my boat and trailer past me by on the freeway. Our wives weren't going to let us go fishing again together.

Good luck getting your things back.

I agree go after the city, that should be considered a hit and run, they didnt call the cops to say yea i kinda hits this boat with my plow, and he didnt notify you. They should be paying you back.

If the boat and truck were hit by a municipal plow truck and they didn't stop I would think this is a hit and run situation. Because you have a witness, I would think the city/county would be very interested in getting this situation fully settled in a hurry.

First of all you don't have to give up on the insurance. If the trailer was hooked up to your truck the truck policy may cover the damage to the boat. Talk to your agent and ask.

Are you sure it was a city plow that did the damage?

Did the plow actually hit the truck and boat or was the damage caused by the snow the plow was throwing?

For those that are answering - he lives in South Dakota and the law there about insurance may be considerably different than Minnesota.

I would bank on the city pating for it, especially if it wasn't in a snow emergency no parking zone--snow dates ended anyway? If you play your cards right, you might end up smelling like a rose--another reason everyone to have "REPLACEMENT" coverage on a boat, not just "FULL COVERAGE" , Good Luck

Sorry to about your luck, I'm sure your Insurance Co. and or the City/CTY may be more responsive if you have a lawyer contact them. I hate to "lawyer up", but sometimes it is necessary in order to be fully compensated. Remember to include legal fees in your claim.

That is really bad news. I know that here in the Windy City, if one of our villages plow drives damages your mail box while plowing they are responsible and will pay for the repairs. I know that a boat is a lot more money than a mailbox but it is also a ton bigger and easier to see. Sounds like a very careless plow driver or maybe somebody that was at the end of his shift and very tired. I would think you have a case. My advice would be a call to my insurance guy and the police and go from there.

Good Luck!

I used to plow snow for a public agency. I sideswiped a parked car in a local town. I called the cops, filed a police report and everything and the public agency fixed the car. We are self insured...

If you had full coverage on your truck your boat should be covered as long as it was hooked to your truck!

You may also be covered by your home owners insurance as mentioned.

Go after the city also! That should be considered a Hit & Run!!

Bummer though!!

The boat/truck was definately hit by the plow blade there is yellow paint stuck to it. The police will be getting me a report in 3 business days. I'll go from there. Right now I dont know how it will turn out considering the road my be an emergency snow route but though I havent ever noticed any signs. Hopefully the county will pay for it. I only paid $3000 for the boat but I got a good deal on it so it is worth alot more than that to me. Im still going to go sturgeon fishing next weekend. So im not giving up. I'd take pictures and post them... But like i said i've had bad luck and my digital camera, along with my ecaller, and shock collar were all stolen during snow goose hunting. I must have been a poacher in a past life or something.
