favorite ways to northern fish

My least favorite ways are trolling or with slip bobbers and live bait! BO-RIGN! :P I will have a shad rap out while moving from spot to spot, however. I just hardly ever "work" an area just with trolling.

Chubby darters underneath a slip bobber is fun though. Probably my favorite ways to fish northerns are burning inline spinners or fast-stripping streamers. Soft plastics also are high on the list.

To be honest those are my favorites because my two year old son is usually with me and they are the easiest when he is with casting around isn't plus he really likes to help set the hook which is easier with those methods haha

I'm with BBass.I do however like a presun up,Midlake hump in 20-30 ft of water,Drop a LARGE sucker 3 ft off the top of the hump.Layback watch nature, sun up and sip my coffee and be out of there around 9AM.Largest northern I ever caught came this way few over 20,lots of teens. Its the 12 lber I'm after for the stuffed northern bake. I will take one all season and catch more than one would think.Patience is the game

I'm not the biggest northern fan but a few times a year we go out to catch some to make fish cakes, just looking for some hammer handle types. My dad's place has a lake full of them, we usually use a yellow marabou jig and a white pork rind. It's a method my dad used back forty years ago and we go "old school" and troll the weed edges and jig for them. Rarely don't slay enough for a few meals of cakes. God I hate cleaning those slime balls but they are pretty tasty as fish cakes.

Casting over weedbeds, without a doubt! Spoons, shallow cranks, bucktails...doesn't matter.

We've got a couple bays up on LOTW that are great for very nice sized pike...drifting over them on a warm sunny afternoon and watching big northerns come shooting up out of the weeds is about as much fun as I've had fishing anywhere.

Come to think of it, next time up I think I'll bring the flyrod and give it a go with some flies like the pics in the last post! Perfect water for that I'd think.

On a Fly great pics.

Also tell me about your rig it looks great.

BTW safety pin style spinner yellow and black-best all terrain lure to get a reaction strike-if the lake is not weedy I might go in line-suckers are for ice fishing IMO.
