There are more big deer like that in there too! My grandfather worked there for 36 years, and said he saw deeer all the time that trumped what most of us see in magazines. My cousin works out there now as a tank driver. He says when they do night runs they will see them with the nightvision. Said its absolutely amazing how many monster bucks are runnign around in there. Problem is, unless you're way back, and are out there enough to finally be in the right place at the right time just to see one, you wont see them because they only come out at night. Ive heard some really great stories from the ol'guy about the deer in there.....I should really apply next year.

Yea, lots of nice bucks in Ripley, and some huge areas of land that are off limits. The deer know it too, and you'll see a lot of them disappear into it on the first morning of hunting up there.

It's worth the trip though. Might not get a shot unless you are lucky, but it's worth trying just to have a good opportunity. Plus if you are the social type you can spend a lot of time just talking with other bow hunters.

4 years ago on the first morning of the hunt on my first trip to Ripley I was setting up my portable and as I was bringing my bow up with the rope I heard a crashing coming towards me so i brought it up as quick as I could and tried getting an arrow knocked. I could see the deer coming at me now at about 20 yards and closing in FAST, well before I could get my release attached I had one of the biggest bucks i've ever seen in stand or not looking at me from directly below. He got out of there as quick as he came once he made me. As near as I could figure he thought I was another buck roughing up his territory when I was russling around setting up my stand. I seen a few dandy's in stand that day but none other were in range. Be ready and good luck!!

First hunt at Ripley is the 15th and 16th of October!

How can this deer be from Ripley?

A friend of mine said that deer was shot in Wisconsin!

Actually the hunt did start yesterday (15th). It has almost always landed on MEA for school kids. I wored there for many years and witnessed first hand some brutes! Wouldnt suprise me if he was harvested there. I do see a license on the antlers too and its blue like MN.

I talked to Scott last night about the deer, he is my good buddy. 32 scorable points it was a 44 yard shot quartering away and he dropped it in his tracks. entered by the spin and went through the lungs. Left Ripley ASAP, and dropped it off to get mounted and then headed right back to ripley...

WOW, buck of a life time!

ALL-IN

"already getting a lot of buzz and no doubt will be plastered all over the place once the word gets out. Buck was taken at Camp Ripley this morning by Scott ----- of South Haven, and was one of the first deer registered today. 32 points (yes, that correct I verified it)! Beats the 30 pointer taken in Wisc earlier this fall..."

"This deer was not that old. Inspection of the teeth suggests the deer was about 5 years old +/-. Weighed in at 192 pounds."

This was taken from an e-mail sent by Beau Liddell, DNR area wildlife manager in Little Falls, yesterday.
