Any chance the ice house out rule with be extended

After removal dates, shelters may remain on the ice between midnight and one hour before sunrise only when occupied or attended.

That is from dnr HSOforum. So does that mean you have to move your shack daily even if your sleeping in it?

All it means is that the house can be on the ice after the deadline as long as its occupied, no need to move it daily. So if you can't get it off the lake by the deadline just make sure you stay in the house until you can get it off.

If there are other houses near yours maybe go out to the house and wait for the others to plow roads to their houses. Then you just have to get your house to one of the newly plowed roads made by the neighbors.

I was actually thinking about getting "stuck" on purpose....still might just do that..... seems like a great "opportunity" to get in some quiet time grin

Not gonna give any names or locations, but I had a good friend that had a house out last year he could only get too by snowmobile due to very deep snow.

He called the DNR and explained the situation and they just said, "get it off when you can". A few weeks later he removed his house, and that was the end of it.

I think if you're cool about it, give them a call, your name, #'s, location and such, and don't make a big deal about it like saying, "You guys really have to give EVERYONE more time to get houses off!" I think they'll just cut you some slack.

Reality is, if they give everyone more time, everyone will take more time. Get it? wink

Start trying now, and contact them individually if it's impossible to get too.

More specifically, just sleep in your house each night. Tell the Mrs. that it's required by law until you are able to get the house off of the lake. During the day you can still go to work as long as you're back in there by midnight!

Nope! I am the guy, who has been all over the news with the video getting my ice house using trucks and a skid steer. I kept hearing the same answer about the deadline, but never straight from the DNR. Wisconsin and Iowa have already stated their plan to cooperate with their anglers because of this abnormal winter. Make a long story short, I used my media appearances, and future appearances to get the DNR to make the statement today. Of course the media didn't bring this up, and made it sound like everyone is going to jail come Monday! NO extension of course, but this all anyone wanted, and makes sense. No one I met wanted to leave their shack out there! Just an answer what would happen if it was still on the lake Monday. I must say, the DNR commissioner came through , and they did what they said they would do, during the phone conversation! Just getting the info out there> Good luck to you guys!

- Almost forgot, commissioners office in return, asked me to let everyone know, they have been GPSing houses. It's real, I have seen it first hand around here, just last week. Also, this has been discussed several times...IT IS ILLEGAL TO BURN YOUR ICE HOUSE DOWN! There it is!

We all knew there was a ton of snow on the lake long before the deadline.

If they extend the date, then people will put it off for another week or two.

Cannot be a suprise to anyone that is is or was going to be a pain to remove it unless one had not used it for a month and did not know it snowed on the lake.

IMO the date is no surprise. The snow storm was no surprise. Nothing was a surprise just poor planning if you can not meet the deadline.

Well, when a storm happens during the middle of a week like this time it's hard for a lot of people to take off work or get the help they may need from others who have to take off work to run up north or where ever their houses are to pull them. Maybe the 100 folks who got stuck on Red during the storm just didn't plan well or they got caught. I think we can make some acceptions to a rule once in a while to make sure everyone is off the lakes, Safe! wink

Plus, I wonder how many people didn't make it in to work that day and the Boss said, that's just bad planing you knew the storm was coming! whistle

I might think that if one was snowed in that bad that they could not get it off, they could call the DNR and they could make an exception for a week for that house. They could give them the number for the house an extend it a week.

You shouldn't put a house out there if you don't have the resources to get it off if the conditions turn bad.

Can you imagine the outrage if the DNR extended the deadline until the snow starts to melt and someone fell through the ice trying to get their house off.

So i can burn my soild wood icehouse but people can have fires on the ice??

There's usually more to an ice house than just solid wood. Like nails, glue for laminating plywood, chemicals used to treat the wood. What about insulation? How many houses out there don't have any? What about the blocking under the house? Shingles? Paint on the wood?

The paragraph from the regs:

• Littering of any materials, including parts of fish or other animals, and depositing

rubbish, poisonous substances,

or chemicals harmful to aquatic life into public waters,

onto ice, or lake or stream shores is illegal. “Chumming” (depositing fish parts or other

material into public waters to attract fish) is unlawful. Fish line and various packaging

materials can be harmful to wildlife.

Aside from that, burning little bon fires directly on the ice isn't a good idea anyway since the left over coals help promote algae growth once they become part of the open water after ice out. I know, small amount but it's still pollution. What about the wrappers, cups, paper plates, etc. that get tossed in the fire while it's burning? It all doesn't just disappear like it looks.

Sure, you can ignore it but it's still there.

I don't see someone falling through as soon as the snow starts to melt. There are people that fish after the snow melts.

I know that and you know that but do you think the media would report that someone fell through because they were in an unsafe area? No it would be reported the DNR extended the deadline and look what happened.
