I love wild rice too!!  looks like mushrooms for sure in it..   our family recipe calls for lots of butter, onion and celery...

I boil it in chicken broth and butter. At the same time I am frying up mushrooms, bell peppers, onions and garlic in olive oil. When the rice is done I add it to the mushrooms, bell peppers, onions and garlic.

Mike, we frequently have leftover broth in the frig. I will use it up in certain things in places that call for water. Make a difference to, to the point I use broth now instead of water 👍

For me I have it down to where there isn't any left over broth when the rice is done or very little. If there is it goes in with the mushrooms, bell peppers, onions and garlic.

For the wild rice I use it takes about 15-20 minutes. I get the broth boiling in a covered pot and then I add the rice and recover it until it starts boiling again. Then turn it down so it stays boiling but doesn't boil out. After about 5 minutes or so take the cover off and finish boiling it until it is done. These are all estimates and it really depends on the quality of the wild rice you use. If you have the dark black colored stuff it takes a longer.

So you boil it the whole time?  I think reg, rice you bring to a boil then simmer covered until done?  I think?

any of you guys ever tried the cheater method with your wild rice and throw it in an instapot?

 

I rinse the rice off and then add 1 cup of rice and 2 cups of water or broth in the instapot.  I just do a manual cook for 30 mins and then let it release naturally. I cook white rice the same way even though there is a rice mode.

 

The instapot cook time is roughly about the same as boiling in a pot but at least you don't have to tend to it and babysit it. You just set the timer and do other stuff. Results may very on the rice so may need some adjustments.

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.

    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
