Dont know where to put this

Hick727

Question

Alright so im turning 18 pretty quick and im gonna try dip for the first time. I was told to get Skoal Apple Blend Pouches because they are best for beginners. But I heard skoal bandits are three times smaller. So should I do those instead because I heard if you get to much nicotine you throw up. So should I use Bandits or Apple Blend Pouches? Should I take it out right when i start to feel weird and then work my way up?

Congrates on turning 18 and becoming a man. I do not or have ever chewed, so I do not know the answer to your question. If you are tuning 18, there is nothing any of us can do but pass on the good advice that has been given. That's my soapbox.

Since the question was not should I try it or not, I would say I would go with the Apple. The best person to ask which one of these you should try is your good old mom or who ever you have close to a mother. Moms always have a way of helping you decide when it comes to anything taste wise. wink

Good Luck! smile

I have been chew free for over 4yrs now (after 16 yrs). The stopping point for me may sound small, but all I needed was a reason. My wife told me that I couldn't get another hunting dog unless I quit the chew.

I can tell you my short hair in pheasant country is much Much more enjoyable than a Cope grin

It is hard... I still think about one every once in a while. shocked

i used to smoke. a pack a day. at an average of 5.50 a pack. thats about 38 bucks a week. which is around 150 a month. when i quit i bought a boat about a month later. that much money saved transfered into somthing liquid that has value. chew and smokes never will have a liquid value. so take that money save it for a few months put a down payment on a nice little boat and start building good credit. give yourself a 18th birthday present to be proud of.

Celebrate your birthday knowing you haven;t subjected your body to carcinogenic drugs.

Keep that up and you've kept the risk of cancer, heart & lung disease and long list other carp you don't want.

You think your young and you have time to mess around with this carp before its too late?

Ha, tobacco will take over your life to were you think you want to live with it. You'll end up defending your right to use it. You'll say how you enjoy a smoke after a meal or with a beer.

No your not enjoying anything, its a need.

Why would you want to start a filthy habit like that? Oh yeah its expensive but the ultimate price is your health and statistically your life.

Tobacco users are different from non tobacco. They cope with life differently.

They are dysfunctional. Do you know how ridiculous it looks when someone needs to go outside and suck on a smoke? Needs to, do you understand that? They need to do that and for what? To shorten their life and live their later years in poor health.

Yes we know you are young and will live forever. NO you won't, you will die some day from most likely a heart attack. Its just a matter of when. Start smoking and you'll die sooner.

Try this angle once...ask the top 10 best looking girls you know...if they like kissing men who chew, or kiss men who chew?

That may set your mind at ease on what may be best for you.

But....I did once know a gal who I would consider a 9.5..that chewed........and...well to be very honest....it didn't slow me down any. So I'm a good bad example...at best.

I started chewing Key long cut when i was 13, puked, drank some more, then did it again and was hooked. Stopped copenhagen cold turkey for two years until the pressure got to me and i have been chewing beach nut ever since. My addiction is beyond stopping, now the days you want to go to work most places are tobacco free environment. I buy a box of chew for 46 bucks from the reservation. There is no magic pill to get off this garbage, it takes will power and when you are hooked they got ya by the balls. remember health insurance life insurance will make you spit to see that you do not use tobacco. Please rethink about it, go get a tattoo or something that could be a quick fix. I wake up in the morning first thing is brush my teeth and then get a chew, take my stomach pill, eat, chew all day, brush teeth again, go to bed same flipping thing each day. dentist bill is high, doctor bill is high and i know i can fix all of it until i quite chewing. Please listen to the old timers that are stuck now. if you think it will make you loose weight your crazy too. just makes me want to eat. good luck and please know you have a support group right here.

A lot of experience with tobacco on these pages, the advice has been top notch, it'd be wise to listen. Seriously, you are about to make a decision that will probably make a major impact on your life for quite some time if you decide to chew.

Tobacco, it's one of the nastiest drugs out there, legal or illegal.

If you start you WILL get addicted. It WILL be very difficult to quit. You WILL find that women can't stand it and once they find out you chew, they'll be gone. You WILL learn that it's a bad habit that you never should have started, and realize how much money you've spit on the ground. You WILL gain weight when you try and quit. I only chewed for a short time, but have lots of friends that chew, and they all regret it. The ones that quit, have gained weight and can't get it off.

A friends dad used to chew bar tobacco and never spit. He always swallowed the spit. When I say he used to chew bar tobacco, that's because he died from stomach cancer.

Bad decision if you follow through with your curosity.

I know where u can put this -right in the garbage! Dont do it, dont, dont, dont. If u are feeling pressure from your friends tell them to get fd. Man up make your own decision, dont do stupid stuff because everyone else is doing it, Oh to be turning 18 and knowing what I know now, how I wish! Listen to these prior post their is alot of years of experience telling u that this is a BIG MISTAKE. U need to be a one man wolfpack and do your own thing, forget what your friends are doing.

The other deal one must consider...is the cost.

Bad habits ain't cheap.

You will be "spit'n out" a new boat payment every month, consider that once.

A common point of feedback you see here is it's dam tough to quit, once you start.

The best way to quit, is not to start.

Your lucky to have that option on the plate.

Happy B-Day....I hope you decide well.

OK, here's the 411...

What's In Smokeless Tobacco

Here are a few of the ingredients found in smokeless tobacco.

•Polonium 210 (nuclear waste)

•Formaldehyde (embalming fluid)

•Cadmium (used in car batteries)

•Lead (nerve poison)

•Nitrosamines (cancer causing substances)

•Arsenic

•Cyanide

What Are The Risks?

•Short Term: Smokeless tobacco contains higher quantities of nicotine than most cigarettes. Nicotine is an addictive compound that leads to dependence in most users. It affects the cardiovascular system, increasing the heartbeat, constricting the blood vessels, and can increase blood pressure. It also increases the likelihood that the individual will become a smoker.

•Mid Term: After about two years, changes often occur in the regions of the mouth where tobacco is placed. These changes include staining of teeth, recession of gums, and in over 50% of users, the development of thickened white patches or leukoplakia in the oral lining. Two to four percent of these patches may develop into cancer.

•Long Term: Long term use leads to increased risk of oral cancer. Smokeless tobacco users have a four fold greater risk of oral cancer than non-users. After 50 years of use, this risk can be approximately 50 times greater. Smokeless tobacco is also linked to cancer of the esophagus and pancreas and may contribute to the cause of lung cancer.

Oral Cancer Incidence and Mortality

It is estimated that 28,260 new cases of oral cancer will be reported in the United States in 2004. These cancers occur more frequently in men than women, and are more common in people over the age of 50. In 2004, an estimated 7,230 deaths will occur from oral cancer.

Warning Signs

•a sore on the lip, gums, mouth which bleeds easily and doesn't heal

•a lump or thickening

•a reddish or whitish patch that persists

•difficulty in swallowing, chewing, or moving the tongue or jaws are often late changes

If you use it, chances are you will not see your 50th B-day

Yeah everyone pretty much said what's up with that.

Chicks don't dig dudes with a dip in their mouth. No matter how many times you watch Joe Dirt it just doesn't work like that.

++getting on the far side of tipsy and trying a dip. You will never want to do it again. It worked for me. I will never touch chew again in my life. The smell of it makes my stomach turn.

Instead do something that's not permanent damage...

Go to sevilles and blow a couple hundred bucks. Then spend another couple hundred bucks in a couple weeks for medication to get rid of whatever jumped ship there and walk away healthy.

Maybe go to and buy a bunch of fireworks in wisconi.

Get a tatoo.

There is so much other stuff to do that doesn't involve you getting hooked on something that will cost You a ton of money over your lifetime and possibly kill you.

IMO, It is a EPIC FAIL to try that as your first legal luxury. Sorry to sound so harsh but Its just Stoopid.

DON'T Start!! Use your hard earned cash for other healthier things. I kick myself everytime I think of the cash I spent on tobacco in 32 years of smoking. The things I COULD'VE done, been able to afford. Listen to these people...they've been there, done that! Don't make the same mistakes we did. One other thing I'd like to add, Print out this thread, put it away for safe keeping and in 40 or 50 years take it out and read it. Then, think of how your life would've been changed had you gone the other way. Phred52

All, the guys so far are right...I've had the habit for over 15 years now and please take our advice and stop before you start... wish I would have never started, it's extremely hard to quit. I've spent enough money over the last 15 years to purchase a new Chevy 4x4 pickup. Take a look at the price of a tin of Copenhagen right now and see if you want to get locked in to that payment plan...

gregg52, I had a little heart deal this past 4th of July up at the lake as well so you will not see me smoking again if we go on another sled run this winter. Well, maybe a little stoggy, but the cigs are gone for me as well. It is very hard indeed to quit. cry Everyone is trying to help with ideas but I started on my own one day and I need to just quit on my own! wink Everything is good to go with the old ticker since it was just a small one. So, I will be out on the sled and hopefully pulling out my own deer this fall. Good luck to others that need to try and do this! smile P.S hick727 lip cancer isn't any better. Girls hate kissing guys with a big hole in their lip! eek
