Your Biggest 'Eye?

Well I love this topic cause I have a crazy addiction to catching big walleyes. Last year my fishing buddy and I managed to catch 8 walleyes over 9 lbs. in 3 days. It was the time of my life.

I had the chance to net this monster. It was pushing 34" and didn't have a scale with but tally up the weight yourself. Yes he is holding it out quite a bit but this is a true Minnesota Moster Walleye. She is still swiming and I couldn't imaging catching that thing full of spawn.

My personal best was 3 walters over 29" in 4 hours. It was ridiculous.

I had to throw this one in also. The healthiest looking big walleye I have ever seen.

YES THAT IS THE 27" MARK SHOWING BEFORE THE TALE.

32" Rainy River right in front of Sportsman's in October 2000. I also caught a 28, 27 & two 26's the same day. This day not only produced my biggest W, but also has been my best day ever for avg size. My fishing partner had similar results. When push off the dock you just never know what might happen.

A 30" and a 29" both while targeting bass. One while fishing a weedline with a jig-n-pig, the other while pitching a Texas-rigged craw into a tree on a river backwater. I don't think I've broke the 24" mark actually walleye fishing.

My biggest came off a wing dam on the missippi. I never felt it actually hit as I was using a 3 way rig. I thought I was snagged and started jerking my rod around. It was then that I noticed my line was moving up river. I then started fighting the fish back to the boat. As the river was pretty dingy at that time in July I did not know what it was till it surfaced. Holy Cow, was what I thought when she showed herself. I netted her and stared in amazement. She was released shortly after. 31 inches, did not have a scale for the weight.

Just got back from Erie last week. We fished 5 days and had 4 fish between 30" and 32", a couple more that were right at 30", and another 10 that were over 29". Fun trip.

A few years back I got a 31" on Mille Lacs (meaning I netted it for my wife). The biggest I've caught in MN has been a 28.5" from Mille Lacs.

In the spring flood of 92' on pool 2 we got 12 fish 30"+. My largest to date is 33". 92' was by far the best year for the river. I have caught lots of fish over 28", and more than my fair share of 30" fish, most from pool 2, but some from other hennepin county lakes... my largest walleye out of hennepin county was on Millacs at just under 28", and quite a few in the mid 20" range.

I dont target walleyes too much anymore.. maybe 5 days a year.. I discovered real fish... Catfish!

31.5", 11 lbs. 11 oz., Out of Mille lacs about 10 hours before our Thanksgiving meal. When the dust settled after our meal, I felt like they looked, pregnant. We got two over 11.5 lbs.

fishinmagician, cripes thats a huge fish your buddy is holding, that would feed 16 people....just kidding.

Well for me it is 3 fish at 32". The first one came up on the SAG 7 years ago and only weighed 8.5#. The next one came last summer up in Manitoba and weighed 11# even, one of five fish over 28", then in Feb. I caught a beauty through the ice of Lil-Bay-Denoc that came in at 12.4#. Many great memories.

31" and 10#, the only large walleye I have kept and put onthe wall. It was special because it was through the ice on the lake I grew up on. Right out in front of my parents house on the lake - 200 feet from their shore. 15 feet of water on a fathead under a tipup. Their was only 4 inches of ice and it was crystal clear and no snow cover. I caught that one at midnight - but earlier in the day caught 4 from 5 to 8 pounds and lost one as big as the 10 pounder..it was an awesome evening because the lakewater was crytal clear too and you could see the big fish uder the ice as they were fighting and coming up to the hole - almost like watching them through a plate glass window or a television set - pretty cool.

i have caught many in the 27" range. my personal best was 9# 29". thru the ice. 2:45 in the morning valentines day 5 years ago, on my favorite local lake. my dad's is a perfect fall 30" that went 10#, on the same lake. both are hanging on the wall, sorry but i just could not release mine. it hit the same line same hole 4 times that week and all 5 times between 2:45 and 3am broke off four nites before it finally came up and still had three of the four pervious hooks in it. go figger. my dads came from two nites of fishing opening weekend of deer hunting almost 20 years ago. and was included in two limits of 22- 26 inch fish and this was his bonus fish. and catch and release was not as prevelant as it is today. we now do not keep anything over 22inches. ... paul ps i still hope to top his, as i know that the are many larger than that in this lake but will measure and photo and have a replica made this time

I feel like anytime I talk about big walleyes or even bring the thought of it up the jinx is upon me. I say that because each year I talk about it before opener, I never seem to land any HUGE walleyes. Lots of 20-26" walleyes, but nothing big.

One of my biggest walleyes was caught during the summer you couldn't keep walleyes off your hook on Mille Lac's. Got a skinny 28" walleye that summer of a unknown flat.

My other biggest walleye, 28" as well, was caught during the early season on the Rainy River. When we netted her, I sure thought it was a 30"! But she was a beauty nonetheless!

I've got opener and then a big trip to Canada this summer to try and break my personal best. Got my fingers crossed that I do get one since I already talked about it for the year.

I have hooked numerous state record walleyes, but unfortunately the line broke before I got to see them. grin.gif

I have 7 fish off the pond between 28 and 29 inches. The digital said 10.2 lbs. on my biggest. I just can't break that mark 29" mark. I want a 30 incher, but more importantly a 12 lber out of Mille Lacs. I also have a small favorite lake that I just want to catch a 5 pounder out of.

I am forcasting a big change for the future. My Uncle bought a cabin on Lake of the Woods and he expects me come up there a lot. I am predicting many fish over 30" to come.

I got a 30.5 on open water during the full moon in june and a 29.5 thru the ice on lake of the woods. all released.Too many under 30 that I don,t count. The best I ever had in my boat was a buddy released 6 all between 27 and 29 in about a 5 hour span. If you did not have a green hook they would not bite and I had the misfortune of having a bad batch of Trilene that would break with 1 pound eyes.
