First time out in the boat with my current lab was a fun one.

Had the Auto Pilot electric down while trolling for eyes.

The boat stopped and then smoke poured out of the base of the electric motor. What The?

Darn dog chewed through the cord to the remote control which in turn fried the circuit board on the motor. Dog gone it!

Here are my mutts... they used to chase bobbers when cast, and get all excited when a fish is caught... but not at nearly 10 years old they pretty much are just along for the ride smile

And they like ice fishing too smile

The black one has been hooked twice from people leaving their ice fishign rods sitting on buckets with raps hanging down... Good thing she is pretty easy going about having them taken out wink

I take my dog when I'm fishing by myself. Even though she is well behaved she stays home when I have partner. I learned a long time ago that not everyone thinks my dog is as great company as I do. I also learned that ice fishing is no place for a dog unless you want to extracts hooks out of them and spend your time untangling lines.

Mine makes just about every trip. Winter or summer. If he's not comparing his profile to walleyes he's sleeping. He's good in the boat unless your on nine mile flat in the middle of Milli Lacs and he has to do his buisness right as the hot bite should be starting. I will only bring him to the smaller lakes now.

Yeppers,

He sure is.

He is a little older so he is more mellow.

You can get him wound up and running but for the most part he just likes to hang out.

It is a shame what the breeders do to white boxers.

They are wonderful dogs!!!

That is an awesome pic of your pup!!

I always take my 12 year old golden sally out if I am fishing from the boat, or fishing for anything other than stream fishing for trout/steelhead. she lays in the boat and is generaly un interested in anything with the fish, but she loves to go. I have been taking her out since a pup. She LOVES icefishing. she will sit in the tub of my otter if Im in the house or she will just romp around in the snow if I'm hole hopping. I have never had a problem with hooks. She seems to avoid them pretty well. Our cat however once thought a fuzzy grub looked yummy. a quick snip with a wire cutter took care of that.

mainbutter, I take my girl Lab along every chance I can. One precaution... a 'retriever' is gonna retrieve, especially a young one in training. Just something to consider. I'll now admit, I was LOL inside, when it happened, but I needed to be firm 'in face', then. I casted out a bobber and leech and I heard KERSPLASH!!!! You gotta admit, watching a 6 month old pup FLY overboard to retrieve a bobber is danged FUNNY!!! They DO eventually learn with age, it's when they don't even wake up to 'welcome' the new arrival to the boat or fish house that's sad, cause you know time's running out. Get yourself a waterdog, take 'it' with you and make 'it' your BEST buddy! A dog has the IQ of a 3 year old child, so be patient, treat it AS a child and you WILL be rewarded. I am now with my 4th Lab, I miss each of the personalities of the past 3 but this yellow girl I have now is 'setting the bar' even higher! Get a dog and ENJOY!! Work with 'it' so it understands what's permitted and what's not. You won't be sorry! And DON'T forget to make lots of memories/ take LOTS OF PICTURES!!!! Phred52

Well, my "pup" (9 yrs) Holli hasn't gone fishing a ton with me but she really gets pumped for it. Shes not much of a water dog as shes a Border Collie/Lab mix but shes a darn good grouse/pheasant hunter. Anyway, she gets really excited to see a fish get pulled in. I got her some boots this summer since shes got really furry paws and gets ice in between the toes, so hopefully she will be with ice fishing a bunch this year. She was pretty much a spaz in the boat till the last couple years. Now that she has gotten a bit older she knows that its cool to chill out a bit. She still gets pumped when a fish is on or she sees the bobber go under. gringringrin DOGS ARE AWESOME!

Here she is sticking her tongue out at me at the landing, so impatient!!!

In the boat waiting for a walleye to plop in for inspection. She has to see every fish that comes into the boat otherwise she gets kinda mad. When there is fish on a stringer she gaurds them and makes sure they don't get away. grin
