The secret word was a word that you would write on a peice of paper and put it in the picture of the fish on the measure board. It was so people couldn't put a pic of a huge bass and claim they caught it for the challenge.

What I liked about the "secret word" competitions was that it was a way to be involved with your fellow FM members, without sacraficing anything. You didn't have to commit to a certain event, and if you happen to be out and get into a decent bass, well then you try and get bragging rights come Monday. And if you weren't able to get out over the weekend, you didn't feel like you missed out on anything besides being on the water.

Hiya -

I think we should have a Snoopy Rod tournament.

The rules are simple - go buy a kid's fishing combo, and fish with it, as-is, out of the box. Any terminal tackle is fair game, but you can't modify the rod or reel, or change the line. The combo has to be no more than 4 feet long (no fair buying a 2-piece Shakespeare spinning combo) and has to be related to some kids character. Way back when it was Hot Wheels or Snoopy, but these days I suppose it could be Sponge Bob, Dora, or Diego too. Maybe even Barbie Princess.

Entry is a photo of the fish, with the rod/reel combo visible in the photo. Biggest fish on approved gear wins...I dunno - eternal fame and glory or something.

Years ago we had a Snoopy Rod tournament with the staff at Camp Fish. To this day it's still the funnest tournament I've ever fished.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

I agree, the secret word deal was fun. I only posted one of the weeks, but I sure enjoyed seeing everyone keep track of their largest and it really got more people involved posting I think than usual. Gives the average joe something more to brag about sometimes too! And that ALWAYS feels good. I say we keep that going again this year. Maybe not every week, but fairly often. Thanks a ton to everyone helping keep those threads going last fall.

My kid would definately love to fish Mille lacs for smallmouth with a Mille lacs bass expert. Of course I would have to go with to carry his gear.

I think this could be out of control for the guys that have all the money to get the high end rods.

Lol, I'm all for it RK. I'll use my little sister's old 3 foo pink and purple spincast. I don't know what it was about that rod but it could cast a bobber just as far as a full size rod. Hook-sets could be a problem, better use a straight retreive bait as with a low retrieve rate and short rod you'll never pick up the slack in time.
