What flasher is everyone using?

It is funny how there is a lot of "critiques" of this post and know where in the first message did i ever state what i should buy, or which one is the best. Last season i did a study with the same questions to see how the general population on here thought about this hot topic. Well i did not get enough honest answers to really form a good idea this year yet. I did get a lot of junk though. Thanks.

Its a Chevy vs Ford debate, so you are going to get those type of answers.

Plus this topic has been discussed to death. Just do a search on the forum.

Nothing personal.

I thought many answered some questions very well and honestly.

SP180. First of all you started this post as a question of what people used and why. I think a lot of people gave you some good feed back on why they made their hard thought out chooses when they bought. Maybe you should start this post over again once you decide what type of fishing you do, and then state it as. "I fish for this, what type of flasher would work best for this species. You never defined what type of fishing you do or gave anyone anything to help you with. Just asked their opinions which you have gotten and now called junk! frown

So you were intentionally trying to stir things up then? Is that what you're saying??

leech and munchy,

You might be right in the fact that i could have asked the question different, but my goal was not to lead this on in any direction. I laugh at all the discussions that we do regarding this subject. I dont think the type of fishing really makes that much difference as does the allegiance to the brand we use. (Marcum x 2). We have so many opinions that i did this last year and found a very interesting trend. This year the trend is quite different. I posted this same question on another forum and did not receive as many "opinionated" responses. So i will acknowledge the questions may not have been worded right, but it still does not require all the negativity towards what was asked. I guess if people are sick of the questions, dont respond. Later today i will try and get all the data sifted through and see what kind of trend this is compared to last year. sorry this inflamed so many people. This sight is supposed to be fun and informative regardless of how many times some one poses the same old questions as years passed.

What flasher are you currently using?

Have you used a different brand?

If so, why did you switch?

Are you happy with the one you are using?

If you had the choice, would you upgrade this year?

Seems to me everyone replied just as you asked.

Thread looked civil to me till you came back and replied. I get the feeling the tread didn't go south as you were hopping it would, rather it took on as being as somewhat useful for the folks considering purchasing a flasher.

If you ask the same question next Fall I would hope that there is another Brand X flasher that could compete with what we have available to us now. That "TREND" is a plus of us.

Maybe i over reacted to what i was reading early on. It only takes a few comments to get ones blood boiling. Anyway, here is the results for anyone that cares.

As some have stated this topic tends to start a lot of “chevy vs. ford” conversations. But here is the data compiled from two forums with the same questions. Last year I did an informal study to see what is really going on in these forums regarding this discussion. Here is what I have complied. Now I know there are a lot of flaws in this study, but it does produce a different light into the “chevy vs. ford” discussions that go on here. And maybe, just maybe this will help new members shed some light on their search for the best product.

66 total responses that gave any useable data.

46% are Vexilar users

39% are Marcum users

15% are Hummingbird users

Of the 19 who switched brands:

54% Vexilar to Marcum

5% Marcum to Vexilar

26% Vexilar to Hummingbird

10% Marcum to Hummingbird

5% Hummingbird to Marcum

Last years results were in favor of Marcum 60% to 40% Vexilar. This year there has been a new addition to the fold Hummingbird. You can see the strong allegiance to Vexilar with close to the same % as last year. Hummingbird has really sparked a lot of interest from the group this year. I suspect that Marcum is suffering a little from the shakeup of owner ship. I personally use the Marcum and love the product. As many have stated the best unit is the one you like. I don’t think anyone person can say that there product is the best with any scientific validity. We all have our opinions, but that is about it. Any one that is looking for a flasher should just pick one up that fits their budget, looks good to them, appeals to their needs. If you choose to change companies later on I bet you can sell your old unit for a good price and step up to the other unit.

Sp180, I don't have a problem with starting the same old posts up each year as there are always new people to the site and sport and they may want to hear what all the old timers think about some of the equipment we have all use and have hashed to death. I just think your response put people off a bit.

Had an OLD Lowrance unit that was pretty much jimmy-rigged as an ice unit, have since upgraded to a LX-1, and am in love with it, if I had a chance I would definately go for an LX-5, but a hummingbird 55 would be a serious contender too...mmmm, if I only had a money tree...
