Ice cleat recommendations?

Without any snow on the lakes so far this season does anyone have any ice cleat recommendations?

I really like YakTrax. I forget that they are even on. They do not grip as good as other spiked cleats, but are much easier to walk in.

Given this years conditions you may want to try Bauer, CCM, or Reebok!

Another vote for Yaks. Like said, not the greatest grip, but you don't slip in them. Easy to walk with.

I usually dont spend my doe on HT stuff, but the ice cleats work for me...

I just got some Kahtoola Micro Spikes and they are amazing! A little pricey, but they go on easily and provide 100% traction on glare ice. Used them up on Mille Lacs last weekend & yesterday pulling my shack out on Minnetonka and they just plain grip!

If you are walking in hard packed snow that has gotten really icy Yaks are the best. They do a great job gripping in those conditions.

On ice they do a good job but i think a spiked cleat will give you better traction on slick ice.

The real advantage in Yaks is that you don't really notice they are on and they don't slip off your boot like some other brands.

During our first trip out this season my buddy had Yak's on and I had a spiked cleat on. On the smooth ice he maybe slipped a little more but still had plenty of traction. I didn't slip really at all but I had a pair of cleats that slipped off occasionaly which can be annoying if you are running for a tip up flag that just went up.

Whatever you do get, I highly recommend getting something that has covers the whole foot, or at least under the heel and main pad of your foot. I hate the ones that only add grip under the main pad, as I am a heel to toe walker and my heel woul slip out ahead of me. And don't even bother with the ones that strap under the bridge of your foot, or with the really cheap ones. The rubber will break in really cold weather.

Icetrekkers Diamond Grip- litte more spendy but well worth it.

Easy to walk in like they aren't even on your boot BUT they also have excellent grip.

They also make a normal chain one that are on par with or better then the Yaks, IMO.

They also fit on my super huge Sascatchewan Pac boot.

I use duenorth traction aids, nice light weight, don't have to struggle to get them on and off and the studs are replaceable.

I like the HT Enterprises® Sure Grip Ice Treads. At $5 a pair you can't beat them.

Ht's Omni Tech Super Stud Sandal Cleats!!!!I saw my mail man wearing a pair of these made by another company several years ago. He said he paid $50 for then. I saw the Ht's that appeared to be the same thing for $16 at FF and bought a pair. They are great!! I can even drive with them on but don't usually do it. I think they are now selling for $20 at FF. They have replaceable cleats and I haven't even worn them down enough to replace them.

What ever you do, buy something because if you slip and drop the crack on the ice you're going to feel it.

I agree 100%. I have tried many and these babies grip well on solid ice. MIne are a bit different style with alot of screw looking spikes on the bottom and they velcro in the front to hold them on.

Stabilicers $40 Replaceable sheet metal screws. I've had my pair for 14 years now. Yax Tracks and Stabilicers break down in no time. You get wht you pay for on this one.

I lost a set of Yak Trax, got tired of fighting to get others on. Went to hardware store purchased a couple dollars worth of #8 3/8 hex head sheet metal screws and inserted 7 of them in on the lugs. Result 3 years of worry free travel on ice with never a slip and obviously do not wear them around my home,only use them ice fishing.

I have had my stabilicers for going on 5 years and never lost a spike or needed to replace any and I use mine a fair amount.
