I think they could've won the series against the Yanks if they would've just took the bat out of Gregoriuos's hands a time or 2  the last couple games. Good to see 'em pounding the ball again, still need to get their pitching staightened out, starters & bullpen.

its been entertaining baseball watching them go blow for blow back and fourth with both the A's and then the Yankees. I was pretty fired up about the umping in the 2nd game,  but good teams dont leave it to the ump to be a factor. Don't give up the runs and score more than the other team and the umps wont be a factor. When we had the bases loaded on walks with Chapman and no outs we needed to score more than a single run there and game would have been over. 

 

Game of inches, that pitch for what should have been 3rd strike in the 8th, and if Keplers hit slices an inch more he ties the game or possible empties them and the game is over.

 

I am concerned about not only our bullpen and lack good bodies, but all of our starters going high in the pitch count in the 5th and 6th innings. Schedule looks much easier coming up, I hope the bats take some pressure off the the pitchers and starters can go a little deeper and not tax the bullpen like they have lately.

I think they have finally realized that they can hold their own against the Yanks......I hope so at least.

 

Cleveland will hopefully come back down to earth once they start playing some better teams.

I still think we will be playing in October at this point.

Cleveland is only getting better . Klueber just started throwing again supposed to be back in the next couple weeks. Best ERA since the break and their best pitcher is coming. Twins need to trade now not wait make the moves and try to make the playoffs if they wait we lose in the bidding wars and miss the playoffs. By bidding i mean the other teams will give up more for the one or two players in the trade.

There's been a big difference in the quality of the teams in the other dugout since the Twins left Cleveland  IMO.

Well, now Cleveland will be playing the likes of Houston, Boston, and the Yankees, while we play Chicago, KC, and Detroit 26 more times.

 

Why on earth did they give Kepler the day off last night? They seriously couldn’t have waited until tonight? I can’t really say for certain that Jake Cave single handedly lost the game for us, but his performance in the 2nd inning alone, made it quite difficult for the twins to win.

Kepler & Cruz did the most damge at the plate. Pineda & Thorpe carried their own out on the mound as well. Perez tonight.

Yup......lost Fox Sports North. Complained to Dish.  They said not their fault. All Fox's fault. I still have a contract with them for 15 more months. To expensive to drop them. But depending how long this lasts.....I told Dish, I would be looking for somewhere else to get my programming.

You're not alone, been hearing that from a lot of people.  Good win yesterday, Gibson & the bullpen looked good. Bats were smoking early  & KC beat Cleveland, back up 2.

This big run Cleveland is on, the 18-5 stretch is impressive. But the only team they played with a winning record was the Twins and they lost 2 of 3.  In that 23 game stretch the teams Cleveland played are a combined 137 games under .500.

 

Cleveland has got a much tougher schedule coming up. Time for the Twins to put them away for good. Hopefully Bauers meltdown yesterday was the first sign of implosion

couple hours left until trade deadline, I admit I have a little anxiety right now. Want to them to make a move but don't want them to give up too much in return. 

 

Not sure what message Cleveland is sending. With Kluber and Carrasco out, I not sure them getting rid of their best starter makes them better.  Puig is probably already thinking about which Twins players he wants to fight lol.

I'm still not a believe in this team long term.  It smells alot like catching lightning in a bottle for a year then next year they are back to the middle of the pack.  Because of that I'm not in favor of sending any top prospects off for a top tier starter on an expiring contract.  If we give up a top prospect it better be for a top of the rotation guy that will be year a couple years but that ain't gonna happen.  I would be happy if they were able to pick up another quality arm for the bullpen assuming the price isn't too high.  That gives you an arm that can help you out in multiple games during a playoff series versus one guy that can pitch every 4th game.  Hopefully a solid bullpen and our offense will be able to make up for the deficiencies in the starting rotation.

We picked up 2 pitchers today, Diplan (AA) from the Brewers for cash that they were out of options on so he didn't cost 'em much. The other, Dyson, from the Giants for 3 prospects & appears to be a pretty solid reliever.

To be honest I'm a bit disappointed.  This is there year to make a deep push.  They should have spent the money for an ace.  As the day went on my hope was disappearing and now here we are on Thursday morning.  Sure this guy has decent numbers but I don't see him helping us win a world series now that the Astros are stacked.

I am ok with it, the Twins are on pace to win 99 games and just added 2 above average players to what was their weakest link. They are right now the best power hitting team in the league and could finish at a historic pace with a good 1-9 lineup of hitters and even bench players.

 

Grienke also had the Twins on his no trade list. Prices were too high across the board and no one besides Houston took the bait.

 

Dodgers also didnt make any moves. Neither did the Yankees and their pitching looks terrible,  cheap Steinbrenners!

I heard Buxton mentioned a bunch in all the Syndegaard talk, personally I'm glad they didn't go for that. Houston traded away 5 or 6 of their top prospects yesterday, better have a real good minor league system if your going to do that. I think Washington & Atlanta did the best job without selling the farm yesterday myself.

This isn't a money issue. It doesn't take money to make the trade it takes the willingness to give up talent. 

 

Lets look at the options for top tier starting pitching that was supposedly available. You had Bumgarner and Syndergaard who ended up not going anywhere.  That indicates the asking price was way to high.  When a team like the Yankees who are starved for pitching can't get a deal done you know the asking price had to be stupid high. Then you have Grienke, reports are the Twins looked into his availability but he had a no trade clause and wouldn't wave it for a trade to the Twins. 

 

Really the Twins did about the only thing they could do.  2 of the 3 starters that were supposedly available were never going anywhere and the 3rd apparently wouldn't agree to go to the Twins.  They could have maybe looked at the next tier of starting pitchers but we've already a roster full of middle of the road starters, adding another doesn't help.  Given what Houston did I'm not sure there is a trade we could have made that would have given us a better team than they have.  We'd have had to land both Bumgarner and Syndergaard and even then I'm not sure we'd be the better team.

Lets not forget the dodgers had Greinke and Kershaw for 3 years and didn't win a title. I am not ready to crown Houston the champs yet, still a lot of baseball to be played. Lets hope the Twins bats stay hot.

 

If you look at the playoff stats for those Houston pitchers, they are not that great. Are they good pitchers yes, but their playoff numbers are not dominating nor did it win many games in the past. I think this year with the way the ball has been flying out of the park, I like the Twins chances with the offense they have now.

Like Bremer was saying today, with this early trade deadline they can't make any trades if 1 of the big guns gets hurt. September 1 they  go to a 40 man roster, anybody on the expanded roster on 7/31 can play.
