One Reason Not to Get Married

So my brother-in-law (who is recently married) and I christened my canoe this past Friday on the Mississipi up in Monticello. He bought it for me for at his church's garage sale and I still hadn't seen it in person up to this point. I get to his house and the canoe is strapped to his car. It's a strange pinkish purple color with old school sparkles in the paint. Now I can see why it was $50.

We get to the launch and are hooking up the deep cycle to the trolling motor. The motor didn't come with wing nuts, but just regular hex nuts so my bro-in-law used a leatherman to tighten them down. All of sudden he jumps back and yelps and I hear this "clink, clink" noise as his wedding band bounces across the pavement.

Somehow his pliars touched the wedding ring as he was tightening the nuts and the current ran up his arm. The ring got so hot that it melted the skin underneath. When he pulled the ring off it took a lot of the skin too. His brand new ring has a hole in it from the jolt too. Kind of a scary moment...

A little Neosporin and band-aid and he was ready to fish. We brought in 4 smallies (15-17 inches) in an hour and a half of fishing.

I almost tore a finger off climbing a ladder once. Since then, I do not wear it any longer. That was almost 30 years ago. My wife would rather have me with all digits than wearing a ring.

I suppose I could place one through my nose and then it would be easier for her to lead me around.

I think we need pics of this pink sparkley canoe!! grin

A buddy of mine was replacing a belt in his truck and wearing a watch (the kind with the stretchy metal band) he reached down and it shorted out with the alternator causing the band to weld itself together and melting to his skin. Needless to say he has a permanent bracelet as a scar on his left wrist.

i reached in on an old corn binder truck, to tighten battery cable. forgetting my ring was on, i hit the ground lug and postive with the wrench on my ring. took a ring cutter and a trip to the er to get the ring out of the skin and muscle. from that point forward it stayed on the dresser until she told me to put it on if we were going out. the place i retired from had a policy against rings and watches simply for this reason. if he is young enough, one would hope it will grow back as the old man i use to work for when i was a kid use to say, knowing darn good and well that there is no growing back of anything. by the way i can think of many other reasons too

I'll take some pics of the canoe and post. It's pretty funny. We went to the license place to get it registered and the conversation went like this:

Lady: What's the registration number?

Me: It doesn't have one.

Lady: Does it have a serial number?

Me: No

Lady: What's the make/model?

Me: It doesn't say.

Lady: What color is it?

Me: Pinkish purple with sparkles

Lady: (snide look) Okay, what year?

Me: No clue, but I would guess pre 1980. Let's go with 1972.

Lady: Normally you'd have to have some proof of sale, but I think it's safe to assume you didn't steal it.

Juan, I saw the ring finger in question. I have some extra battery wing nuts at home, I may have to give your brother in law a set the next time I see him. I do have to give him some credit for sucking it up and getting out after some fish.
