I think I would try Iowa they are really putting out big deer lately. Kansas would be my second choice, but what I really would like to do is hunt saskatchewan huge racks and huge bodies.

I agree i would go to canada but if i had to choose, either Iowa or Wisconsin. Texas puts out big deer but i dont like the way things are run down there lot different then up here where the deer are corn feed and there some real pressure up here.

I believe for size and also sheer numbers, I would go to the Milk river area in Montana. The one year I hunted whitetail there west of Glascow, I shot one nice P&Y and also saw 54 deer the first evening sitting and also the first stand location.

I would also include

2-Saskatchewan

3- Iowa

4-Kansas or Ill.

5- Bufflao county, Wisc. This county has time and time again produced some real monsters. B&C has many entries from there. I hunted there a few years back and spent a few days months in advance of the season lining up a few locations to hunt. If one doesnt mind paying a fee, it will be much easier to find land access.

Any of these locations should get the job done with proper scouting in advance. Land access is also very easy in Montana with their walk in program. Iowa seems to be a bit harder to access land for gun season so, one might consider a archery tag there.

If I were to go to Saskatchawen for a hunt, I would go on a guided hunt to better ones odds.

If what your looking for is a true trophy, it may depend on the method you plan on hunting. Any archery hunt, the early season can be good with less pressure. For gun, I would probably hunt the pre rut or the rut season.

If I had to choose anyplace...I would have to roll with someplace in Canada too. The bucks up there tend to be so much bigger, all around. While in the US, Texas seems to always produce nice bucks too (Rack size), but I'm not particularly excited about shooting a deer pattered around a feeder, such as they do. Plus, when I was done in Texas this winter on my first Hog hunt, nearly all the bucks I seen on mounts, had SKINNY necks. They looked like MN does with antlers. I've never been to Kansas hunting and from what I see pictures of regularly in magazines, newspapers, etc...Kansas appears like the state producing the most and biggest bucks. It seems like that climate there is perfect for growing monster whitetails and the state appears to have did a great job managing their deer quality. For that reason I choose Kansas.

BNS - So many places to hunt, but so little time huh?

if i believe right i think wisconsin produced the most b+c bucks a couple years ago. we were lookin at a magazine such as field and stream, outdoor news, minnesota sportsman, well one of those and i am pretty sure wisconsin was on the top for b+c. i deer hunt in wisconsin and even if they dont have the most ridiculously HUGE deer there are some really really BIG deer there, i shot a nice 8 pointer last year and between our party of 7 we shot 3 nice 8 pointers(including mine) and a very nice 9 pointer. mine was gross scored at just over 100, so not that big but there are LOTS of deer bigger than mine out there.(and it was my first buck grin.gif)

Not sure how many people actually realize this but, Whitetails in texas look much bigger than they actually are. Its like putting a half way decent rack on a an 80lb doe. Of course its going to look bigger than if it was on a 200lb buck. Ive seen alot of mounts that came out of texas, and alot of times they lack the bulky mass that we get up in the northern area of the North America.

I think I would stay here in Iowa but would hunt NE Iowa instead of North Central.

I keep hearing how Iowa is so flat and it's all corn fields. crazy.gifconfused.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

I'd have to pick canada as well. My cousin has a cabin up there, and the bucks they see every year just blow me away. I can't imagine passing on a 120, but they pass on several like that every season. I believe their average is in the 130s.

I'll second the fact that texas is over-rated. As was stated earlier, I would find no joy in shooting a big buck over a feeder. Also, you'll notice that not only is the mass of the deer smaller, but the mass of the racks is often smaller, also. Alot of them score very well, but not very often do they get the forearm-thick bases that alot of other bucks in the midwest get.

I would have to say SEMN, NE Iowa and Western wisconsin in the lower 48 states. But man, if you can stand the cold, the neighbors to the north have some serious Monster deer. It seems there is always a Saskatchewan whitetail on the hunting shows that grosses B.C.

I have hunted Trempeleau Co. wisc. for years and its right next to Buffalo Co. There are big deer there. For me, the two places I'd like to consider would be Southern Iowa or Kansas. I don't think they hold a candle to Canada though.

I think Ontario may be the place. It is overshadowed by Sask. and it is very wild so there may be some monsters lurking in those woods off the beaten path. Second place is anywhere from SE MN, wisconsin area along Mississippii valley to Ill, Iowa. there are some wildlife management areas that may produce.

In the U.S. I'd probably look at Iowa first, Illinois/Wis. second with Kansas proabably third. To go anywhere I'd be up in Saskatchewan. Was up there last Nov. and I'm hooked. Unfortunately I only sat for one day. Saw ~25 deer the first day with 14 of them being bucks. Past on two that where upper 140" to lower 150" and another in the lower 140ish range. I couldn't hold back when my 165incher showed up however. I'm heading back this Nov.

IOWA. Check out the Iowa DNR site, their DNR actually cares about the quality of the bucks and posts all the top scoring bucks on the site. Unless MN hunters do not get our deer scored (deer classic) our top scoring deer barely even crack the list in Iowa, and they don't hunt during the rut. Southeast part of the state is the best, ever watched a show called "gettin' close with Lee and Tiffany." Kansas, Illinois and Kentucky are all really close. If you are willing to pay big money, Alberta and Saskathewan will produce. For half the price check out Ontario, close to home, and if you've never heard of the Dryden buck, check it out, 200 in typicals are awful rare. Good luck.
