Ponder for Freeman

Why not do an even up trade...Ponder for Freeman.

Send Ponder back to Florida. We get a guy who's being run out of Tampa.

Freeman is the better QB between the two...draft another QB in the 1st round next year and let's roll.

There are a couple reasons this isn't going to work.

For a trade to work the 2nd team in the trade needs to want the player you have to offer. What makes you think anyone would want Ponder at this point?

Even if Tampa Bay did want Ponder why would we want Freeman? Right now he has the worst QB rating in the NFL. Also over his career Freeman has a lower completion percentage than Ponder. If we don't want Ponder because he's inaccurate why would we want Freeman who seems to be even less accurate?

Also if your plan is to draft a QB then why trade Ponder for a young QB who you don't plan to be your future? If you want to draft a QB and you think Ponder has trade value then trade Ponder for draft picks or another position of need.

After seeing his interview yesterday on ESPN I'm guessing there isn't a team out there that would want Freeman.

How many times do you see a QB get benched and then not even allowed to be on the sideline during the game? Sounds like Freeman was listed as the 3rd QB for the game but was told to watch the game from a suite at the stadium.

Not sure what's going on down in Tampa but Freeman is not coming out looking very good in all of it.

Agree with Biff, junk for junk. As long as the defense is giving up 30 points a game it doesn't matter who is at Q.B. The offense is scoring enough points to win , the defense is giving up too much yardage and points.

I think it shows how bad things got in Tampa. The story I read last night said they called every team in the league trying to trade him and couldn't get anyone to offer anything for him.

I'm not sure what the issues are but they has to be a lot of behind the scenes drama with his guy for a team to be willing to just dump him like that.

Why would any team trade for him when his release was eminent. Tampa totally shot them selves in the foot with how they as an organization handled this situation.

no doubt...why trade when you can just wait for his release and birng him in for a tryout. Obviously Freeman has something to do with what happened but the coach for TB is a loser and won't be in the league much longer either if he makes it through the season....

The situation certainly escalated rapidly in Tampa. Now that he's free to sign with anybody, I think it would be a mistake for the Vikings to not pursue him.

Replace MBT with Freeman and still draft a QB next spring. Let them all battle it out for the starting spot next year.

IMO, you keep doing whatever possible to find your QB for the next ten years...you are simply irrelevant if you don't.

I think the only way the vikings sign Freeman is if Cassel or Ponder get hurt and are out for the year. I just don't see a reason to bring him in considering I don't think he's any better than what we've got. Also if you're Freeman why sign with a team where you may only end up as the 3rd string guy? Both Ponder and Cassel have a big advantage over him just in the fact they know the offense so he'd have little chance of starting this year. His only chance would be to sign a multi year deal and go into camp next year competing against 2 vets, MBT, and likely a first round draft pick. You know the top draft pick is making the team so that leaves 4 guys and only 2 spots. The competition could be good for the vikings but its bad if you're Freeman.

If I'm Freeman I'm going to go talk to teams where I have the best chance to start. Jacksonville should be talking a hard look at him. Maybe the Browns now that Hoyer is out for the season or possibly Buffalo depending on how EJ Manuels injury turns out.

By almost everyone's opinion of Freeman, he is an upgrade over our top two QB's. There are what, 35 pages of Ponder bashing in another thread on here...everyone says Cassel is "o.k." but not the future. The reason I started this thread and was for a trade for Freeman was that PONDER WOULD NO LONGER BE A VIKING!! Ponder has to leave before you can start over again...he's their "draft baby". Freeman is a better QB than Ponder/Cassel...I'm not saying he'd be the future of the Vikes but at least it would have been a first step in that direction.

Jags are on pace to get Teddy Bridgewater...why would they want to upgrade now and ruin that chance.

I just went back over and reread the thread and i'd say the exact opposite is true based on the opinions I've read.

The thing that bothers me most about Freeman is that over their respective careers Ponder is the more accurate QB. That doesn't speak very well to Freeman's ability.

Vikings are 6th in the NFL in scoring. Q.B. is not their problem, it's their defense that is giving up way too much yardage and points. You want to improve something? fix the defense. Freeman is not a franchise Q.B., he had one good year and everybody makes him out to be this great Q.B. Is he better than Ponder? who isn't. Would he make a drastic difference in the win loss record for the Vikes? I hardly think so.

Everyone almost 100 percent agrees Ponder is not the future...nor is Cassel. I like Cassel, and think he can do a much better job at leading this team.

Take a chance...take a risk...take something!! Freeman has all the tools that everyone wished Ponder has. He's a head-case right now...no doubt about that. Bring him in...let him compete with "our" guys.

Listen closely to the quotes AP and guys like Jennings have to say about our QB situation...they all want Cassel to be the #1...no trust in Ponder at all.

I have no love affair at all with a guy like Freeman...I get what he brings to the table. That being said, I'll take Freeman over Ponder anyday. Ponder just has to go!!!

Straight accross the board everyone agrees Ponder sucks , what sucks more is the time lost that was invested in him. bringing in Freeman right now would be another waste of time IMHO unless the price is right . Unless a QB has Superman qaulities , no QB would help Vikings win when they give up 30+ a game on defense.

One could add that when your defense is on the grass 2/3rds of the game do to bad QB giving up points is bound to happen

however they still put up points enough to win as said earlier.
