M.T. Bucket
Not having a good start to the ice fishing season? (We know you're out there.) Air your woes here. If everything's been going great, your post isn't welcome--this is a support group. Here's what I have to complain about... Been out 4 times now...skunked twice, the other 2 times only 1 crappie per outing. Results-wise, this is the worst start I've had yet. Maybe I need to keep my ear to the ground a little more. My son got ahold of my favorite rod and broke it, so I went out and got a replacement...broke that while I was getting set up my first day this season. Went fishing with my dad and knocked one of the support rods for his portable down the hole. He paid me back by dropping my lantern and breaking the globe. I feel much better now... Dennis Steele
Whining? I am good at that! Just ask my wife. It wasn't my first trip out on the ice but the first time I took my sled out. I made a trip to the Horseshoe for a little catfishing. Trailer lights didn't work and I was leaving well before the sun came up. I pulled the snowmobile off the trailer and she started up great, idled great, ran great as we headed out to our spot. A few hundred yards later....BBLLAAaaahhhh. AShe quit on us and we had to drag it back to the landing. No problem I have feet and good Ice Grippers. We made it out to the spot and had a decent day of fishing. When we started to pack up I noticed that my Otter travel cover was gone. I don't really know what happened to it. I don't have a recollection of taking it off...or seeing it blow away???? It was on, on the drive to the lake. So I load the Otter in the Suburban.(I usually put it on the trailer but no travel cover...) When I stop to drop of my friend at his truck I find that I can't open the back door to the truck. Its stuck good!! Well now my Otter is stuck inside the Suburban, and my wife needs the truck to help my daughter move into her new appartment in the morning! When I get home I tell her the back door is stuck. She walks out opens it with no difficulty what so ever. (This is the worst part of the whole trip!!! ) Oh well... all part of the game I guess.I have to fix the trailer lights, have a broken down snowmobile, lost the cover to my sled, and my wife is a little smug! Jeremy airjer W
Last year I decided to go out for the first time. Loaded up the gear and off to the bait store. Forgot my bait bucket, no problem bait another at the bait store. Went to leave and smell something burning, It was the spool on me reel grounding out the vex battery. Went back to the bait store got a new rod, reel, and line. Off to the fishing hole. Fing my spot, drill three holes (hand auger) set up the house, forgot my shovel. Threw the transducer down the hole and cant find bottom. Thought for sure I trashed the vex in the previous incident. I repooled and put a minow on my lure toss it in the hole and the line only unspooled for a second. I looked down the hole and I'm only in two feet of water. I moved, drilled a hole and checked the depth then drilled two more holes set up the house, got my line in the water went to sit down forgot my bucket. Everything else went fine from there! Thank god the fish were biting!
The Grebe
Whining is where it's at...I can do some whining! The first time I went out, my Vex would'nt work and I had just charged the battery. Charged it according to the book of Hoyle and it still would'nt take, had to fight the Christmas crowds to buy another battery at Fleet Farm. Can't find anyone to go fishing with, lost my diamond earring, broke my favorite pannie rod, truck developed a high priced miss..."I think it might be your wobbulator shaft? $1000 to fix it if that is what it is, could run ya more?" Ain't no snow and thats how I make a living in the winter. And lastly, 3 out of the last 4 fishing trips I have made, netted me about 10 minnow sized Perch, and 2 Pike, one hammer handle and one about 7 pounds. Was supposed to go to Mille Lacs this morning and that did'nt pan out! Cheez! Gottcha, just joking, this dump does'nt bother me at all, I just thought I would try this post to start the morning fix! The Chemist
Well let's see Have only part of my stuff at home but still haven't found the time to get the augers running. Believe my vex is at the cabin and thus the batteries will need to be charged. Want to make an adjustment to my Sno-Boat but that's at the cabin also. Have only had 1 day off from work in the past 3 weeks (x-mas day) and won't have another until New Years day. Both days are being used to celebrate x-mas w/ the wife's mother, step father / Father, stepmom. The following weekend I have to go to SD for x-mas w/ my moms side of the family. Still have my POS van that I was hoping to be rid of. And don't think I will step foot on hard water until the 21st at the latest when I go on a RL/LOW weekend trip. And to top it off I keep hearing about people hitting my lakes of choice and wondering if I'll be out there. I keep promising myself I'm gonna do more fishing than theprevious year but it never seems to work out, but at least when January ends I'm not gonna have to work weekends so maybe I will get out more. And to top it off when the Cool Cats get together is the oldest is supposed to be in church but I believe we are going to head to the cabin anyways.Oops that wasn't whining the wife said he could miss church one time. rod bender
forgot the lantern at home but did happen to have my Hitachi 14.4 volt battery and light that came with my saws and drill. So used that and it worked just fine, that is until I bumped it and it fell down the hole. The light continued to work. 15' of water. With the help of my camera and a big jigging rap, up it came 15 min. later. Hung it from the top of the otter, still working. 45 min. later I went to adjust it a tad and out it went. So we packed up in the dark and went home.
Juice
I need to vent....It was X-mas day. Day went perfect, until that nite! Loaded up the car with all the goodies you need for you fishing trip. 5 dozen rods n'reels, half dozen tip-ups, minners, worms, lantern, powered and hand auger,(never know when the strikemaster will die) and portable. And i was off to my fishin hole. Got out there, loaded all the gear up the portable except for the auger and lantern that was in the trunk. Turned the key for the trunk then, "snap"! Key breaks, tried to use spare, that breaks too. And that car is so old they dont make spares for it no more. So now i cant even go out fishin since i cant drill a hole! I feel better already venting that out...

abens1078
Can you rip out the back seat back rest? I had an old car once that I had to break into by going through the trunk(no trunk lock). I would just lift on the back rest nd give a kick and I was in. You could probably do the same to break into your trunk from the inside of the car. I don't know, just got me thinking. Good luck. Eric Wettschreck
Sunday I was going to put my big house on the lake. Got truck started, got the 4-wheeler started, everythings going good. Then I realize I have to move my truck a little to get the wheeler out of the garage. No problem, just jump in and back up a bit. Sure, just back up a bit......right over my minnow bucket and all my minnows. This is a big deal cuz the closest bait shop is what seems like 1/2 day drive. AAAAARRGGGGGGGGGGGGGG.Finally on the lake. Drop the house down, hook up the propane tank, drive back home to get the auger I forgot. AAAAARRRRGGGGGGGGG.Get back to the fish house, drill some holes.........no scooper. (I know, I'm a big (Contact US Regarding This Word)) Lucky for me another fellow nearby was watching the circus I had going on and volunteered a scoop. Thanks. It costed me a few beers, but was well worth it and I made a pal.Hopefully 2005 will go better.
psegriz
Moose hunterThe best cure for the common cold I know of is to crawl into a fishhouse. Make sure to bring enough chicken noodle soup, acan opener and a spoon to last a week or two. Only leave the fh when nature calls or when cold is gone. Call your boss every morning and let him know that your trying your best to get over this but it just seems to be taking it's time. Your family would also be glad to see you try so hard to get over it because it's no fun being around anyone who is sick anyhow. Hope this helps. icehousebob
You guys are pikers. I headed out fishing for the weekend and my chauffeur brought along her twin sister, Kimoko, and they giggled in Japanese the whole way up. When we got there, we had to use a small fish house with only one bed in it. I was out of French brandy, and the girls weren't old enough to buy liquer, so I was forced to drink the domestic stuff that I serve to guests. When we got back to shore, someone had scratched the fender on my Rolls, fortunately it was not one of my good ones. We stopped at a bait shop to get a couple of fish weighed and one of them was a state record or something and I got delayed while lots of people got their pictures taken with it. I sometimes think icefishing isn't worth it.
Moose-Hunter
Griz...I like the way you think!! If it weren't for other duties required of me today, I'd out getting my "cure". I'm may just have to call in tomorrow... cough, cough... I feel a relapse coming on... sniffle... And it seems like a real doozie... sniffle, cough....Wait a minute... I'm self employed... Okay.... I'M FIRED!!! Problem #1 solved.... So I'm off to the grocery store...Thanks Griz!!
