Best Hong Kong LED Lights

Has anyone that ordered these light strips had a problem with burnt out lights?

I have posted before that i recieved my four 48 cm led light strips Monday December 3rd from Best Hong Kong and tried the lights out. 1 strip had 3 burnt leds and another had 4 burnt lights. Today, after trying out the other two strips after i hooked them up to my fish house, i found out 1 strip has 8 burnt out led's and another has 3 burnt out. These lights have never been hooked up to a battery for more than 15 minutes.

My Question is, has anyone had a problem with these lights burning out quick and if so, have you had any problem with the customer service trying to get them replaced?

I have sent the company an email about the problem and never had a reply back.

I have heard so much great things about these lights from this site that i wanted to try them out and i cant believe that i have the only bad strips that this company has sold.

I ordered mine Nov 1st and they came last week. Only ordered two 48cm strips for my portable. All the lights work on both strips and light my portable very well. I sure hope they don't start burning out the more they get used.

I received two 48cm strips back in Oct. They had been backordered at that time also but it did not take a real long time for the lights to arrive. Hooked them up to find three burned out LED's in one strip, the other works fine. Nice light in the house. Pretty pleased overall.

I ordered a total of four sets, and when I got them, all LED's worked on all four strands. Today, I took them out to install them on my portables and I noticed that on one strand, 3 LED's were not working. I suspect that in the cold weather, when you bend the stands, it may cause some damage to the wiring. This is pure speculation on my part.

I have been using the same set for three years. I bought the flexible ones not the flat type. I do believe that if you purchase the flat non flexible type lights that if you bend them to much you will have issues. Get the ones that are in like a plastic coating and you should not have any issues for years.

I don't think the led's are burning out. they are very hearty. most likely broken wires or connections. we make led lights at work that I want to try but they are more of a spot light than strip lighting. only draw about 50ma. which means they should run over 100hrs on a vex battery.

Thats what I have seen aquafang. The non plastic coated ones you cannot flex or the wire contact will be intermitent and they may work if you flex the bar. frown.gif The plastic coated ones one can almost tie in a knot and they still light up. cool.gif

If one purchases the non plastic coated ones you must mount them on a very flat surface and be very careful and then you should be ok. Dont bend the lights or you could run into problems.

Its a bad deal and I'm sure CS to China or Japan is pretty poor.

I got to test drive them for the first time last night and they worked great. I put in 2 48 cm in my quick flip III and could read a book if I wanted to. The only thing that I see being an issue is if your a line fisherman you may need to add additional strips.

FYI - I just added a reflectix insulation to the roof of my Otter Cabin (total weight added about 4 ounces!) just as others have done. Wow! it fits great, folds down great (will be a bit more effort but not much) and holy cow does it make my two BestHonLED 48cm LED strips seem even brighter. It is not hard on the eyes, but you can definitely read, tie tiny diameter line, see everything just perfect.

Granted, I only had it in garage so far, but turned off all lights except the LEDs and it is looking darn good and bright, without being overbearing. I even put an inline toggle switch to make turning it on easy. I thought about putting a switch for both light strips, so I could make it dimmer, but I think this will work out great. I just got another 7amp batt, so will be nice to have a spare along. No more need for lantern, so that lightens the load a bit. I guess maybe I break even on weight.

Can't wait to try it out on Saturday morn, maybe Friday night. smile.gif For anybody considering the reflectix, I say go for it. The roll cost $30 at Fleet, but it will do probably 3 two man houses or at least two larger houses. I will give some of mine to my bro-in-law for his Eskimo.

    • Sorry to hear that Duff. Will give my GSP's an extra scratch behind the ear for you guys today
    • Aw, man, sorry to hear that.  Shed some tears and remember her well.  They all take a piece of our hearts with them; some more than others.
    • yes sorry for your loss..  our dogs are always special...
    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
