Nice 8.. Score 130-140??

Swap Buck

I don't think he is more than 3-1/2, judging by the trim stomach line, a less than fully swelled neck, and relatively thin girth to the antlers. If I were going for a B&C I would let him go and wait for another. But, since I am not going for a B&C buck, I'd absolutely take him.

nice buck without a doubt but I am with musky hunter he is only 3 1/2 yrs old I dont think he will go much over 130 if that. Not much for circumfrence and does not appear to be real wide. Just my opinion. Its really up to what your after as to weather you take him or not. I would let him walk and if you chose to take him I would give you a pat on the back and tell you congrats!

I would not pass on him, he is a NICE 8 point. He will go in the 130's, how high, hard to say. He isn't very wide, but I think his mass measurement will be better than some suspect. He has great tine length. I will go on a limb and say he will gross somewhere between 135 and 140.

Great tine length and deceptive main beam length will push him into the upper 30's.

As to shooting him, thats a question only you can answer. My advice in making that decision is to decide if your goals are to shoot "good" deer or "great" deer scoring wise? Or maybe you are looking for mature bucks of a certain age? If age and score aren't the concern, and you want to take what is the buck of a lifetime to many MN hunters, I'd say shoot. If you are trying to shoot the true buck of a lifetime and a mature deer, I'd say "see what he grows into next season". Its my opinion that this deer has even more potential and is still a 4.5 year old (maybe 3.5).

Personally, I'd shoot with a bow, pass with a gun.

Look at the length of those G2's, just for a second, then whap! I don't know where you hunt of course, but for most people to expect anything beyond that very often isn't very realistic. That's a shooter in my book. If you're still unsure then he probably isn't for you.

I'm surprised at the number of people who would pass this buck. I'm with bigbucks on this one. Must be nice to have a prime private honeyhole where you could even consider such a thing.

That right there is the buck of a lifetime for most of us.

Don, I think there would be a large difference between the number of people on the internet who claim they would pass on the buck in the picture vs. the number of people who would pass on that buck if they were in their treestand with the buck at 20 yards and broadside. wink I'm not calling anyone a liar, I'm just saying temptation is great when you're in the field and presented with a good opportunity at a buck like that (or even a smaller buck).

Thanks to all for your input on this deer. Pretty sure that if I see this deer this weekend there will be crosshairs on him ASAP! In all the years we have been hunting this piece of land, I have never seen a deer near as nice as he is. I have taken a few very nice bucks over the years but nothing near as nice as this. What would make me very happy is if some how my father could take this animal. In twenty-two years of hunting together he has yet to take a whitetail. Pretty sure he never will and is just there to be with us, but that is my wish. Also won't be disapointed if I happen to take him : )

Hope you all have a great weekend, great hunting and most of all great memories with great friends.
