Deer vs Coyote warning, not pretty

Recommended Posts

It had to have been injured previously. look at the back left leg and it looks to bent in alot further than the right...maybe i am off but something happened to that deer prior to meeting those yotes

Those yotes looked mighty thin. I have to believe they wouldn't be able to take on a healthy buck of that size but you just never know. I am surprised there was as much left of it as there was after the feast. Those darn things can really do a number on a deer overnight. Usually not much left but skin, bones, maybe a lower front leg and the skull after a night of feeding.

who knows if injured or not. I know they are weaker that time of the year. looks like maybe just 2 smaller yotes. 5 or 6 healthy full grown yotes and it would have pretty much dissappeared. bummer for the buck anyways.

If you do a search of "Incredible Whitetail Deer Pictures: Coyotes Kill Buck" you'll find a slide show with many more pics. I'd post a link, but that sight also has a forum, so it's against this forum's policy.

Also, listening recently to an area park's Wildlife Manager some coyote packs figure out how to take down healthy adult deer.

Usually a mature buck or any deer that time of year could out run or fend a coyote and you video experts tell me why it all took place in front of a trail camera, that makes it more weird yet. Is this for real? Lot of fake cougar pictures were floating around last year with numerous cats in one photo.

who knows why it took place right in front of the camera laker1. maybe fake, maybe real. just got the pics today and thought wow, pretty cool. I'm sure stuff like this happens more than we know in the great outdoors. The earth is Not my mother but she sure can be cruel. LOL

I'm sure this sort of thing happen more than we would like to imagine but thats how it works with nature

+1. Sometimes our pre-conceived notions of the way things "should be", don't really fit with what happens in the real world.

To me it looks like the buck has a wound on each side just in front of the hind legs. They could be from the coyotes but they look smaller than bites.

Yots and Wolves will slowly wear down their prey by taking turns biting at their hind quarters during the chase. They also take turns during the chase so others can rest to keep up the attack on their prey wearing it down so it cannot rest. That is why the back end is so chewed up, it's the very end of the chase. wink

Kinda cool with this on the trail camera but I would say not for the buck. Mother nature at work I guess.

I am sure a pack of coyotes could take a deer down and even a nicer buck.

If they worked on him long enough, there is no doubt in my mond they could wear him down.

I had some pics of 7 yotes in one photo on the trail camera. Could not believe I got that many in one shot but the angle must have been perfect. I might guess there could have been 5-6 after that buck.

If true, "if" true, then no deer is safe really and then for those saying a wolf will "only" take out weak or sick deer..............Truth is I have a ton of coyotes in the area and this was the worst fawn crop I've ever seen in 30 years, actually not seen or tcamed. Whenever you get an e-mail like this though you must wonder why didn't you get it back in August, it's 4 months old already.

Don't any of you guys get Deer & Deer Hunting Magazine? It's in the double issue that was in my mailbox on Thursday or Friday I think. I believe there were 41 pics in the magazine.

The guy that submitted the pics said his theory was they chased it a long ways & the spot where the camera was is the only somewhat open area in that immediate area where the brush isn't super thick. He figured it maybe stopped there to fight back as it couldn't out run them or was too tired whatever. If one dog stays on the same deer all day it can walk it to death. A person can too, if they can stay on it, but usually it gives them the slip. The guy figures there's for sure at least 4 different coyotes. I think one of the pics had two coyotes & two more sets of eyes out in the dark.
