How many rods is too many!?!?!?!?!?

My wife has been giving me a hard time about the amount of rods I have. How many do you guys think is too many or how many can you have before the wife starts busting on you? I have 10 spinning, 2 trolling, 3 bait casters, then 4 closed face spinning oufits for my wife and daughter. I feel like you can never have too many - spend less time rigging them and more time fishing. What's your guys thoughts?!

Ask her how many pairs of shoes she has. laugh.gif I am guessing she has more shoes than you do rods/reels. I would say you have about the right amount. I have less than you, but I would like more. grin.gif

Not sure there is such a thing as "too many rods" - my wife caught me working on my rods and reels this winter and her comment was "When did you get so many rods? Why do you need so many?" and now every time I buy one she goes ballastic. I don't feel that I have very many:

9 baitcaster rods, 4 spinning rods, 1 muskie rod, 4 crappie rods, and 3 closed-face spinning reel rods for the wife and kid and company. I'd guess that I must have spent around $3k in toto shocked.gif.

Wait, one can have too many rods??? crazy.gif I don't know what I have, but I know it's not enough. I can think of 10 or so off the top of my head (ice rods not included), but I can think of at least that many more that I need.

I have about 4 right now I think, and I think I need at the least 5 more. Each time I buy one I think it will be enough but then I find a use for it and need another! I think an endless supply would be good!

My suggestion, just keep the rods in the rod locker if possible, sounds like she doesn't go fishing much anyway, then store like 5 in the garage. LOL

As long as the manufacture's keep comming out with new rods and improved reels can any one who fishes on a regular basis have enough rods? Break a tip one time on a hot walleye bite and you're in someone else's boat with only one rod along and you will never think that only one rod is enough. My Ex used to ask me that very question don't you think you have enough fishing rod's? I Said no and traded her in on a 7'10" baitcasting rod and Diawa line counter reel:) Girl friend doesn't ask me that question!!!! smile.gif

(I have 8 for myself and 3 i let the GF use.) Also works if you tell her you bought it for her to use when she is along!!!!!!:)

I have 11 baitcasters, 5 spinning rods, 4-5 ice rods and one fly rod. It seems like alot, but I always and trying new things. This year I have been targeting catfith alot, so I bought a couple more baitcasters, my other reels didn't have clickers so I needed to get new reels as well. It seems alittle excessive, but I still plan on getting a few more every year.

My Old Man has 20+ fly rods, now that is excessive, especially at 300-400+ per setup

I have over 40 but under 50 I keep 4 rigs in a ready rig just for fishing in someone elses boat and have 10 in my boat at all times some times 12,,,, right side locker is level winds left is spinning and often there isnt room so some lay on top of the locker ,,my worst fear is when Im dead the wife will sell them for what she thinks I paid for them or even less since they all were used

Im mainly a walleye guy.So my 2 leadcores,2longline,2threeway,3rigging,3spinner and 4 jigging rods should be just enough. But sadly its not gonna be.I may just get into Bass and Musky fishing,Oh yea,Then there is Catfish, Pannies etc..In closing let me just say....NO AMOUNT OF RODS AND REELS AND TACKLE IS EVER TO MANY..... smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

I have about 12 total, including a few for kids and one for wife. Ask her how much it costs her when she gets her hair done- bet it adds up to more $ per year than most of us spend on rods/reels!

I only have 3.... more rod/reel combo's this year than I did last year.. wait, make that 4 more, and a couple upgraded reels earlier in the year.

So that leaves me in the neighborhood of about 40(no less). I have a couple more rod purchases planned for sometime this year before fall.

I have more large catfish specific rods than most people have rods here crazy.gif

Archer, I keep them in the rod locker for the the most part and have an "overflow" area top put them right by the captains chair. In the overflow area I keep out my primary aersenal. If I change species I am targeting or have to move down the line with presentations I switch up what is in my active aersenal and that which is "contained" or stored. In most situations I have 8-10 poles out and ready the rest are organized in the old locker.

There is a method to the madness. It all goes with my medical condition of OCF (Obsessive Compulisive Fishing disorder) Which include but are not limited to:

- Neat order of rods by size

- Continually checking drag or re-rigging line

- Changing baits to the point of obsession

- Spending time wandering aimlessly the halls of Gander, Fleet, Joes

- Purchasing of tackle you know will not work but my gosh does it ever glitter and look nice.

- Leaving work early and staggering home in the wee hours of the night.

Oh and last but not least. To steal a line from "Blaze" When my daughter calls me Dad or my wife honey I snap and say my name is Pike, Thats Mr. Pike, got it !!! smile.gif

Anyway I am now off to the cabin to feed the addiction and will be there for the entire week.

WOW... with 40 rods when is the last time that you used ALL of them? Be willing to bet that there are a couple that have not gotten wet in a few years. I have about 12. 3 baitcasters, 3 open faced, 3 closed faced and three ice fishing rigs. That is because there are three of us here that fish. I fish to relax not to see how many different lures I can throw into the water in a three minute period. We have 3 in the water and if one is working better than the others we all switch to that one. I have an 18 FT Jon boat and there is no way I would want any more rods laying in the bottom if it than there are now. However comma pause for effect I do have about 8 dozen different kinds of duck decoys! Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo
