Popular Post leechlake
I was wondering why I was posting this here since my dad didn't cook a ton, but was renowned for his breakfasts mainly because he was a bacon expert. My dad passed away yesterday at 86 years old (third from right in photo). If you could die perfectly he surely did that. He got to whisper "I love you's" to his kids and grandkids and a little while later peacefully moved on to be with my mom. Good timing since their Anniversary is tomorrow, Sept 20. He was awesome. He discovered Nueske's bacon before it's time and discovered Thielen's bacon 20 years before it was in the NY Times. He made thousands of pancakes (the thin Swedish kind) for his family and especially canoe shaped ones for his grandkids when they visited him at the cabin. Lowell Martinson was his name. marine_man, noahsdad, icehole10 and 8 others

LindellProStaf
Leech, that is a wonderful tribute to your Dad. I wondered about your Mom but didn't want to ask. All is well now with the Martinson's. Seeing the kids hug him with their eyes closed says it all. That is a real hug of love....... Enjoy your coffee this morning Leech and then the rest of the day. You touched us all with your Dad post. Thanks....... Looks like 4th of July at the cabin. Tears here too.. bobberineyes, chaffmj, JP Z and 1 other

Popular Post leechlake
I appreciate all the kind words. My dad was on the Honor Guard at the Walker Legion until he couldn't walk on his own anymore. Somebody went over to his place and lowered the flag in his honor, nice touch I thought. LindellProStaf
Very nice touch indeed. Gives me goosebumps. I am not that religious but am very spiritual. You Leech are a Brother to all of us. I don't know how I am going to deal with my Mom and Dad passing. (or whatever word is easier to use) My Dad is 83 and my Mom is 79. They are both in good health. Knock on wood. Like I said on the Walmart thread, my Dad beat me by 8 strokes golfing last week. He golfs almost daily and I only do it twice a year now but that is still cool as hell to have my Dad say Bar (short for Barry) you are still lifting your head. lt used to pee me off and now I love it. I AM 61 YEARS OLD and my Dad is still teaching the game of golf. That is how cool Dad's are I guess is my point. You are a very lucky man Leech to have had such a wonderful Dad. As in the Cat Stevens song "You have grown up like me". What an honor.... Good to know you Leech.. chaffmj and Jim Almquist

pushbutton
Oh man, so sorry Leechlake. While part of life, it still sucks. Yeah, awesome pic and story!! Just got back from a week long trip with the pops and reading this makes it even more special. We are headed out again in a few weeks, will make sure to bring some Thielen's bacon, and do up a good breakfast in your dad's honor. reinhard1 and chaffmj
ThunderLund78
Oh man, like the rest, I have tears welling up. An incredibly well-done tribute, Leech. Losing my dad is my worst fear, you need to appreciate every moment you can with your aging parents -- and it sounds like you did. Condolences to you and your family. I always think three's a little bit a fate involved when things like this happen on or close to important dates. I couldn't help but smile a little through the tears when I read that he passed a day before his wedding anniversary to you mom who proceeded him. Things like that give you a little joyful pause and something to emotionally lean on during the tough times of mourning. Very sorry for your loss. chaffmj
