Ebiz
I'm getting married in two weeks and am thinking about giving the groomsman engraved fillet knives. Question is what would be a good brand/model and where would I get them? I've always just owned the plain jane rapala knives and am looking for something a bit nicer/higher quality. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
rmrakt
I received a Leech Lake fillet knife when I was a best man 7 years ago.....great gift, great knife!
mamohr686
Leach lake custom fillet knives are the best you can find. They run about $70 if I remember right. I've seen them at scheels in fargo and st. cloud I think you may be able to find them at reed's also (free shipping). Buck makes an excelent knife for about $40 to $50 also, good steel but not as sharp and doesn't have the custom handle like the leach lake knife. mtreno
ya i had one of those same german knifes with the W. got it at the knife shop that used to be in southdale years ago. when it was stolen i was very upset. few years back i got one of the leach lake knifes - the double sided tip is great. seems to hold a good edge. i would go with the leach knife should be easier to find

The_Duckslayer
Quote:What about the cordless electric fillet knives?? I am with you TSCTSC. I bought one a few years back and now no matter how good the manual fillet knife was you gave me I would get the electric one out. I have a Rapalla one that runs on 12VDC and has a power supply that comes with it to plug into the house. Makes cleaning fish a much faster job! You could put a engraved plate on the case of it as well. Have a good one and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo
gunflint
The 'W" knife is probably a Wusthof. I have one and it is a great knife.
iffwalleyes
Leech Lakes are awesome. They make a great gift if they are in the price range you are looking at.
let it snow
Mrs. Let It Snow, the fish cleaner in the family, owns 3 Leech Lakes - one was a gift, one she inherited when her Dad passed away and one she inherited when a great friend passed away. She must have 15 fillet knives (12 Rapalas of various sizes) and she ALWAYS goes back to those 3 Leech Lakes now. Me? I can hurt myself w/ a Leatherman and she doesn't let me (nor her brother) near the day's catch, whether it be walleyes, northerns (no bones!) or crappies. She was a "dock boy" for 19 years and knows her way around a fillet. Leech Lakes. Nuf said.Great gift - need a groomsman?? The wife is always looking for new steel!Let It Snow

If my better half could (or would) clean fish I'd bring some home, plus I would get the 'green light' to go fishing more often if I was bringing home a meal! Now go get some fish, and call me when dinner is ready!
tunrevir
I agree with the Leech Lake Knives. I got one as a gift and bought a second for the cabin. The first knife was engraved with "especially made for tunrevir" on one side and had a small walleye and the year on the other side. A keepsake that I will always cherish! Jim Almquist
I have a leech lake knive and it is the only knife I will fillet with. I also had mine engraved like tunrevir at the sport show but I bet if you contact the company they would engrave them with all your groomsmens name and that it was for your special day. tunrevir
Wow! it sounds like those Leech Lake knives might be worth something some day. I bought mine at the sports show for 74 bucks a couple years back. The best part about that is that if you use the knife like it was intended, you only need to sharpen it once a year. If you bring it to the sports show they will sharpen and polish it to new for a couple bucks! That is a big bonus too! Tunrevir~
deepportage01
Do you know if they ever have a sale on them. man that sound to good to be true just having a company that will stand behind there product like that is realy cool.I might pick on up if there is ever a sale. thanks
CodyDawg
I am not sure I should post Henschel's number on here, but one could look it up easy enough...look in Alexandria, MN. The nice thing about a Henschel is that he will give you different options on grades of steel. He really knows his stuff, I have toured his facility and it is amazing.
