Yep, wish I could only show up for work 25% of the time like Allen. Where was he in the first three games??

Hey, here's a bright idea. Lets build our team around a washed-up DE and a RB. Then lets go out and get a big FA WR, and then lets trade away half our draft for another prospect WR, but never play him, and lets not have anyone to throw the ball to these guys and we will expect to win every week. LOL. Moronic Vikings fans pull your heads out of your arses.

There is only one player in the entire NFL with a bigger base salary than Allen. Peyton Manning. He actually deserves it. And I watched Tom Brady destroy the Falcons tonight with a bunch of no-name undrafted WRs.

NOTHING these losers do will matter until we get a QB. JA, AP, GJ, CP. None of them.

When will the stupid fans of MN finally get it?? The big contracts to people that actually aren't superstars don't work. Need proof?? Joe Mauer, Zack Parisite, the other hockey donkey, Kevin Garnett, Herschel Walker, Dumbte Culpepper, Jared Allen, Adrian Peterson.

None of these will EVER win a championship in a MN uniform. Some of you are simply happy winning 70-75% of regular season games and then getting bounced in the middle of the playoffs. Well i'm not. I am fricken sick of it. Its about dam time we actually try to win a championship instead of having feel good losers like Allen and Peterson on this team.

a bad team beat another bad team today. Buck is on the right track. I like JA a lot, but it is time to save the cash. Another guy on this team that has lost a step is Chad Greenway. He may be better suited to play the middle spot now with Henderson sliding back out. Greenway had that minor knee op this summer, so maybe that is still holding him back a little. nevertheless, he is not as fast as he once was.

oh some people just like to beotch about everything...and it is funny that in your list of people that have received big contracts from our teams in MN on that list you have 3 guys that are almost shoe ins for the Hall of Fame in their sports (AP, KG, and Mauer) and all 3 have been MVP's in their sports also!!! Then you add Jared Allen to the mix and he will probably be an HOF'er when you look at his stats!! Oh and I don't recall us signign Herschel Walker to any big contracts just that we spent alot of draft picks and alot of good players to get him. Daunte Culpepper was coming off one of the best seasons a QB had ever had and from what I hear the Hockey dudes Pairise and Sutter aren't that bad in fact wasn't or isn't Sutter considered one of the best defensemen in game?

E griffen could have done everything that Allen did and then some in the first three games at a much smaller price and then we could have kept Winfield and went after a decent LB.

Here is Aaron Rodgers for ya.

Did you get to give JA the weekly reach-around yet??

Can you tell me how many of those guys will win a Championship in a MN uniform?? I can, ZERO!!!!! There is only one "stat" that matters at the end of the year, and its who has the title.

AP isn't a superstar? I would hate to wonder what a superstar is in your world... crazy

Ok, yes I was much too hard on Peterson. He is an absolute beast, but he will never win a title here in MN. RB have very little importance in winning titles in the modern NFL. Not that I don't like him, but its just not gonna happen with him here.

Maybe we can trade him to Jacksonville for the first overall pick next April.

Your earlier post said that only one player in the entire NFL has a higher BASE salary than JA. Then you proceeded to post a salary total that includes a bunch of things that aren't BASE salary.

Every other player on the list Scott posted also has signing bonus dollars. You can pro-rate those however you want, and teams do that for cap reasons. However, the fact is that the signing bonus was spent years ago. THIS YEAR he's making 14.2 million in salary (plus that 200k for 'misc', whatever that is).

We have had one shortened year with Parise (who looked very good) and Sutter (who was incredible) to go along with some young talent coming up. Once we started to gel, we could beat any team on the ice last year. We look to be even more improved this year. Adding these two to an already weak argument completely invalidated it for me... 2 cents.

The one thing I'll never understand about the D end position is this. Why in the world can't the guys flip flop, is left d-end so different than right d-end ? If a team has a dominant tackle why not let Robison get owned on that side and let Jared Allen cut loose on the other side, the blind side of the qb rather than have them both getting stoned play after play, give a different look, etc I'll never understand that? I coached for 20 years of football and I did that quite often, put my best D end on the other teams weakest tackle rather than have them both stalemated the entire game then you start using fire and nose twist blitzes to get some pressure. This created havoc because going in the other team is scheming for what they see on tape so you face a better team and bring that wrinkle into it and the offense can't adjust and flip flop tackles because as they break the huddle my 2 d-ends would just wait to see how the tackles came out of it and set up then. idk. Why let Jared Allen get pancaked for 4 quarters when he may be able to overwhelm the weaker of the 2 tackles out there maybe drawing then double teams which should open things up a bit for someone else ?

Quote:
Jared Allen hasn't had contract talks with Vikings

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Jared Allen returned to the Minnesota Vikings this season, entering the final year of his contract and was pleased the team didn't ask him to restructure the six-year deal the two sides agreed to in 2008.

Allen, 31, was due a base salary of $14.28 million this season and Minnesota was looking for salary cap space. Veteran cornerback Antoine Winfield was released and defensive tackle Kevin Williams, who has lined up next to Allen since 2008, had his contract restructured, eliminating the final year of his deal for 2014.

Allen will be a free agent in the offseason. He's not sure where his next NFL contract will come from. He's also not worrying about the situation.

Allen said Thursday -- a day after fellow defensive end Brian Robison signed a four-year extension with the Vikings -- he hasn't had talks with Minnesota about an extension of his own.

"Honestly, I'm not even worried about that," Allen said. "I'm in a situation where I've been blessed to have been taken care of and the Lord's been good to me. And that's where I leave it. I leave it in the Lord's hands. Where I'm going to be at is totally up to him and I'm receptive to go where he wants me. It's not a stresser on my mind, honestly."

A five-time Pro Bowl player, Allen will surely have suitors in the offseason if he doesn't return to the Vikings.

He's had double-digit sacks each of the last six seasons dating back to his final year with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2007. Minnesota made the move, dealing a first-round pick and more to the Chiefs to acquire Allen in 2008 and then rewarded him with a six-year, $73.2 million contract, at the time the richest contract for a defensive player in NFL history.

Allen has lived up to the trade and the deal. He's been a three-time All-Pro and has 77.5 sacks in his six seasons with the Vikings. In 2011, he finished a half-sack shy of tying Michael Strahan's single-season record with 22 sacks.

Allen had 2.5 sacks in Minnesota's last game before the bye week in a win against Pittsburgh. But defensive coordinator Alan Williams says Allen's impact on the Vikings' defense has been more than just big sack numbers.

"I wouldn't say he's ever had tunnel vision, that he's just a pass defender," Williams said. "I think Jared has done a good job of making sure that he's keyed into to playing both (the pass and run) and letting his keys take him where he's supposed to be. One good thing about Jared is, sometimes there's a key that says, hey, all week long you're looking at tape and there's a key that it says it's a pass. And just so happens maybe it's a key break where they ran the ball. Jared is a smart ball player. He knows football. We trust him to play both and read his keys."

Allen has also played through injuries. He's started all 84 games since coming to Minnesota. If Allen can keep the streak going, Week 7 against the New York Giants will be his 100th straight start.

"To me, it's one of those things where I believe, if I can go, I can go," Allen said. "I think I owe it to my teammates. They count on me to be on the field. And it's just a mentality I've always had. I think everyone is hurt, everyone is injured along the way. I remember the saying by (former Los Angeles Rams defensive end Jack) Youngblood. 'If I can run on it, tape it up and give me an aspirin and we'll deal with it later.'" when he had his broken leg.

"That's always been my mentality. Guys who played before me, those guys played beat and battered. It's kind of a badge of honor to go out there whether you're hurt or whether you're healthy, and give it all you got for your teammates."

Allen is healthy now after offseason shoulder and knee surgeries. The surgeries were the first of his career. He said the torn labrum last season was probably the worst injury he's played through, mainly because he couldn't sleep at night.

The ability to stay in the lineup is more mental than physical, Allen said.

"I think there are days where you're just like, 'Why do I do this?'" Allen said. "Then you push through, and you know by Friday you'll feel better. Then you push through. To win and to be considered good at something, or try to be great, you have to be on the field. I'm not in the NFL just to say I played in the NFL. I want to make an impact on the game, that week's game, but on the game itself. When I look back on my career, I hope the guys that played before me and after me will say I did it the right way."

Where he finishes his career is still to be determined.
