What Would you Never Hunt?

A recent topic on this board got me thinking - "What animal would you not hunt (legalyly)because you have personal judgements against it?

Personally I would not want to ever hunt an elephant. I saw a hunt of television and thought - why would anyone want to hunt an elephant???

Doves--, just don't see the need to shoot them for what meat you get out of them. I know they fly fast this way and that way and would be challenging, but so do crows and clay pigeons. Doves are fun to watch and listen too.

I was watching jim zumbro outdoors on the outdoor channel the other night and they were hunting buffalo (if you call that hunting) on a fenced in buffalo ranch in south dakota, the guys just walked up to the buffalo within ike 50 yds and just started dropping them. now how fair is that?

anyway to get back on topic i would never hunt a wolf, i've just always had a facination with these creatures. of course if one wanted to kill me then ya no problem i'd drop it in its tracks.

I have heard hunting truly free ranging buffalo isn't so easy, especially with a bow. That would be a blast. I read an article in Petersen's Bowhunting where a guy bought a cow tag on a Dakota indian reservation and it was tough going getting close enough, not to mention relatively dangerous. But any animal fenced in would be kind of pointless to me. Cheaper to just buy some buffalo meat!

Also, been thinking about a bear hunt this fall and you'd be amazed at my co-workers opinions. They're not against it or hunting, they just ask me, "What's the point? You dump a bunch of old donuts on the ground and take your pick of bear. No sport to it."

I don't feel as strongly about it but I have questioned the method. Still, I will never criticize another hunter doing something legal and have not hunted bear. So I can't speak to the appropriate methods.

I dunno about the bear baiting. Not too much different than putting out a deer feeder, mineral licks, apples, etc. is it?

I guess for me, the limit(s) more or less anything merely to say I had or just for the hide/mount...

I have always had a dream of going and bowhunting penguins, was pretty upset when i found out that Antarctica doesnt allow weapons of any kind (might be looking at doing an internship there for 6 months when i am done with college) but found out later that there are penguins in South Africa, so i may be looking into that.

Yup, me too, nothing in a fence. Regardless if it is 200 acres or 2000 acres, it is still an unfair advantage that I am not willing to have! Fair game...no sloth hunting here ooo.gif! Bear to, been there and done that and have no further desire to do it again!

Sandhill Cranes. I don't get why people hunt them.

Most African game except the antelope species. I'd love to hunt African antelope some day.

Anything over bait. No sport in that in my estimation.

Anything fenced in. No sport there either.

This is an interesting topic. I've always said that I'd never hunt any species that is pretty rare, or something really majestic.

I hunt Black Bear only because there are so many of them, and we need to help manage their population so they don't become a nuisance. I don't think I'd ever pull the trigger on a Polar Bear, Grizzly Bear, or Kodiak Bear.

Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Cougar - it's probably just me, but I think these animals are just to rare, and cool to just shoot. It would be sad to see a Giraffe be shot too.

Sometimes I feel remorse after harvesting various creatures, but I know that the good Lord made them for us to have dominion over, and use for sustenance. When David was wandering, starving in the wilderness he was in fear of the Lord for taking the life of His animals. God told him to take the animals and use them for food.
