TonkaBass
Just for conversation, how many rods do you guys have in your boat? I for one use 14 at the present time, which is actually way more than enough already, but I will probably addd some more this winter. Out of those 2 are crankbait, 4 spinning, 2 flipping sticks, 6 more general purpose baitcasters.
CarlWBL
1 Heavy Flippin stick w/ Braid1 Flippin/Jig stick w/ 20lb flouro2 Crankbait/topwater 1 Undecided-as I just got the reel for christmas and need to buy a rod. 1 Spinning reel set with drop shot2 multi purpose spinning reels1 ultra light set up for skipping wacky rigged plastics on 6ft rod. Deitz Dittrich
Depends on the season, and if its for fun or a tournament.. but I will have as many as 25 in my boat at a time.
jwhjr
3 or 4, but I don't have room for any more.
ikeslayer
i never have more than 10 any more than that and you are just using your boat as a warehouse or you are trying to hide some from your wife.
Ralph Wiggum
Generally between 4 and 8, depending upon the situation.
frogtosser
14 to 18 depending who is with and where I am fishing
Cecil
I would say 20-25 depending on bite and lake. If I'm on a lake like Minnetonka I will have them all. If I go to Rainy or somewhere like that it will be a lot less since there is really only one species. 5 Spinning4 Flipping10+ Other baitcasters

grab the net
In the boat at any time it would average around 15-18, but some of those are panfish rigs. I find myself getting caught up in the "technique specific" rage. Think many rigs do just fine for crossing back and forth from technique to technique. Just another marketing ploy for us to buy more and more expensive rigs. On any given day the average guy is going to be fishing his strength or favorite way. The rest of the rods on the deck or in the locker are just window dressing.

RK
Hiya - Cleaning out my rod lockers in the fall is really pretty embarrassing. By the end of the season I have rods for 4 or 5 different species squirreled away. With my boat I have TONS of rod storage though, so I can kind of get away with it. Plus the BOSS has her rods in the boat besides so I have doubles of some things... I think last fall I yanked almost 30 rods out of the boat. Between bass, walleyes, muskies, panfish, plus rods for 3 kids - it adds up in a hurry... It varies by time of year too. Some rods I don't carry all the time. But just the bass stuff: - 2 smallie grub/jigworm rods (7'6" ML spinning rods, 6 lb mono) - Smallie tube rod (7' M spinning, 8 lb copoly) - Jigworm rod for largemouths (6'6" MH spinning, 8 lb copoly) - Jerkbait rod (7' M spinning with braid) - Drop-shot rod (6'9" ML spinning, 6 lb fluoro) - Smallie crankbait rod (7'6" ML baitcaster 10 lb fluoro) - C-rig/swim jig rod (7' H casting, 15lb copoly) - Smallie jig & pig/football head rod (7' MH casting 12 lb fluoro) - Pitching rod (6'9" H baitcasting, 20 lb fluoro) - Spinnerbait/buzzbait rod (6'10" MH, 15 lb mono) - Crankbait rod (7' MH casting, 12lb fluoro) - Big crankbait rod - DT16s and stuff - (7'11" MH, 20lb braid) - A flipping stick or two - (usually one with braid one with fluoro) Really not as bad as it looks, honest. Tell you what though - rod sleeves are a lifesaver Cheers, Rob Kimm
Deitz Dittrich
I'll ditto that Rob, Rod Slicks are sanity savers!
TonkaBass
I totally agree, last year I bought enough rod slicks for all my rods. Well worth the price you pay for something that will last forever!
Craigums
They just keep the rods untangled right?
polarsusd81
RK what kind of boat do you have that you can stuff 30+ rods it, jeez. I have only a small 14' lund and 90% of the time have a second person in the boat with me. I generally limit myself to 5 or 6.6'-6" MH F baitcaster used for frogs and plastics6'-0" M M baitcaster for spinnerbaits and lipless cranks7'-0" MH M glass baitcaster for crankin6'-6" M MF spinning for jerkbaits and stickworms7'-2" ML F spinning for dropshots and light plastics
Juan Grande
Yeah, you must have to have a bass boat with lots of lockers and deck space for 18-25 rods. I've been slowly adding one per year and am up to about 6 rods that I bring out. If I bring another guy out with me, the boat gets crowded/cluttered in a hurry. I have a 17' Lund Explorer so I wouldn't call it a small boat. Could use more rod storage though...
