Love fishing alone. Something about having all that space in my 8x8 Northlander to my self. Just the other day I was woken up from a nice little nap when my buzzer on my rod went off and low and behold Mr.Wally was knocking at the door. grin Talk about a neat wake up call.

If I can get out fishing and someone can come along great, if not I have no problem fishing alone. It is nice when the fishing is slow to have someone along for conversation etc. though.

The majority of my fishing is done alone. Even when fishing with a group we all have our own porties so if it is cold enough to set up the houses it is like fishing alone anyways.

Dont get me wrong, I do enjoy fishing with others, winter or summer, it is fun to fish with someone else from time to time. Sitting in a wheel house or permy, heck even a suit case type is fun, but since I switched to a flip over it is mostly a one man deal.

Out on the ice in warm weather hole hopping, now that is a group activity that can be a real riot. wink

Ya that is very true. Open air warm weather ice fishing is fun. Nobody better take their eyes off their tip ups around me. All sorts of interesting stuff will come up on the hook when the flag pops. grin

Solis, serenity, time for contemplation, an opportunity to reset my inner clockworks...I fish alone often, it has kept me relatively sane over the years.

Often it is not about catching anything, it's the experience and time to get centered again.

In a busy world, time alone is a valuable thing.

I get 2 hours a day alone on my commute. to me time with my son's is a valuable thing. I try to get them to go with me every time (teenagers) frown when they don't want to go (girls) I still go. I have fished a lot alone and don't mind it, better than not fishing at all but I prefer to go with one of my son's...I feel like some of our best father to son talks have been in the boat or fish house waiting for the next bite. I wouldn't trade those times for any amount of money.

With work and a wife and 7 month old at home, I don't get much time with the guys so I generally prefer the comradery, nothing like a great day slamming hawgs and hookin a double or triple at the same time, and if the fishins no good at least you can shoot the breeze.. But there is definitely something to be said about a little time to sit and enjoy God's country in peace by yourself..

I would be happy to take someone along everytime. But I aint calling nobody. I have learned that calling people is a good way to hear what sad excuse someone is using now. Whenever people tell me they want to go I tell them, you want to go you got my number. I will never call you.

both have their place in my life.

I love a day in the boat with friends. Smack talking, laughing at the other guy's birds nest, I caught mor/bigger fish than you and "your momma" jokes and all make for a great day.

but, an evening in my little tinny listening to the line whizz past my thumb as I cast is the most relaxing thing I can think of.

I fish 1 of 3 ways:

Alone - Usually only fish alone when ice fishing. I like it because success relies fully on ME and it is very satisfying (good ego booster haha). I move around more when I'm alone because if the fish aren't there, I have no one else to keep me from being bored so I need to move and find some fish. I always take the last day or half day of a laker trip to leave our group of 6-8 and jump around fishing spots by myself.

With friends/dad who know how to fish - Usually the highest success rate. 2 good fisherman heads are better than 1 and we can be much more efficient at searching new spots than I am by myself. It's nice to compare strategies with others about where and how we are going to get on the fish.

With friends who DO NOT know how to fish - Least successful of the 3 because it's about just getting out with good friends. Spend most of the time just telling stories and messing around and definitely move around a lot less.

This is the same thing I do in the summer. My friends know that I fish after work every monday, wednesday, and thursday. I tell them I won't call and ask them. They know I'm going so call me and if there's room in my boat then they're more than welcome.

Went fishing alone yesterday. Had a blast.

But darnit, my phone went dead and then I caught my first ever silver pike and couldn't get a pic. Wasn't about to eat such a rare fish, so into the lake he went.

Hopefully he gets bigger and I catch him again.

I think true fishing addicts, like those of us who spend countless hours on this HSOforum, are few in numbers and far apart and consequently wind up fishing alone frequently, versus not fishing at all cuz our close friends don't want to as often as we need to

  • Your Responses - Share & Have Fun :)

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
