There goes my deer season

Recommended Posts

Well, my deer season just got put on the back burner due to my wife giving birth to my new little hunting buddy last night. She wasn't due until next week but he decided to come a week early. Both mother and son are doing great and I couldn't be happier. grin

Maybe I will be able to sneak out a couple hours Saturday morning to hunt around home though! wink Good luck and be safe everybody!

Congrats. My son will be in his second hunting season on Sat. Last year he passed on 13 does waiting for a buck.

I put a blind up for him today where I saw 5-7 different bucks on Wed. Really hoping he gets one of them!!!

That's what you have to look forward to!!!

Dr. said they can't come home until Saturday. I'll still try to get out to my in-laws outside of town but it won't be the same as heading up to deer camp. Maybe next weekend for a short trip, will have to see how things go. I know my wife wouldn't object to it, she is a wonderful wife but I must keep my priorities straight. I'll have to experiance "Deer Camp" vicariously through text messages, phone calls and HSO. So good luck and be safe guys. Can't wait to start reading all the hunting stories. smile

You may miss this one deer camp, but you have just taken a huge step in making sure you have a hunting partner for life. I enjoy deer camp as much as anyone, but having my kids with me and just seeing a deer is worth its weight in gold.

Congrats on the little one.

Congrats! Is this your first kid?

My wife and I just had our first (a little girl) in May. I know desire to get out hunting but I'd encourage you to stay home and enjoy the time with the little one. Those first few days are pretty amazing and I think its a good time to start soaking up parenthood. I couldn't have imagined leaving my wife and baby after only a day or two to go hunting. There is plenty of time for that but you will only get this chance once in your life so soak it up and enjoy it.

Congrats! Plenty of deer seasons to come...you'll live missing one.

Too bad it isn't like the old days... When my mom was pregnant with my sister, her doctor induced her a few days early so he wouldn't have to risk missing duck opener grin

Hope mom and baby are doing well.

No, not our first. We have a 13 year old daughter too. (Nothing like starting over!)grin She was always a "girly" girl all about dolls and kittens growing up but she does do a little fishing, has no interest in hunting but she loves venison so thats good. I am looking forward to teaching my son the things my father taught me growing up, just wish my dad was alive to see him but he passed away before my daughter was born.

My daugher is not quite 6 months old and I'm already trying to ensure she doesn't turn into a girly girl smile. I'm looking forward to her joining me on future hunting and fishing trips.

Funny story...

My wife and I have close friends that were expecting a baby around the same time we were this spring. The guy is one of my best friends and hunting/fishing buddies. Turns out the women delivered the babies on the same day, in the same hospital just a few rooms apart. My daughter was born just a few hours earlier than my friends son. We're both hoping they will be joinging our hunting and fishing trips as soon as they are old enough. I'll tell you the conversations around the campfire sure have changed since the kids were born. The drinking stories and crude jokes have been replaced by stories of the funny things the kids have done or comparing horror stories about teething.

That's too funny. Last September(2012) my hunting/fishing buddy/best-man in my wedding had his daughter born in the same hospital the same day my daughter was born. His folks brought them each a disney princess pole as a present in the hospital. Can't wait to get them out in the field/boat.

Since we're talking about our kids...

My first is a 2.25 year old girl. Up until a few days ago, I didn't even care if I got a son. My daughter has already been with me on about 5 musky outings and witnessed 2 catches, which she talks about all the time, she has been in the boat with tons of walleyes, and she asks me to tell her buck, duck, and musky stories at bed time. She reminds me every time I leave for a day of hunting or fishing, that "when I'm older, I will come with you too!"

And then my SON was born 9 days ago. God, it's going to be fun when these two are ready to man their own rods/guns. Really, it's a total joy having them already. Days missed in the boat or stand or trail aren't really "missed" at all.

Congrats!

My daughter was born a week before the fishing opener. My wife pretty much forced me to go because she knows it something I look forward to every year but it was the worst fishing opener I've ever had. We caught more fish than previous years but my mind was elsewhere. I wanted to be with my little one more than anything in the world so I was miserable. Enjoy your time this year with him and get back after it next year.

She's still the only thing in the whole world that can keep me from doing something I've got my mind set on doing. Last year on the last day of archery I was all dressed and about to walk out the door. She came up and gave me a hug and asked if I would just stay home and play Barbies with her. Off come the layers and I played some barbies. I'm going to be in trouble when she gets older.
