Deadliest Catch

Last nights show did prove one thing to me though: Discovery Channel definitely over-dramatizes a couple things. Last week, the Cornelia Marie and Captain Murray couldn't find crab and were not going to make a dime. In the end, yes they had a long season, but the boat takes in $2 million plus and $50K per deckhand. If things were that tight, they never would have left the port and just leased out the shares. Same thing with the Wizard, good money made by all.

The Wizard guys looked shccked to see that Lenny guy quit on them. Seems like a dependable quiet guy.

Agreed double d, they do make it look like they weren't getting any and then they make huge amounts of money. Thought it was funny the guys are down fishing in Mexico while the others are still crabbin'. Though I wasn't sure how that worked as they were they back there when the other ships came in to collect the bet. Maybe the over dramatized that as well.

That's exactly what I was thinking. A couple of weeks ago the Wizard was looking for bait an called on the Northwestern. They showed Sig sitting in his chair acting like he didn't hear the call. So, was he really ignoring the Wizard or was it video footage of Sig zoning out at some other point in time which made it look like it's a cutthroat business and Sig wasn't going to help? I'm thinking there was some video editing going on there and when the call was made Sig was actually downstairs on the can or breaking the seal off his next carton of cigarettes.

That is the beauty of reality TV. The only reality is the actual job itself. Other than that they pretty much give us what they want to show us. It sure makes me tune in every week! I agree that if your making 54,000 a deckhand, your not doing all that bad.

It was sad to see the dead loss dumped overboard from the CornMar. I thought there had to be something that could have been done with it, even at a food shelter or something. I'm sure there are regs on non-fresh food, though, and no way to tell how long each had been dead.

I remember a couple of years ago there being a tank almost FULL of dead loss due to a dead one being thrown in as a joke by a green horn, or something like that. Anyone else remember?

I don't think there is a chance in Hades that Phil will let Murray captain for a long time. Not that Phil could have done much better.

I agree; the totals taken in and the wages paid out were the best on the boats that were made out to have done the worst on TV. Also, what ever happened to that little boat with the Turkish guy on it? I missed some of the meat of a couple of shows.

it was the first seaso i think by that punk kid who thought it was funny everyone on that boat hated one another, they tossed in a dead cod and it killed the tank. Weird to think most of the boats in the start were pretty small boats.

Did they even show a result of that new little boat on the last episode?? Whats it called the Lisa Marie or somthing like that. I don't remember seeing any results as to how much crab they got or how much money they made.

Another thing I was wondering about was the Cornelia Marie's crab count. All season they've been showing them pulling up blanks and then at the end of the show they had one of the largest hauls. ???? Did I miss something?

I agree, was very good to see him back. What's up with Marty leaving? Is he gone for good? Guys been doing it forever, wonder why he left. Also, what's up with the Wizard? Never been a huge fan of Keith and Monty but they do run a tight ship with the crue. I don't get why he took all those pots out and then has a guy on top of them on the bow with 30' seas. Scary scene at the end of the show.

I agree, great show last night. I didn't understand why the Wizard was doing that either. 40 knot winds and they're trying to pull a tarp over the pots? Why didn't they just put the tarp on before they left Dutch?

Great to see Capt. Phil back. I'm sure the stress of spending $100k before he left the dock didn't help his health situation out any.

I was also wondering about the Time Bandit and how they need to cut a guy before next King season. Now they hired a new deckhand? I wonder if they just brought the new guy on for this season only to try and motivate guys like Russ. Andy said it himself that Russ drags a$$ out there. Motivational tactic or could they legitimately fire Russ? He's been on there forever.

Looking forward to next week!!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
