  1. Will do when I get a chance. I got your number down.
  2. Todd, How are you following the Hillman method? Did you buy one or several of his DVDs? I am beginning the process of finding another dog. This one will be trained and handled by my son (16 years old). It will be far easier for him to do this off a program instead of me offering coaching that is sometimes good and sometimes not. If you are open for a chat, send me an email at ray.esboldt at gmail dot com.
  3. Check out the Collar Clinic. Not sure if all e-collars have replaceable batteries, but if they are replaceable, this place probably has it.
  4. I will agree with the notion of staying away from rescues. If you had a large amount of experience training dogs, you may be able to make one into something good, but I have not heard of a lot of success stories. I'll throw my plug in for training groups. It changed my life (as far as dogs go). You'll learn more about training your dog there than anywhere else. And, if you are willing to follow a book or DVD program, the group can help you work through the problems that will arise. If you have any questions about a training group, let me know at bornofice at yahoo dot com.
  5. Ken, Speaking of NAHRA, if you're interested, we would love to have a guy like you in our club (Four Points Retriever Club - NAHRA affiliated). We train Thursday nights at Kelly Farms. You may be a few weeks from that type of training, but keep it in mind. Let me know if you're interested when the time comes.
  6. Hope everyone is getting out to train now. Let me know if you are interested in the informal test detailed above. It will be worth your time.
  7. Sax, Shoot me an email if you have any questions.
  8. All, We have had discussions on this forum in the past led by Todd and Tyler on the merits of training our hunting dogs with the goal of having them pass a hunt test. This doesn't necessarily mean that you have to run your dog in a test, you're really training a dog that performs at its peak potential in the field as well a test. Todd and Tyler have also promoted the notion of joining a dog training club. Those that are in a club know that you don't just end up with a better hunting dog, but you end up being a more competent trainer. With that being said, the dog training club I belong to, Four Points Retriever Club, will be running an informal hunt test on April 26 and 27 in Clear Lake, Wisconsin (you can participate on either day or both). Here is the information for this event: http://www.fourpointsrc.org/Forms/FPRC_Handlers_Seminar_2014v2.pdf This test will be informal and include coaching and instruction from our experienced club members who have titled multiple dogs at the Senior level of the NAHRA testing organization. So, if you want to learn more about the benefits of training for a hunt test or just want to tune up for the upcoming season, please consider joining us. If you have further questions, you can contact me directly via email at bornofice at yahoo dot com (you'll need to turn that into a valid email address).
  9. That's pretty funny there, number of licks. I have never met a dog that has had more than a couple of good ideas in their lifetime. With that being the case, I like to keep their bad ideas isolated to a crate.
  10. I have done it with the Showtime. I just can't remember for the life of me how long per pound. I seem to remember I found it online or in the book that came with the thing and shaved two minutes per pound. Anyway, my mother has done several this way and they are a always very good. Set it, but don't forget it.
  11. That will work! I knew I would get the answer here. Thanks.
  12. Those were my options B and C.
  13. Does anyone know of a 12 volt, 1 amp or 2 amp battery charger that can be plugged into your car's power outlet? It would be handy for charging flasher batteries while on the go. I have to to think one exists, but I have yet to find one.
  14. Todd, Remind us again before each trial. Sounds like a fun way to spend a day. Thanks for sharing.
