SkunkedAgain
I can't believe that nobody is talking about the Meterbratwurst at Gastof's. I've had it twice and it is amazing. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge burger guy but an entire meter of sausage on a mattress of sauerkraut?!?! Incredible! It sounds like this show is on tonight. I'll have to look around on the channel guide for it.
Coach Dog
Oh yeah, their bratwurst is phenomenal! I wonder if he's going to drink beer out of the glass boot. Looking forward to the show tonight.

hoggs222
I used to go to Matt's for lunch once in a while. Those burgers are like crack! As far as Gasthof Zur Gemutlicheit, I've only eaten there one time. It was for German class.Drinking....I used to go there all the time! Das Boot, Snuffboards and apple shots. Super fun crowd. How can you go wrong with a German guy wearing a hat with foam boobs on it?
KTapper
I'm watching the show right now! and I'm getting hungry!
nofishfisherman
Nothing beats a Matt's Juicy Lucy!!!!From the web site:Minneapolis -- Premieres March 25 at 10 E/P* Matt's Bar* Brasa* 5-8 Club* Challenge: The Meterbratwurst at Gasthof zur Gemutlichkeit. Adam Richman must finish this meter of grilled German Bratwurst served with sauerkraut. Brasa is an exceptional restaurant as well. Nothing like the other places they are featuring. The meat is rotissere, you pick your meat and then you pick your sides. The corn cakes are really good as well as the black eyed peas. If its your birthday you get a free piece of cake. Just a hint, they don't ask for proof that its your b-day. I plan on having a couple more birthdays yet this year.
fishwater
Nothing beats a Matt's Juicy Lucy!!!! I think Matt's are overcooked too often. I prefer Adrian's, 5-8 and Groveland taps version. Lots of places to get your inner cheese fix in the Metro
PierBridge
Quote:I think Matt's are overcooked too often I think thats a fair point and I agree. I have noticed they error on the side of caution and cook them throughly. I have had a few under cooked Burgers at 5-8 that has soured me a bit with them.I can't believe I haven't eaten at Groveland Tap yet I always hear good things about them. I have been getting into both Highland and Longfellow Grills of late.
goblueM
IMO the Tap was way better a couple years ago, the blue plate dinner club has changed them recently. smaller burgers, the fries are worse and prices went up. still a great place but kinda stopped going there in favor of the Blue Door
chaffmj
I quit going to the Tap because its gotten to crowded. I live only a couple of blocks away and I have not been there since last fall! The same thing has happened to the Nook. Unless you go there at an off hour you have to wait. The Blue Door also seems to be packed but that is so small it doesn't take much. My kid started working at Shamrocks on W7TH that is run by the owners of the Nook so I'll have to see how the burgers are.
SkunkedAgain
I've made quite a few juicy lucy's, and the trick is to cook it enough that the cheese melts but not too much to overcook the burger. Matt's intentionally overcooks their burgers. Since I'm happy with melted cheese and don't need the hot-magma-squirting cheese, I cook mine a little less. Sandmannd
Matt's is unbelievable. They are close to the children's Hospital in MPS so when I'm working over there I try to make it down there.
gopher_nation
For me, The Nook has the best Juicy Lucy. For that matter all their burgers are great. I have also successfully completed their Nookie Challenge and proudly wear the T-shirt. I really like that while you are waiting to sit you can catch a Cretin Durham Hall baseball game right across the street through the window on the right day. deerminator
Somewhat on topic. The meter of bratwurst at Gasthof's while wonderful is not that hard to eat if you have an appetite. It's more like a breakfast sausage in thickness versus a typical bratwurst. Still, its good eatin and you leave very full.
Sutty
I was at the tap a couple weeks back and had the juicy lucy with jalepeno's and pepper jack cheese. It was pretty good but I didn't think it was as good as Matts
SunneyeDay
I really wish I wouldn't have stumbled onto this thread. As a former South Minneapolis kid, I am now hungry, and the only cure is the currently unattainable Jucy Lucy (that is the Matt's spelling, right?). Grew up near Nokomis, but I will always go to Matt's over the closer 5-8. I was horribly disappointed when Man vs. Food dude failed to say Matt's was the better Jucy Lucy. 5-8 club is for grandma and Sunday after mass- Matt's is for Jucy Lucy's. Oh, and maybe a beer (or three).
dirtking
I would say I am a fan of Matt's.Sak's in Vadnais - across from Tousley ford. They have a pretty good one.
PierBridge
Well said Sunnyday! What ever happened to thee best Burger joint around......The Golden Nugget in Minnetonka? I know they closed up the original location but didn't they re-open at another location? The Mushroom swiss Burger is a must, Great Burgers! No frozen Burgers always served fresh is there motto I do Believe.
sparkyaber
I had a Jucy Lucy at the T-Box in Ham Lake, and it was wonderful. The guy who owns T-box also owns the meat market next door. Fresh cow + cheese = winner. If any one gets up north on 65, give it a try. (65 and Andover Blvd) It is located in a strip mall and looks like a sports bar, but when you get inside is quaint with wonderful food, nice wine selection, and a beer selection that is as long as my arm. Many micro and pico brews on tap and in a bottle. If you are looking for a light american lager, I think they have only one, which is a nice change from the norm. Nothing worse than going into a bar and asking what is on tap: "mgd, miller lite, mich light, bud light, bud." Sorry this strayed.
Bubbadust
My wife took me to the Nook on Father's Day for dinner after seeing it featured on "Diners, Drive-In's, and Dives" with Guy Fieri. After waiting an hour outside in the rain, the wait was well worth it! It was my first Juicy Lucy and I was definitely not disappointed!
