What flasher is everyone using?

The Humminbirds seem to work the best for interference from other units from what I have seen. I have used all three major brands and the Bird and MarCum are at the top for me.

They will all get the job done. I really like the target seperation of the MarCum and I love the colors and digital display on the Birds.

I've got an LX3, and have been happy when it is working. Sounds like those issues are a thing of the past. I bought my Dad a Lowrance x67 Ice Machine that has been pretty fun to fish with. Plus, he uses it in summer by clamping the transducer to the trolling motor with a couple of hose clamps, and mounts the display at the bow with the trolling motor controls. That is pretty slick.

If I were to buy new, I'd seriously look between an LX5 and a 'bird 45 or 55.

I have had the Vex FL-8, FL-18, MarCum LX-3 and now the LX-5.

I will keep the LX-5 for open water and ice fishing.

Never have had a problem on the ice or in the boat.

Good luck with your purchase. New toys are always fun!!!

I started with Vexilar, moved to Marcum and a LX3-tc and really liked it. Then I upgraded to the LX5 and really really liked it. The super fine line is incredible for picking out your fish in a stacked situation and is second to none in my mind. Interferance has not been an issue with Vex or Marcum in any of my many trips. I then had the opportunity last year to fish with the new Humminbird Line and really like some features. The multiple colors and digital display of depth on the 55 sold the show for me and I now have added the new Bird 55 to my arsenol! I have nothing against Vexilar other than preferance and features I find help me out best by using the Marcum and Humminbird. But to each thier own, I have Marcum and now a new Humminbird Ice 55.

My first flasher was a FL8 and it served me well. At that time there weren't any other players. Then shortly after MarCum came along. I jumped ship so fast from the FL8(sold it) and boarded the LX3 boat that I'd didn't even get my feet wet.

Loved the LX3 then upgraded to a LX5(sold the LX3).

One day Jr figures he needed a flasher and I thought so too since he used mine when we went out together. Got a good deal on a FL18 and thought what the heck. Its been a fine flasher and gets the job done. Best part was that we had two contenders for the ice fishermen as far as flashers go.

Then along comes Lowrance and Showdown with an ice model. I'll pass thank you as I feel they are not an upgrade to what I have.

For a long time I didn't think much about the Birds.

Boy have they come a long way resently for the open water and ice fishermen. I'll be giving the Humminbird Ice 55 a go this winter.

So from the days of Vex only to now having 4 companies biding for a piece of the pie, things only get better for us fisherman.

Prices go down and the technology goes up.

I have a flasher and love it. I will not tell you what make/model it is. I will say it is better then every other one you could possibly buy or own. Ice fishing with a flasher rules!

Movie Quote from Full Metal Jacket (1987):

This is my flasher. There are many like it but

this one is mine. My flasher is my best friend. It is my life. I must

master it as I must master my life. Without me, my flasher is

useless. Without my flasher I am useless.

PS - I own a Vex FL18 and dig it. I'm sure new ones are neater. My only upgrade plan is a dual beam that I wish I would have paid for when I got this thing new 3 years ago.

PS#2 - I like to joke some

Never having used a flasher before, I bought the Ice45 last year at first ice. I had problems with it being able to pick up small lures and the target definition/separation was much poorer than videos I had seen. I returned the unit and ended up getting the older version Marcum VX-1 for under $200 and was much, much happier. Although the features on the 45 were nice, I found them unnecessary for 99% of my fishing. I see no reason to upgrade unless I come across a killer deal or win a different unit or something.
