How long do you sit?

I usually hunt 1st weekend (opener) and I take monday off so I sit all day dark till dark sat, sun, then monday. Then make the long 4 hour drive home. I'm usually fairly selective sat and sunday. Come monday I'll harvest a doe or a younger buck. These last few years I've shot a nice 9, a decent 8, nothing(too selective n passed on a basket 6 on sunday. Then last year i shot a small 4 on monday. just wondering how many guys really sit all day. It can be mentally challenging yet rewarding when you snuff one around noon or 2 when most are crusing around or eating lunch. I probably could hunt again following weekend but I'm thinking the boss (wife) might frown upon it.

I like to get to my stand when it is dark and stay until dark. If the weather is windy or wet I might get down and do some still hunting. I never leave the woods, though. Almost all of the deer I've shot in the last 5 or 6 years have come within 2 hours on either side of noon.

Opening weekend I am in the tree an hour before sunrise, sit all day, leave at dark. If it's 60 degrees, like a few recent openers, I may still hunt as most deer are not moving; even at mid-day. Otherwise, last opening weekend, I sat all weekend, saw 11 bucks over two days.

Odonata, Do you hunt around Carlton? I used to hang out there about 15 or so years ago from time to time. You recognize the last name Soukkala? Never hunted there but I did see an ungodly number of deer near J.Cook park. That place was infested.

I like to hunt all day but it is not easy so I pick and choose my days. Opening weekend is a must for me, after that I will come in for lunch until I start to see more action in the woods, then its back to an all day sit. Even on the days I come in for lunch I am alwasy sure to sit until at least 1:00 to try and catch any mid-day action.

Dark till dark on opening day, I usually get only the morning the second day and then head home. My last 2 bucks were shot around 11:30 and 1:00, so you definately want to be out there at the noon hour on the opener. IMO people that take that lunch break are wasting some valuable time that could be spent on the stand.

I'm one of those that can't sit all day. I'll go bananas. I can usually hang on for about 2 or 3 hours and then I've got to move around. Maybe I'm afraid if I sit too still for too long, someone will have to bring me home in the spring when I thaw out again. grin Seriously though, I just get too stiff and too sleepy if I sit too long.

I have a hard time also sitting in one place too long. I just get bored. I have built 3 stand now that are enclosed with heaters to help but I just get restless... Opener I can sit longer but after that I will sit 2-3 hours and then move to another stand.

Yes, I hunt in the Wrenshall area. Have lived here for over 25 years; I know many Soukkala's; most are related! Jay Cooke is a haven for big bucks....smart buggers.

Opening weekend in North Dakota, I hunt almost all of the day but for an hour break around noon.

After the rut begins, I stay from sunrise to sunset. Pretty easy for me in an enclosed, heated box. I cover a large alfalfa field and wait for those bucks to start to chase.

many times I take a few hunting magazines along and I also have a radio in the box.

If I wanted, I could sleep there also.

I sit from sunup to sundown. I absolutely love it. Nothing better than a man being able to sit on God's great creation, with only his thoughts and nature for company. Besides, I've killed several deer when most people would be walking back to the truck for lunch...
