sparcebag
After the seasons first storms, freezing rain. I see few birds (Pheasants). While driving to town I see few,My 2 feeders have no birds,I live on a cattail slew and see a few now & then.Last year they were all around! I'd see flocks on windblown hills in cut corn fields, this year no groups just singles!Did the first weather effect them? Anyone seein any? chub
Guess I'm seeing them. The numbers in our area were down to begin with compared to what they had been sparce. Still some around, just not like they had been. I'm sure they'll get beat up pretty good this winter yet. With good conditions in the spring, they should rebound.I even saw probably a couple hundred mallards a week ago in Kandiyohi county.... BLACKJACK
I'm seeing less Couple weeks ago I was counting 10-12 at my feeder in the morning, this weekend it was a max of 2. Hopefully it was an aberation, with a cattail slough and feeder, they should have been able to survive. Been seeing some on 5, close to town and also by the Florida sloughs, more on the roads though since only the hilltops have been blown off. We need a January thaw!!! bigbucks
I've been seeing some, but so far not as many as last winter. There's a field on my drive to work that had 6 in yesterday, I could see 5 today.
kobear
I'm hoping they are holding tight like the Turkeys. I see 20 some turkeys every day, they haven't moved 200 yards in the last three weeks.Last January we had 20-30+ pheasants out in the fields within 1 mile of us daily this years max January count is 11 with birds only apparent in 1/4 of the areas they were last year. crothmeier
i had to drive for work two weekends ago from southern mn up to morris, down thru lqp and canby. I bet i saw 500+ birds out that day scratching in fields. I cant remember ever seeing that many in one day. i think they are doing well. fishinchicks
We have a rooster and his harem living in our grove this year. We see them regularly. They are hanging pretty close to the grove and the roadside where they are gathering grit. Typically, they would be across the field in the cattails. NWBuck
I drive a bus route every morning here in NW Iowa, and although I am seeing some birds, I have no doubt we've lost some already. What concerns me most is that the birds I'm seeing are predominantly roosters.

Northland Sportsman
I had about 8-10 mixed roosters/hens in my crab apple tree over the weekend. Kind of funny to see them all in a tree like that but good to see they are finding food!
Barony
Saw 40-50 between Hancock and Benson on Sat. afternoon eating grit alongside the road around 4. I didn't see any N of Morris though (where I hunt).
Eric Wettschreck
During my morning commute to work, I don't see any. Most likely cuz it's at 5 in the am. On the drive home I see quite a few of them scratching in the fields.Added bonus- The other day I saw the first covey of Huns I've seen in a couple of years. That was nice to see. BLACKJACK
The last couple of nice days I've been seeing quite a few pheasants, some along the roads but most in the fields scratching on the bare ground. Hopefully after this weekend cold spell we can get another thaw to open up more bare ground.

dukhnt
Traveled to Atwater yesterday morning from Hutchinson. Probably saw about a hundred pheasants. Most of them were around the Lake Elizabeth area.
lovebigbluegills
I've seen some sharptails on the way to work in the mornings--various sized groups 10-30 birds. While out looking for sheds, I haven't seen any ruffed grouse, but there are tracks galore, and plenty of "burrows" in the snow from them. Dave S
I saw 1 today about 5 miles from home. They've been pretty scarce lately even with the exposed black dirt in the fields.
creepworm
I drove from glencoe to willmar friday morning and saw hundreds and hundreds of birds. They were all over. Good to see because I have seen very few otherwise. Also saw 3 coyotes just south of Wilmar
