FAVORITE FISHING SHOWS?

I don’t buy the argument that you need to pimp your sponsors or there wouldn’t be a show.     The problem is that the companies love the pimps and the envelope keeps getting pushed further by guys willing to walk around like billboards spewing clichés and advertising slogans.     There is some good stuff out there if you want to watch fishing shows (and not infomercials), you just have to dig around a little bit on YouTube.

On a side note, yes I did see an episode of Keyes I would want to do and that was small river musky fishing.  It looked like a blast even though they were only catching 30-40’s

Linder's Angling Edge. I've always enjoyed how thorough the Linders are with sharing tips, techniques, seasonal locations; really valuable intell. Also, their camera work, and ability to capture just beautiful images are second to none!

I'm not a fan of shows at all if they only show a boat in northern Ontario catching fish after fish, and only plugging a resort...ie. Winkelmen. I think Babe is still the only "pro" out there that ALWAYS hunts and fishes with a guide! How does this showcase any outdoors skill on his part what-so-ever? Talk about a product pimp!?!?

There's something about watching Gillespie's Water's and Woods. Once it's on, you just can't seem to turn it off! Even my wife will sit with me and laugh. He's so obnoxious I don't know how all those guys can keep a straight face! laugh I think Seinfeld would definitely refer to him as a "close talker". What do you think? crazy

There's several young guys coming up with nice new shows now. Similarly patterned toward the older In-Fishermen programs. Focused on sharing real info, and made to look fairly laid back, but fun. I think Gussy is really good at this, and he's obviously a really talented fishermen.

"Hey, Hey, Hey John Gillespie! Hey, Hey, Hey John Gillespie!" laugh How can you even turn that off? It's infectious!

I like the more "local" angle shows and not just MN local. I dont get too much out of these NW Ontario and other Fly-in only locations. It seems to be the trending way for TV shows. Does it really matter what your throwing at em? Those lakes are stacked with fish, big whoop that you nailed them, I dont think its your x-rap or any other lure youre rep'in that triggered the strike. I could throw any twister tail down there and limit out.

Let me watch a guy go through the common everyday stuff that we do and be successful. Thats the show to watch. Too bad most people just want to see the catch, not the effort it takes that most of us put in.

Spanish Fly frown

Fly Rod Chronicles

Buccaneers n Bones

I'll watch In Depth Outdoors as well

If there's a show and Flip Pallot's on it, I'm probably going to watch it.

And for some reason I can't seem to change the channel when Zonas Awesome Fishing Show comes on. Same thing with Bill Dance shows...

I really like the way IDO is shot and the trips they feature and the info they share, but the "shamwowwwing" of VMC, Rapala, TUCR, Marcum, Otter, and SM is a bit much for my taste. BTW, what happened to the awesome Thorne Rods and Slender Spoons they couldn't leave home without last year? smile

Yes, that is a curious phenomenon. Was wondering the same thing myself. whistle

I think it's funny people don't like how IDO advertises there sponsors. They're one of the few fishing shows that actually go out every week no matter what conditions(50 below, 105 above)and catch fish. They're not going on private lakes and only when the bite is hot, they actually show these products work.

Linders

In Depth Outdoors

In Fisherman

Midwest Outdoors

Fishing The Midwest

Butch Furtmann

Joe Bucher

I can skip the rest, including Jason Mitchell's snooze fest.

I don't know how anyone can watch Drunken' Hey Hey Hey John. He is so annoying. I think the show was better when he was actually drinking while filming. Maybe I need to be drunk to watch it.

Never cared much for Winkelman before. Can't stand him ever since I saw a show a couple years ago here he shot a deer in the arse then went home and left it to die. Then ended the show with a follow-up with the guy that found it. Like that made it ok. He is not a spokesman for sportsman and gets no respect from me.

I understand that the OP wanted to avoid these types of comments but as sportsmen we should shun people like this.

Keyes can be entertaining. Better than watching the snow melt right now.

I don't consider Wiched Tuna a fishing show. I do enjoy it and DVR every episode but I think of it as a soap opera for sportsman more than a fishing show. The pranks a good too, like putting up for sale flyers on someone elses boat with the guys cell phone. Good stuff. Or stuffing dead bait in their vehicle while they are out fishing. I've had that happen before. Barstages! laugh

The Outdoor Channel is currently running a show called "Bottom Feeders" They show commercial netting of Carp, Buffalo, Sheephead, and Catfish. Being that they are mostly in Lake Pepin and the Miss. river, the local flavor makes it interesting. It is a reality show so you get some of the trumped up drama.

Most popular or my favorite?

Either HSO Angling or Waters and Woods

Mostly because it doesn't seem like a job to those either of those shows, they just go out and have fun with a camera.

I agree completely. Un Cut Angling is my favorite, very entertaining and always learn a tip or two on every show. Also, he just enjoys fishing.

Waters and Woods is entertaining simply because of the obnoxiousness. He seems to seriously enjoy fishing, not just going through the motions to make a show.

About the only show I will watch is Linders. The rest just seem to be infomercials or more emphasis on whooping and hollarin that they just netted their fish with their new model Frabrill net . Occasionally I will watch Butch Furtman, but that is just because he is a local guy and features many of our local lakes.

Ya know I have to say Woods and Water I really do get a kick out of. My wife says oh no not that guy again and all I can do is laugh. We are usually having coffee or brunch by that time in the morning.

I really like Wicked Tuna if that qualifies.

I used to really like that show with the blonde, Debra Johansen when they would go to a different resort each week and show the resort and then catch some fish. Made me want to go to each of them.

I like the shows that are just fishing and having fun. I am tired of the shows trying to look like they know more than everybody else.

Zona's Awesome Fishing Show- makes me laugh. Good guy

Lindners

Dallberg

Infish is not what it used to be. The name grabs me but the content turns me off.

IDO reminds me of the HSOforum. Not a fan of the blatant advertising and censorship I feel on that site.

Winkelman pulled 40' in front of me in Mille Lacs once to film his show on smallies. 3 boats cut me off. I did everything I could to ruin that shoot. Radio up Minn Kota on high staying in the background. Have to admit I was not happy at first but disrupting him became quite fun.

I use to hate when John G came on the TV but after awhile I realized that the guy just puts enthusiasm into fishing and in all honesty has the best show for entertainment and up to date episodes!!! He has become by far my favorite fishing show!!

Butch is just blah but I give him a view just for the fact he is old school and local.

Linder's have the most information packed into one show by far.

Babe...well he is Babe and if you have been around long enough you have heard the stories about him and watching his show you get a feel for what kind of person he is. But some of my favorite shows are of his when he went crappie fishing with his dad and he had another one regarding a family patriarch passing and how the family continued the fishing spirit. Those shows hit home with me.

Jason Mitchel is informative but as dry as the desert!!

IDO just can't keep my attention and Midwest Outdoors should be renamed to Nelson's and Arneson's Fishing resorts infomercial!!

Keys Outdoors captures my attention but I think it is because if I had the time I think I could get my buddies and produce a similar show...

HEY! HEY! HEY John Gillespie!!! just love when that comes on as my 2 boys get up and start dancing like mad!!!!

Whatever happened to that muskie guy out of Hugo, MN? Can't remember his name. He was as arrogant and bossy in the boat as anyone I've EVER seen!

He'd hook a fish then just start barking orders at his boat guest. DO this! No Don't DO that! Now do this! Now go over there! No don't do that!

He was a real piece of work, but he sure could catch giant fish!

Bob Mehsikomer of Simply Fishing... Monster fish yes, but being a total tool ruins that. lol

I have heard stories of this guy sending his "workers" out to pre-fish for tourneys and had them all fishing without hooks on their baits.

Keyes is a joke, things have been so bad for that show, they frequently replay old footage, they also play other fishermans footage, and they are good at name dropping. Lets be honest have they ever shown you anything that makes you think wow I need to try that. LOL

If I was an advertiser on that show, I would be less than happy about the replaying of old footage and the amount of reruns. The only person on that show worthy of being on TV is Ben Olson. The host and the rest of the crew are not very good fishermen.
