cincy plays a very physical style of defense. i'm sure they've also heard the reports that everytime its a pass play peterson stares at who he's supposed to hit, and everytime its a run he stares at favre's back. mckinnie also used to difft stances last week depending on pass/run. can't have that.

on the road, questionable, but i think we take care of business at home.

It should be a dog fight. Cedrick Benson is having one heck of a season and now they've got Larry Johnson to back him up. Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson are a powerful duo. Bet your bacon that Palmer and Marvin Lewis are drooling over every bit of game film from the Warner highlight film on Sunday night.

That all said I think that the Vikings will win this game. I think that the Vikings have more weapons and skill. The Cardinals game should be an asterisk in an otherwise great season for the Vikings. The real issues will be:

1. How well Cincinnati learns from the Cardinals win

2. How well Childress and the Vikings fix the areas that the Cardinals exposed

3. How well the Vikings defense (and team) moves on without EJ Henderson.

I feel sorry for the bengals. The Vikes were embarrased on national tv, I think they come out with a purpose this weekend at home

^ That ^

If you think about it though the 2 games the vikes lost this year came against he existing NFC and AFC champs. Not to bad, They just need to step it up and not get complacent. Nobody thought they were going to be undefeated this year

  • Ochosinco will be too concerned about being fined again

  • Carson Palmer is not a "Dome" QB

  • Travel difficulties due to the recent winter storm will have the Bengals fatigued

  • The loss of Peko in addition to Odom is to much of an impact to the d-line to keep A.P. under 200 yds.

  • Larry Johnson will have another colorful commentary that will be too much of a distraction to his new team

  • Suprise, suprise, Larry Johnson won't block for his QB making him an even easier target for the Vikes.

There's about half-a-dozen excuses to start with...

... You were talking about excuses for Cincy... right?

If the Vikings can't run the ball (and outside of the 4th quarter in the recent blowouts, they can't) It is not looking good for the purple. The Vikes havne't really ran well in a while. I have no problem with the whole pass to open the defense against the run, but Chilli is an [PoorWordUsage]. The Vikes finally figured out there is not a rule against passing on first down, but they botched it by going with an empty backfield and taking away any suprise of the pass. Most of the Vikings running plays are done with 2 or sometimes 3 tight ends on the field and the run is obvious. While the extra blocker is nice, I'd rather see a 3 wide reciever set and drag the defenders downfield and give the RBs a chance to make somebody miss instead of relying on an offensive line that has not done well run blocking. Almost every good run by AP this season has been when he has cut it back against the grain and made a big run out of nothing. Never do we do any misdirection.

This offense is very very predictable. We should all keep a tally going on every plan and guess what they are going to do via the formation. I always do this, and I am right way way too ofen. If an [PoorWordUsage] like me is right, imagine what is going on in the heads of the other teams defensive coordinator. Play action pass once in a while. Misdirection, draws, or running when you have more than 3 WRs in the game is something the Vikings have not done at all. AP cannot run against a 9 man front. Nobody can. Spread the field for once, its not like that formation isnt working for Indy and NO (the 2 teams who run when they have 3 or 4 WRs in the game)

From one of those fancy football sites. The Bengals have the fourth best defense based on total yards allowed per game:

Cincinnati (9-3)

We used to think of offense when we talked about the Bengals because of QB Carson Palmer and WR Chad Ochocinco, but this is a different Bengals team. They use a ball-control attack on offense with RB Cedric Benson, and their defense is the best unit in the AFC North. They have the ability to pressure the QB and have two of the most underrated corners in the league in Jonathan Joseph and Leon Hall. The loss of DE Antwan Odom to an injury was supposed to kill this unit early in the season, but from my perspective, it’s gotten better since the DE went down, as guys like Jonathan Fanene have stepped up and produced. The thing about Mike Zimmer’s defense is that it’s underappreciated, isn’t pretty and doesn’t have the big names. But it stops the run with that front four and can run with receivers in the secondary. Sounds like a solid December defense to me. But do the Bengals have a dominant playmaker?

The Vikings "can't run the ball," yet they're exactly 12 yards from being in the top-10 for team rushing. And AD has 1,000+ yards and what, 13 TD? Funny where people get their ideas.

Cinci is a dangerous team that has beaten some very solid teams on the road. I hope Winfield gets back to help contain the passing game, and I hope Chilly is more aggressive with his playcalling early in the game.

MN 24 Cincinnati 20

I've been a vikings fan since 69, the year of their first bowl. I am convinced they are the NFL's equivalent of MLB's Chicago cubs. Every year there seems to be "something" you just can't explain. I remember about 12-15 years ago there were I think four, 4 & 12 teams. What they had in common was each one beat the vikings that year. The Drew Pearson push off, the AZ cardinals miracle finish, 41 doughnut, etc. Now I have learned to expect the worst with this franchise. I'm certainly not bitter about this, it's just the facts. I'll still watch every game I can, but I'm also a realist and don't expect the magical season many people do.

Having said the above, I think our O line has really stunk it up run blocking lately. AD sometimes has no chance at all because there is no hole to hit. I think the loss of Birk is bigger than they expected. Also, the backfield will really be hurting if Winfield & Griffin are out this week like is speculated. I think we will win with the home field, but I really have concerns in the playoffs, as our history indicates.
