The_Duckslayer
A sad story and a picture. This past Sunday I took my best hunting partner hunting for her last time. She just had a blast! She brought back ducks that I know we would not have been able to retreive had she not been there. When the ducks were not flying we played fetch with the training dummy. You see, she was 12 years old last month and incontenance and bad joints had taken there toll on her. Shortly after this picture was taken she went and laid down in the grass. When I came by later she was not able to get up on her own. As much as she tried she just could not do it. We took her to her final visit to the Vet on Monday morning. One of the hardest things that I have ever done but in talking to the vet we know that we did the right thing for her, that cold spell we had sure had her in some pain just going up and down the steps. Sure was not the thing that we wanted to do but, it was the right thing. It was not fair to make her suffer like that just because I wanted to keep her around. (I think that I need a new keyboard the letters on this one are starting to blurr :-( This is Midnite, myself, and my son and the ducks that she brought back to us. There is a huge hole in our life and Lord knows I sure as he11 do miss that lil girl. Many fond memories though. Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo MIDNITE SEPT 1994 - OCT 2 2006 YOU ARE MISSED! cjac
Jimbo, That was a tough post to read, sad for you but also smiling knowing that you sent your girl out in the blind one more time. You know darn well that is what they live for and that's the memory that will live with you. She's still chasing ducks.......that's a given. I like to think there's a giant slew somewhere above that all lost four-legged hunting partners are gathered at! Take care, Chris
The_Duckslayer
Chris, it was even tougher to type up and post! I know that she is now hunting up there somewhere with my dad and I know that they are having a great time. There are now 2 HUGE holes in the duckboat! She was a great dog and I will cherish her memories forever, the same as a lot of you out there do I am sure. Thanks for the kind words! Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo
Tom Wilson
Very sorry to hear that Jim. It looks like she got to go out doing what she loved, and you got the gift of being with her in the blind one last hunt. Time will replace everything but the great memories. Hopefully that time will pass quickly.Tom W

jigging-matt
I was unable to find a picture, but needed a place to post about my beloved Basset Hound, Samantha (Sam) After 14 wonderful years with her, I unfortunately will have to go to the Vet's office here pretty soon and have her put down. Not sure what happened this morning but after the Vet ran some early test he could not say for sure what happened, and I can't stand to see her suffer. Has to be the hardest decision a guy has to make. As soon as I am able to download a picture I will post.
The_Duckslayer
Jig, I am all to familuar with that course of action. It's a tough decesion but has to be made with Sam in mind and not what you want. I would have loved to keep Midnite around for just one more duck season but that would not have been fair to her and after all she did for me in her life I could not do that. It's a tough day to get through that is for sure! With the good memories though Sam will be around forever. Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo
