Congrats KT, you accomplished what three of us couldn't this Fall in MT. Just curious, what state, what dates, what elevation? Did you call it in, spot and stalk, shoot it over water/wallow? What's the story of how this bull went from alive and well to the centerpiece of a grip and grin shot with you?

Regardless of the details, congrats!

Thanks Scoot, I actually spoke with you on the phone last winter/spring when I started this quest. You were driving the kids to go ice fishing for the day. At the time I was applying for the breaks. Your advice to me was get in shape and work on calling! Well, I did both. Except I broke my foot while trail running on Aug. 11 and was on crutches until the day I left for my trip, Sept 25. My mental health needed the mountains after all of my prep and anticipation. When we got to Montana the snowstorms kept the elk very quiet so that put a damper on even the locating of elk by vocals. It ended up being a good old northern Minnesota big woods still hunt. Had to even wait until afternoon when the snow wasn't so crusty to do our most effective hunting. The first 5 elk I had within bow range were all spike bulls. Was able to get on one of the spikes and this 6 point in their beds. Like you said, the rest is "Grip and Grin"

Yep, I remember! I was pretty sure we'd spoken about this, but wasn't positive. It sounds to me like you did well for yourself! We ended up doing a lot of the same type of hunting on our trip, but couldn't put it all together and punch a tag. Congrats to you on a dang fine first bull!
