HSO Deer Photo's

Recommended Posts

My son took his 1st antlered deer on opening day in SE MN.

jkcmj I am really happy for your son and don't want to down play how important this moment is for you and him. But please say that he was wearing a little more then just a small blaze vest out when hunting? I think he needs a little more to have on 50%. At least get him a blaze hat. Not trying to be the woods cop, just want him to be around to get a few more like that one! smile

Also, you may not hunt or trap during any open season where deer may be taken by firearms (including special hunts, early antlerless, youth seasons, and muzzleloader) under applicable laws and ordinances unless the visible portion of your cap and outer clothing above the waist, excluding

sleeves and gloves, is blaze orange. Red is not a legal color, except for those who qualify under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993.

Blaze orange includes a camouflage pattern of at least 50 percent blaze orange within each square foot.

Thats from the Regs. Page 24-25. Vest is totally legal as long as it is totally Orange.

I wear a vest like that when bow hunting during gun season, but only when I hunt certain spots where I know there isn't anyone else around, otherwise I wear my full blaze orange outfit. One can never be to safe.

He's not a big hat wearer. In all honesty, I don't see any issue with the amount of blaze he is wearing. I don't gun hunt public lands, so on our farm, we all know where each other are going to be. Even in full blaze, in the thick woods, you would have issues seeing a blaze orange clad clown 40 yards off, so the value of blaze in that environment is marginal at best.

Two "brown" arms sticking out behind a tree doesn't seem a little bit of a danger to you? A lot of shootings happen in the same party. Just saying! eek

Leave the kid alone he was wearing Blaze orange and maybe he took his hat off for the picture! Why do people feel the need to be SUCH D I N K S about stupid stuff. If you are shooting at arms you need to stay home!!! Why do people need to rain on someone elses parade!! It may not be how you do it but it is legal so knock it!!

We do need to look out for one another, true, but the nitpicking gets a little bit old. I'm sure it makes some people second guess if they way to post on here, or why they did if they are just going to get criticized. Lets just keep the comments positive and leave speculation about how someone shot or what they were wearing off this thread.

I swear that it seams some people are looking for something to criticize.

Not only that but lets teach our kids to obey the Hunting Laws.

Hunter Orange Requirement

I was wondering if you were there when I shot. Sorry about the heart attack!

I was surprised, but the deer I shot looks to be a 2.5 year old from the tooth wear. Body wasn't too huge either. I am sending the teeth in to be sure though.

There is a nice younger 8 pointer some in our group saw saturday. That a couple yearlings were the only ones I had on camera. Hoping to get my daughter back on stand this weekend for a shot at that one. A fat doe would be good too.

If you can, please send the tcam shots of the one I killed.

May take some work, but my friend has them saved on his computer, the 1 you shot, was Halloween night he was making a ground scrape infront of my camera over riding the little bucks scrapes. I think I have a plan, I'll get you that t-cam pic, my buddy is likely out hunting but I'll have him send it to me when he can, my guess was 2.5 also, the body was lackin a bit but he put good effort into his rack. My uncles meaning the leaf river bottom, they aren't seeing squat, I hope area 240 has another mild winter because I've been observing wintering herds go way way way down in numbers to where some areas are extinct as wintering grounds now. Can't assume somehow next fall these decent deer numbers we used to have will reappear magically. Oh well, I'll be back at it tomorrow-Sunday, good luck the rest of the way!

Alright well the good dead has been done and a reminder about wearing a blaze hat has been noted. Lets move on and keep this on about the pictures of the hunt. Keep them coming. I hopefully will have one on here next week. Nice 5X5 on a trail cam has might hope up.
