Popular Post MCI
My first time putting pictures on the forum, sorry for the rotate issue.I should add a little background to these pictures; the deer was shot in MN, area 247. I have had this deer on my scouting camera for the last 3 years, he had a distinct mark on his left side so that is how I know it was the same deer year after year. I have a permanent stand in the woods and it seems every year the wind is blowing in such a direction that my cent is blown into the face of the deer in the woods. Because of my stand placement and wind this guy never gave me a shot during the past few years. My stand has side shield to block the wind, my son could not shoot with out standing up first. We tried hunting out of it last year together and it didn't work, every time he stood up the deer would bolt. So this year he and I used my moms bird watching blind to hunt out of, I positioned it down wind so the wind would not bust us. We had to move it 3 different times/days in order to keep us down wind. The first 2 days we only saw fawns, but the 3rd day was the lucky one. At 4pm a fawn came walking by us at 23yrds and at 4:30 this guy came walking on the same trail the fawn came down. When he was broadside to the blind I grunted to get him to stop, my son shot and hit him in the heart at 23yrds. Deer ran 110yrds before he piled up. 11pts with nothing broken, one side had an extra point. I did not weigh him because I felt he wasn't that huge, I'm guessing he field dressed about 175-185.I dropped him off at the taxidermist last week for a shoulder mount. He will be aging him once he pulls the teeth and he already called and left me a message saying it scored 182 3/8.I have already told my son that its going to be HARD to top this deer in the future. His response "dad, its not about the rack size, we are meat hunters. The rack is just a bonus." He's a good kid and I hope I have a life long hunting buddy after this experience. icehole10, monstermoose78, jerkbait and 5 others

leechlake
Congrats, I hunted with a young kid for a few years in So Dak. One year he killed a buck about 175", his first buck. His dad gave me grief because he'd be hard pressed to kill a bigger one. The "kid" is now a young man and shoots a buck nearly every year and he's happy as can be with those bucks too. Hope he eventually talks a little trash about it though...gotta do that!

O.T.C.
Might be meat hunters but aren't you lucky you truly aren't or you'd have been gutting that fawn instead of that trophy, nicely done !
bigbucks
Great deer, be an awfully tough one to ever top, but that's okay. There might be quite a few of us that have shot the biggest deer we'll ever kill already & we just don't know it. Congrats to both of you.
O.T.C.
That's the beauty of deer hunting, we don't know what or when or why or if we'll bag another one. It's the unknown that makes it what it is and why us older cats never tire of it. For some google the Mills Fleet Farm big buck contest some cool deer to look at and I tried the Hillview page but idk been nothing since 2012 ? Some really awesome deer and stories behind them in here this year. With another weak Winter upon us praying Spring will be kind, we should be in for a decent year next year. Hope to see a few bow kills yet before 2016. Who is going to bag that last deer of the season and post it in here ? PS. Great I was in the wrong thread, again. Your sons first deer is a whopper. What a thrill and he is hooked for life and that's great ! We need kids like him at school to help open the eyes to those that will never shoulder a gun. He can write an essay about those experiences and educate and teach other kids in his classes all about it, the whole experience is so tremendous, awesome story.
