Muzzy Reports...

Recommended Posts

Can't believe nobody has a report yet... I have one to start.

Sure was a crappy weekend weather wise. Blowing like mad and rainy here on Saturday, but I decided to go out anyway. One of the farms I hunt had little pressure during gun season and is in zone 2, so no pressure for at least a week or so. All my other spots are zone 3. On the one side of the farm is a 10 acre picked corn field with two big steep ravines on either side and a 1/4 mile of the thickest cedars and briars you could imaging runnin one side of the ravine, figured if anything they would be hunkered down and might head to the corn after dark (if at all). So I figured I would climb down and sit right at the bottom of the ravine hoping to catch one coming out. Hopes were not high but ended up shooting a doe about 5:00 doing just what I thought at about 75 yards.

Took us an hour to drag her up to the truck though! I apologized to my buddy every few steps!

Shelfed the muzzy and time to break out the Bowtech again! One more late season doe and we'll be set.

Shot my first muzzy buck ever on saturday after the morning rain converted over to snow. In my experience, deer up here move the best in a cold rain with little wind. I was late to the stand 7:20am. But hung on, even though my hands were wet and water started running down my back after my neck got wet. Shot my deer at 10:15am at 60 yards. Dropped it immediately. I primarily favor watching one lane the most... but just turned my head left and caught him walking across a 10 yard wide lane quickly and I pulled the gun up cocked the hammer and shot quick before he made it into the thick stuff. Amazing how a morning of boredom can turn around in a split second.

Nice shot, always fun to drill one, congrats. Went out twice this weekend two different properties. Had a good chance to shoot one yearling doe each time, but am still holding out for a good buck. I didn't bring the gun up on either one, because I knew I'd say awe what the heck & put them down.

Congrats to everyone having success this muzzy season.

I will! North or South zone for you?

South for me. I've only spent about 10 hours of my life in the park all during the scouting period, so I have no idea if I'm in the good part or not. If it's like my past experiences with park hunts it won't matter much. Just gotta be ready at all times cause you never know when another hunter will bump one to you.

Sandpoint and Jameson, M-H park is right next to my school I teach at. When I drove through the park this fall (I'm from Iowa and there are days i like taking a gravel road to work) I didn't see the deer numbers I have seen the past two years. The southern sections that are being hunted look to me to be the best areas to hunt, but I could be wrong since most of the deer I have seen in the past have been in the northern area. We used to have deer crossing our fields at school and in the back fields behind it as well. All we seem to have left now are turkeys, LOTS AND LOTS OF BIG BRUISER TURKEY'S....

My wife and I (Shes quite the outdoorswoman) hunted Saturday through Monday in SW MN. We both drew doe permits as we are in a lottery area. Saw 11 deer all weekend! The wind was brutal gusting to up to 50 on Saturday and continued through most of Sunday! Saw one doe all day Saturday. Sunday was better. I saw 9 total and took one at a hundred plus yards with my buddys gun (which I have never shot) as mine is getting some work done at TC. Hunted Monday morning to try and get her one. She has hunted three years with me and has yet to get even a shot! She didnt see anything as the wind switched to the sw and blowing hard. We might make it one more time this year and I really want her to get one!! She deserves it as she has braved the weather very well the last three years!! One in the freezer and one to go. Not bad considering the reports I have read for our area!!

Anyone have any luck over the weekend? Sandpoint what's the report? No luck for me. The only way I was seeing deer was if I kicked them up. It was a slow hunt with only 10 deer taken the first day. In comparison the archers got 29 total during their hunt a few weeks ago.

I saw 15 on Friday but I had to jump them to see them. Took a shot at a nice doe but missed. Saturday morning they were moving at first light and I filled my management tag. 75 yards dropped it in tracks. Saw nothing saturday or sunday evening. They are just not moving much in the daylight around here. Maybe this cold snap will put them on their feet a little bit.

Sat all day Saturday. Nice day to be out. 10:30 had two deer (too thick to ID) come by. Snow started at 2:45. 5:00 a fawn no bigger than a lab came ripping by my stand at full tilt. Did a 100 yard circle in the woods and came by again. Funny.

Hey Frosty, I gave up on our land in 240..... I am at a total loss there...

Went to a friends place in the Park Rapids area. 5 of us saw 35 total deer over the weekend.

I had completely forgot what a deer even looked like... Nice to see one finally.
