FISHINGURU
You couldn't pay me enough.... Me either, 100 yards is about as close as I like to get. I prefer snowmobile adventures with portables where I don't see anyone for a week.

Duffman
The ice fishing gear industry sure likes that pic though, gotta be well over a quarter million dollars of gear there. And to think I've been the only soul on some remote trout lake upnorth for the opener multiple times. Thank you freshly fallen snow for talking me into getting back in bed this morning. amateurfishing
my neighborhood isn't that populated.....let alone the places I ice fish, kinda defeats the purpose to mejeff Foxworthy may like this: "if your ice shack wall buts up against your neighbors.....you MIGHT be to close"
Alagnak
There's not a trout in this world I want to catch bad enough to be in that mess- close enough to smell what someone had for dinner the night before- no thanks. Another MN 'opener' S-show tradition. Race there for 'opener' and kill 70% of the farm fish they dumped in there in the first 12 hours. Why don't they have it open year round and they just dump a few in once and a while instead. Then it wouldn't be a rape-contest one weekend gong show but I guess that's what some people like?I'd rather set tip ups in my back yard knowing I'm not going to see anyone else but that's just me. Then it wouldn't be a rape-contest one weekend gong show but I guess that's what some people like?I've actually been on the lake before -- showed up in '07 I think it was. Caught 3 trout. Water clarity was the worst I've ever seen ice fishing, on any lake (less than a foot). It was a zoo and I haven't been back.I agree, they should just even out the stocking instead of dumping in a bunch last week for harvest this week. I suppose the problem would be that then they'd come up with some huge astronomical figure for how much it costs them to visit the pond every 2 weeks or something, and it wouldn't be financially viable. Alagnak
Was this a contest or something? No contest at all. Just winter trout 'opener' and there's slim pickins around the metro for planted sewer trout so it gets a decent turn out as you can see. Eric_Kruger
I was out there this am, and i can actually see myself in that pic! I gotta say, everyone I encountered out there was amazingly nice, respectful, and was catching at least one.....I ended up being home by ten with a limit, my brother and fishing partner though, couldn't keep them on and came home empty handed. By the time we left at 9:30 a lot of the people in our area had cleared out and we had a pretty good spacing between us and the nearest shack. the worst part was the slush.....Will I do it again....MAYBE
Duffman
I'm sure it was a load of fun for most folks. You just have to have the right mindset for a place like that. Combat fishing can be quite the party at times.

123fish
Kind of reminds of down here in the southwest corner when the Iowegians pour in on the word of a hot bullhead bite.
JBMasterAngler
Has anyone ever caught a trout there the day after opener? That pond has to get fished out pretty quick.
buzbunni
It was a blast. Seriously.I'm not one to enjoy fishing closer than a 1/2 mile from anyone, but I made up my mind that I was gonna experience the trout opener zoo at Courthouse lake this morning. So glad I did, and I will be making it an annual event from here on out. Why? It's just..different.I ended up getting a "late" start on the morning and didn't arrive to the lake until 6:30am. By then there were no parking spots close by and the lake was already full of shacks. I parked about 4 blocks away and slogged to the lake. I set up on the South side in 21ft. of water and dropped a line.I ended up with one 11" rainbow and watched several "wolf packs" cruise by my presentation (sight fishing). So Cool. Missed a fish as well. Water clarity was excellent.I've heard that Courthouse is an early morning bite, and judging by my experience (as well as those angling around me) this is indeed the case. All of the fish I observed cruising past my presentation passed by after 8:30am. There may be an evening bite as well, but after a couple hours of zero bites, I packed it up around 10:30am and headed home.I know. It looks silly, and stoopid, and crowded, and ridiculous...and it is. Still, the camaraderie is good, the angling can be great, and if you are prepared for "shack city", you may just have a fun time. Again, I am not one show up for an event like this. Never-the-less....I made up my mind that I was gonna give it a try, and I can honestly say that I had a great time. I'll be out there again next year; hope to see you there.PS. Pretty sure if you want to get a close parking spot you need to be at the lake around 4am...or earlier. Crazy fun. Wanderer
Wow... So much different than the one time I was there years ago. I think there were less than 10 people out there at that time. People must enjoy it though or they wouldn't be there. I tried to get into a streamer lake today But the trail was a little blocked. Some might not think that was fun but I thought it was.
